PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo Could Bring Back The Brera As A Replacement To The 4C

The Alfa Romeo Brera was a front-wheel drive sports car that the Italian automaker built from 2005 to 2010. Despite garnering a handful of awards, the Brera wasn’t the seller that Alfa hoped it would be. Only 21,661 units were sold in its lifetime before the company decided to axe the model entirely. Fast forward six years later and there’s talk that Alfa is looking into dusting off the Brera name as it searches for a name for the eventual successor of the 4C.

According to Autobild, the “new” Brera will have some notable differences from its namesake, most notably the switch from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive with all-wheel drive being considered as an upgraded option. The sports car will also make use of the same platform that currently underpins the Giulia, which would make sense considering how heavily invested Alfa is to its existing premium sedan. Should the company proceed with this plan, the Brera will carry a front-mounted engine as opposed to the mid-engine layout of the 4C.

Speaking of the engine, details an engine-sharing scheme with the Giulia is possible, although power levels will be tuned differently to fit the specific needs of both cars. In the case of the Brera and its status as Alfa’s new sports car, expect the company to gear the car towards a more power-oriented profile with the possibility of using the same 2.9-liter turbocharged engine found in the Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde. The sedan has 505 horsepower on tap, so if the Brera were to use it, that output could be a little more than what the Giulia has.

Needless to say, all of this still subject to a lot of approvals from inside Alfa Romeo. But with the 4C already entrenched in its lifespan, it makes sense for the Italian automaker to begin looking ahead on its possible successor. If the Brera does get the green light, it could lineup against some of the segments notable heavyweights, including the Mercedes C-Class Coupe and the BMW 4 Series.

PostHeaderIcon 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Gets New Options

2016 Alfa Romeo 4C-0

The new 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C and 4C Spider are now arriving at U.S. and Canadian dealerships, boasting new options and personalization possibilities, most of which designed to make the 4C more usable. Rest assured, they will increase the cost of the sports car. But they also make it more irresistible.

The biggest highlights of the 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C on the outside concerns the Spider version and its new carbon fiber halo, underscoring the carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and windshield frame. Both models also get a new Carbon Fiber Trim Package with new elements on the instrument panel and shift bezels, instrument cluster surround and vent surrounds.

Some of the new options may sound ridiculous, but they make the 4C more livable and one wonders why they didn’t think of them from the beginning. We’re talking about stuff like the new lockable console and leather storage or the premium speakers. Alfa is also offering a top-notch leather upholstery with Tobacco and Black sport seats paired with a Black leather interior with Tobacco accent stitching.

Mechanically, the 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C and 4C Spider remain the same as before with a 1,750cc, 240 horsepower engine. But later in the year you will be able to order an Akrapovic dual-mode electronically controlled exhaust system which works wonders with the sound and adds a few more horses to the output.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Centurion 1Plus By Pogea Racing

The Alfa Romeo 4C may not be the most recognizable sports car in the market, but it sure as heck has the style and performance to give the rest of the lot a run for their money. I say this because that’s the 4C in standard configuration. Imagine what can happen if an aftermarket company can get its hands on the Alfa sports car and works its magic on it. We’ve already seen Garage Italia Customs release its program for the 4C Spider last month. Now it’s the 4C’s turn and doing the tuning honors is Pogea Racing.

The German tuner has been featured on these pages in the past, thanks in large part to programs like “A Force One” and “Seven Deadly Sins”. Today, Pogea Racing is introducing the “Centurion 1Plus”, a comprehensive tuning kit for the 4C that includes exterior upgrades and engine modifications.

The results are impressive, even if they’re not going to blow the lid off of the Alfa 4C. Just as important, Pogea Racing is limiting the availability of the Centurion 1Plus kit. If there’s even an inkling of interest out there, it might be best to get ahead of everybody else before all the available kits are scooped up.

Pogea Racing GmbH has come up with another upgrade package for the Alfa Romeo 4C sports car, this time squeezing 315 horsepower out of its tiny 1,750 cc turbocharged engine. The new Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C is dubbed Centurion 1Plus and it can speeds of over 300 km/h.

Aside from the performance boost, 315 hp and 455 Nm of torque (up from the standard 240 hp and 350 Nm), Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C also gets a nice visual treatment in form of a two-tone matte black and white paint work and a carbon fiber body kit consisting of a custom front spoiler and grille inserts, side skirts, rear apron, diffuser, and rear wing. The kit is complemented with a set of custom black wheels measuring 18” up front and 19” on out back.

The aero kit on Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C also creates a healthy amount of downforce, which is good since with the extra oomph the car is now capable of blistering performance. Zero to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds in this car and the top speed, as mentioned, is over 300 km/h.  Part of that is due to the boost in power output, part because of the upgraded twin-clutch transmission that is now a lot quicker, and a bit thanks to the high-performance tires measuring 265 on the driven wheels.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Spider – Showroom Pics

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Showroom-0

We have shown you a good deal of material on the stunning Alfa Romeo 4C Spider since its official debut. But we always prefer live, showroom pics than the studio photos the car maker releases. They show the car in its true colors and are often prettier than the press stuff.

So let’s go and check out these awesome showroom photos of a gorgeous cherry red Alfa Romeo 4C Spider sitting at a showroom in Avranches, France. As beautiful as the hardtop 4C is, the Spider is the one we’d choose, not just because it gives you access to the infinite blue of the sky above, but also because it comes with more decent looking headlights and benefits from the two-tone effect created by the pillars and the roof arrangement. We are also digging this red paint work. It certainly is a lot hotter than that yellow example we saw a while