PostHeaderIcon You Can Get a Used Alfa Romeo 4C for Dirt Cheap Right Now

It should come as no surprise that we’re huge fans of the Alfa Romeo 4C. Making its formal debut in 2013, the 4C was the first mass-production model Alfa offered to the U.S. market in nearly two decades. And what a comeback – this thing offers low-weight, mid-engine, carbon-intensive thrills, plus jaw-dropping Italian styling, all without the high-entry price of a traditional supercar. Now, according to a recent report from Autotrader, you can find this enthusiast’s wet dream on the used market for criminally low prices.

PostHeaderIcon Mole Costruzione Artigianale Almas

Mole Costruzione Artigianale Almas oozes Italian style. It leaves a little tricolored puddle wherever it sits. It’s currently just a design study by Mole, the company that you may remember from its custom Alfa Romeo 4C project called Alfa Romeo Mole Costruzione Artigianale 001.

Unlike that Alfa Romeo 4C-based project, though, the Mole Almas isn’t built on another car’s underpinnings – it’s bespoke GT car with its own platform and this has given designers the freedom to make it look even more extreme. Its exterior design and styling certainly, the work of Umberto Palermo and Paolo Scudieri, make it stand out and the result is quintessentially Italian and very sculptural – it very successfully borrows design elements from classic Alfa Romeo and Maserati models, but everything is neatly integrated and the result is very visually cohesive.

Both its chassis and body are made from carbon fiber in order to keep weight down. We don’t know how much it weighs, or any technical facts for that matter, but we may learn more after it debuts at the 2019 Geneva motor show.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia

Introduced in 2013 as the company’s first true-blue sports car in decades, the Alfa Romeo 4C soldiered on into 2019 with almost no upgrades. At the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, the Italian company launched the 4C Spider Italia, a limited-edition roadster with a handful of extra features. Although it doesn’t stray far from the regular model, it confirms that the 4C Spider will remain in production for the 2020 model year.

With the Coupe discontinued at the end of 2018, the Spider remains in dealerships for at least one more year, but the Italia is far from special. Finished in an exclusive paint and fitted with custom graphics and badges, it’s just a poor attempt to keep this bare-bones sports car appealing among newer products. Is it worth getting one? Let’s find out below.

PostHeaderIcon The 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia is Good News, Bad News at the Same Time

If you’re a fan of performance cars, the 2019 Chicago Auto Show must be really boring to you. Packed with trucks and special-edition SUVs, you have to dig deep to find some cool sports car in there, and most of them are actually classics. There is an exception worth checking out though: the 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia.

A limited-series, special edition version of the familiar roadster, the 4C Spider Italia comes with good and bad news for both Alfa Romeo and sports car enthusiasts.

PostHeaderIcon The 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia Is the Best-Looking Debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, But Is It Too Little Too Late?

First introduced way back in 2013, the 4C was the first mass-produced Alfa Romeo vehicle for the North American market in the 21st century. And what a comeback – this thing ticks all the boxes when it comes to driving nirvana. Made from carbon fiber and aluminum, the 4C is lightweight, while the exterior dimensions are compact, which combine with the mid-engine drivetrain package to make for some seriously impressive driving dynamics. We love it, but in the six years since its debut, not much has changed, and sales have taken a hit. Now, Alfa is offering a special edition at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show that’s leaving us wondering – is it too little too late?

PostHeaderIcon 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia is a final attempt from Alfa to stay relevant

Alfa Romeo showed up at the Chicago Auto Show with the 4C Spider Italia Edition. It’s the same 4C Alfa’s been selling in the U.S. for almost half a decade already, but the novelty is you can now have it in this nice Misano Blue Metallic paint job if you pay $5,000 more on top of the $1,595 destination tax.

The Alfa Romeo 4C was the second car Alfa Romeo brought Stateside after selling almost 100 of its wonderful 8C sports car in both coupe and roadster guise. The 4C is a much more compact version but, in true Alfa tradition, it looks really well and it drives well too. The issue is that the Italians haven’t really been all that interested in trying to refresh the car and, now, the 4C is a pretty but overpriced car that desperately needs a replacement worth of sharing the garage with the Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C NIVOLA by Ugur Sahin Design

The reinvention of old shapes is somehow mystically exhilarating and reinvigorating. Especially if done properly as is the case with the 4C Nivola. Ugur Sahin Design is one of those life bearers, and its latest project is called the Alfa Romeo 4C Nivola. A car that will blossom and spiritually reimagine the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. And that was, for many, the most beautiful Alfa Romeo of all time.

After its photos surfaced on the Internet, the Alfa Romeo 4C Nivola bathed us all with its charm, historical links with the 33 Stradale (I almost wrote canonical links, because the Alfa Romeo story is more like a movie), and classic Italian glamour.

Yet, the designer behind this work of art, Ugur Sahin, is from Turkey, with the headquarters of his studio located in the Netherlands. That’s where he worked on the 4C Nivola design. It’s been in the works since he’d seen the 33 Stradale at Pebble Beach last year.

This car will not leave you listless, but packed with emotion. At least it did just that for me. I contacted Ugur Sahin, and he was more than straightforward with his answers. This is what I uncovered about the stunning Alfa Romeo 4C Nivola.

PostHeaderIcon 10 Sports Cars with the Best MPG

Fuel efficiency may not be the prime concern when looking to purchase a sports car, but these days the two don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Long gone are the days when you had to sacrifice pretty much everything in order to drive a fun car that put a smile on your face – these days you can have your sporty cake and also eat it, and these are the cars you can do it in. All models below blend twisty road enjoyment with some manner of fuel-sipping tech on top of their improved practicality and day-to-day usability compared to equivalent models of decades past.decades past.

PostHeaderIcon Cheap Midship Thrills: 5 Attainable Mid-Engined Cars from 2018

Having the engine in the middle or as close to the center of the car as possible is deemed ideal in order to have even weight distribution between the two axles. But over the years, the configuration has mostly been reserved for expensive exotics unattainable by only the wealthiest enthusiasts. That’s why cheaper cars that have adopted the configuration have always stood out and usually attract some manner of cult following.

This article focuses on midship cars which you can buy right now without having to factor in the sale of an organ or anything involving a Ponzi scheme and wearing a fake mustache. Rest assured you can get attainable mid-engined kicks these days in the cars posted after the jump (in ascending price order), but don’t go thinking they’re cheap; they’re not.

PostHeaderIcon The 10 Most Beautiful Cars Available Today

It’s true that there is subjectivity in beauty, but in the world of automobiles, that’s less likely to manifest itself because the cream always rises to the top. The most beautiful cars today don’t need to let the world know they’re beautiful. They just are. That’s why when we’re discussing which of today’s cars look the best, the same models find their way into the conversation. There will be some debates, sure, but for the most part, those debates typically are about determining if a car looks awesome or super awesome. Compiling a list of the ten most beautiful cars today was difficult because there were too many options to consider. In the end, I got through my list of 10 models that can take my money just by looking at them.

PostHeaderIcon Prepare to Say Goodbye to the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe

You think pretty looks are enough to keep a model alive? Ask Alfa Romeo that, and you’ll get a loud, resounding ’No’! Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO, Sergio Marchionne, has confirmed to Autocar that the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé’s future in the U.S. is in question; however, the 4C Spider will continue to live on. Now, was this because of Alfa Romeo’s stubbornness to not give customers what they want, or was it just an under-par car?

PostHeaderIcon 6 Sports Cars Everyone Should Drive at Least Once in Their Lives

Suppose you were given a choice to pick six sports cars to take out for a spin, which models would you choose? Some of you might choose from a list made entirely out of hypercars. Some of you might go for all the all-muscle types. Some of you might even choose to drive one automaker’s entire catalog. Everyone’s taste for sports cars is different, which is why in figuring out my suggestions for the six sports cars everyone should drive at least once in their lives, I was more varied in my choices. I put in a hypercar, a track car, a muscle car, a Japanese monster, and a small Italian sports car that’s going to blow you away. Some of you might have different choices, and that’s fine. What’s important is that, at the end of the day, we all get to experience the cars we love, even if it’s just for a day.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo is Ticking our Senses With Plans to Build a 700-Horsepower 8C

FCA has confirmed plans to bring back the Alfa-Romeo 8C, this time with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, mid-engine configuration, electric front axle, and at least 700 horsepower.

PostHeaderIcon Wallpaper of the Day: 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider came in 2016 to pair the nimbleness and spunkiness of the 4C Coupe with the benefit of unlimited headroom. Of course, it didn’t come with its flaws, which included a weight gain of some 130 pounds thanks to structure changes required to keep the car structurally sound. It got its own look around back and even came complete with an elevated, carbon fiber roll bar behind the seats. It’s powered by a 1.75-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque – enough to get it to 60 mph in less than five seconds on the way to a top speed of 130 mph. Those are the fastest figures in the world, but they are fast enough for a car this size. Either way, it’s a sexy little beast, and we find it as the perfect addition to our Wallpaper of the Day Collection. PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione

Five years since its introduction, the Alfa Romeo 4C is still alive and kicking. The sports car even got a prime placement at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show courtesy of a pair of special edition models, one of which is called the Alfa Romeo 4C Competizione. The special edition 4C is the recipient of model-specific styling cues that separate it from its standard counterparts. By virtue of its status, only 108 units of the 4C Competizione will be available to the public.

Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione Exterior

2018 Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione - image 771823
“The special edition 4C gets plenty of styling upgrades, none more striking than its Vesuvius Grey exterior paint finish and the dual racing stripes that run the length of the car”

For the most part, the Alfa Romeo 4C’s styling hasn’t changed much since it was introduced in 2013. That isn’t much of an issue because the 4C remains one of the most attractive sports cars on the market today. That said, major updates are reportedly in store for the sports car this year so that’s something we can all look forward to.

In the meantime, the Alfa Romeo 4C Competizione — and the 4C Italia, for that matter — gets our attention. The special edition 4C gets plenty of styling upgrades, none more striking than its Vesuvius Grey exterior paint finish and the dual racing stripes that run the length of the car. I didn’t think racing stripes would look good on the 4C and yet, here I am, drooling over the Competizione special edition. The upgrades don’t end there, either.

Thanks to its status, the 4C Competition also gets plenty of premium equipment that comes standard with the model. The carbon fiber roof is now standard. Same thing with the rear spoiler, which also happens to be made from carbon fiber goodness. The mirror caps are also made from carbon fiber, as are the side air vents and the headlight moldings.

The 4C Competizione’s exterior upgrades conclude with a carbon-trimmed Akrapovich exhaust, red brake calipers, and a new set of dark-finish, five-spoke wheels that measure 18 inches in the front and 19 inches at the back.

Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione Interior

Inside, you’ll be treated with a heavy dose of leather covering most of the cabin surface. Microfiber seats have also been added and, to make sure that everybody knows that this car is limited, the obligatory numbered badge and aluminum “Competition” plaque can be seen on the central tunnel.

Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione Performance

2018 Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione - image 771822
“The 4C is still capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds before peaking at a top speed of 160 mph.”

Unfortunately, neither the 4C Competition nor the 4C Italia benefit from any engine upgrades. That means that both special edition models still get the same 1.75-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder unit that pumps out 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Not that we’re complaining because as it is, the 4C is still capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds before peaking at a top speed of 160 mph.

Combine that ability with its special edition styling, and you can see why heads are turning at the sight of the 4C Competition in Geneva.

Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé Competizione Availability

Alfa Romeo has yet to announce when the special edition 4C will hit the market, but given its limited numbers — only 108 will be available — don’t expect the model to stay on the market long.

PostHeaderIcon Don’t Expect to See an Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio Anytime Soon

The Alfa Romeo 4C has had a turbulent life. It started on a high note when it was introduced in 2013. But since then, the 4C has had an up-and-down existence. Some people swore by its looks and handling, while others were dismayed by its lack of over-the-top power. Five years later, the 4C remains a resilient presence in its segment. Sales have tapered off, but Alfa has no plans of discontinuing the model. On the other hand, don’t expect it to get stamped with the company’s Quadrifoglio badge, either. The Alfa Romeo 4C will remain as it is, though a possible update is in the cards soon.

Don't Expect to See an Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio Anytime Soon - image 556824
“The Alfa Romeo 4C isn’t going to get a Quadrifoglio version because the sports coupe doesn’t need on”

Pieter Hogeveen, Director of Alfa Romeo North America, recently spoke with GTSpirit to talk about the state of the 4C. According to Hogeveen, the Alfa Romeo 4C isn’t going to get a Quadrifoglio version because the sports coupe doesn’t need one. “It stands on its own as a performance car, so there’s really no need to Quadrifoglio-ize it”, he said. “It’s already the best in its class.”

I admire Hogenveen’s faith in the 4C, but I wouldn’t go out on a limb and call it the “best in its class.” It’s a worthy contender for that title, but it does belong in a segment that also includes a standout like the Porsche Cayman and an up-and-coming contender in the form of the Alpine A110. The latter, in fact, is getting all sorts of positive reviews. It’s also scheduled to hit the market this year, so that’s one more 4C rival Alfa Romeo needs to consider.

That’s not to say that the 4C is going to get buried because Alfa does have big plans for it in the future. Hogeveen just isn’t revealing anything to satisfy our curiosities. “Beyond that, I’m not at liberty to say,” he added.

Don't Expect to See an Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio Anytime Soon - image 556801
“The 4C Quadrifoglio is out of the question, but some meaningful updates are still coming”

So if you were looking forward to an Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio, don’t expect to see one anytime soon. There is that possibility that Hogeveen is playing coy and giving us a taste of misdirection, but the more likely scenario is that he’s telling the truth. The 4C Quadrifoglio is out of the question, but some meaningful updates are still coming. His sentiment was echoed last month by the company’s engineering boss, Roberto Fedeli, who told Autocar that Alfa wants to turn the 4C into a “proper sports car that can serve as one of the company’s halo models.”

So that’s something that we can look forward to. The Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio appears to be out of the cards, but if the scheduled update lives up to our expectations, it may not need a QV badge at all.

PostHeaderIcon Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs

In case you’ve been living under a rock (or maybe you’re just in denial?), demand for crossovers and SUVs continues to consume just about every automotive segment imaginable. Even the well-established performance marques are susceptible to the siren song of profitable jacked-up suspension plus tons of practical rear cargo room, with models like the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus upending decades of sports car traditions. But what if we took it a step further? What if we gave eight iconic sports cars the SUV treatment? Welp, Jennings Motor Group did exactly that with the following renderings.

Continue reading for the full story.

2017 Ford Mustang SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753773

No matter the market, the Ford Mustang is undoubtedly considered ‘Merica’s sports car. And, as sales numbers will prove, ‘Merica also loves its SUVs. So then – what if you took the styling of the new sixth-generation pony car and grafted it to the front end of a tall-bodied SUV? Sounds like a red, white, and blue dream come true, right? Just make sure to tick the V-8 option under the hood – no four-banger needed here, thank you very much.

Alfa Romeo 4C SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753767

The Alfa Romeo 4C is classic sports car stuff – small, lightweight, excellent weight distribution, and smile-making handling chops. It’s also quite the looker, if you ask us. But that’s a formula we wouldn’t mind seeing in other segments as well, including SUVs. As such, this Italian beauty might have us clamoring for more, even with hotness like the Alfa Stelvio already out and about. We’re thinking a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder under the hood, plus a six-speed dual-clutch auto box to drive the rear wheels.

McLaren 720S SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753768

To help broaden its appeal beyond the unobtanium hypercars that make up the top of its lineup, McLaren also offers a variety of “entry-level” supercars with the Sports Series, which includes models like the 570 and 540. Then there’s the mid-grade Super Series, which bridges the gap to the top dog Ultimate Series and P1, thanks to the still-obscenely-quick 720. Of course, it’s all in the name of funding McLaren’s racing efforts, which means a 720S SUV might pay a few bills in case Fernando Alongo’s ride goes pop (again). We would expect V-8 power and surprisingly good aero bits for this one.

BMW i8 SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753770

We love the BMW i8 for a variety of reasons. Not only is it quick, but its got tons of tech under the skin. Carbon fiber everything plus hybrid motivation can make for a potent combo, even in SUV guise. We’d expect AWD to make a reappearance with an i8 SUV, plus an ICE with a few extra cylinders to help it retain the i8’s sporting intentions. You probably wanna move the gas-burner into the nose as well. Oh, and that sci-fi exterior styling? Looks pretty good on an SUV – at least we think it does…

Aston Martin V12 Vantage SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753769

Aston Martin is well versed in the art of the grand tourer. Make it comfortable inside, make it beautiful outside, and make it very quick everywhere else. We think taking that formula and applying it to an SUV format would likely be equally as successful, given the average car buyer’s obsession with adding practicality to traditionally sports-focused brands. Either way, who can argue with 12 cylinders thumping under a well-louvered hood?

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753771

Muscle cars are actually pretty good inspiration material for a sporty SUV. The power is already there, so why not build on it with a large-and-in-charge body style? That’s exactly what’s going on with Camaro ZL1 SUV, which also tosses in the track-friendly coupe’s aero with a front splitter, lower bumper canards, and side skirts, not to mention that flat-black vented hood. The only question left to answer is what kind of times will it turn on the track…

Ferrari 488 SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753772

No doubt this one will have some of you out there crying foul, as the Prancing Horse would never, ever resort to creating an SUV, right? Right?! Not so fast there, chief. Word has it the Prancing Horse might be seriously considering exactly that, so this 488 concept might not be too far off the mark. Coming proper in corsa rosso red paint and rocking the sleek front end of its coupe sibling, this thing certainly looks the part of a Ferrari…

Honda NSX SUV Concept

Jennings Motor Group Renders 8 Sports Cars As SUVs - image 753774

The second-gen NSX is a fantastic piece of kit. Powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 boosted by two turbos, plus no less than three electric motors, its got the right powertrain to have us watering at the mouth, while the advanced exterior aero and space-age vibe help it stand out in the segment. Ported over to crossover form, it gets a much more bubbly countenance, but as long as it still goes like stink, we’d have a hard time complaining.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Plus Formula 3000 V-8 Equals Automotive Bliss: Video

Located in the north of Italy and surrounded by a jaw-dropping mountain vista, the municipality of Verzegnis has a lot to offer visitors. But beyond the stunning natural beauty and relaxing ambiance, Verzegnis also plays host to an annual hillclimb event. Officially sanctioned by the FIA, a variety of machinery show up every year to play in the twisting switchbacks and narrow two-lane tarmac, including the above-featured Alfa Romeo 4C. One look at this thing is enough to confirm it means business – just check out that aero, the ultra-wide and low stance, and race-ready rubber in the corners. But the real head-turner is coming out the twin exhaust pipes, where a high-strung Formula 3000 V-8 provides a soaring soundtrack.

According to YouTuber 19Bozzy92, the spec sheet is rather impressive – roughly 450 horsepower is on tap thanks to a 3.0-liter Zytek V-8, which is more than adequate considering the whole thing weighs just 700 kg (1,543 pounds). Throw in all the other competition-spec goodies, like upgraded steering, hardcore suspension, and a stripped interior, and this 4C has a ton of potential. Hit play, crank up your headphones, and bask in the sights and sounds of one of Turin’s finest tuned to 11.

PostHeaderIcon It's Not Looking Good For This Once Promising Alfa Romeo Model

What was supposed to be one of Alfa Romeo’s most important models has turned into a dud for the Italian automaker. The 4C Spider isn’t doing too well these days and if a report by AutoForecast Solutions is to be believed, the 4C Spider may very well end up being a one-and-done model.

It’s been established Alfa Romeo never thought the 4C Spider would be a sales hit, but even with that realization, the company had hoped that the model would at least make an impression, especially in the U.S. market. Turns out, the only thing the 4C Spider can boast of is that it has sold 11 more models than the Dodge Viper this year (309 to 298). That’s the same Viper that’s going out of production in 2017.

So with little to show for all the time and resourced Alfa Romeo put into developing the 4C Spider, it appears that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is cutting the cord on a possible successor to the model as a way of cutting its own losses in the process. To be fair, FCA has given no indication of its plans for the 4C Spider – or the coupe version – moving forward. The report may end up being true, or it may not. But neither FCA nor Alfa Romeo can’t hide from the fact that from a sales perspective, the 4C Spider has been a massive disappointment.

If FCA ends up sticking with the 4C, it’s going to have a lot of work to do on the model. If it doesn’t, well, it’s back to the drawing board, right? Either way, it’s not a good look for Alfa Romeo, especially at a time when the automaker is hoping to make a new impression in the U.S. market. It hasn’t happened yet for Alfa and the lukewarm reception to the 4C isn’t making it any easier for the company.
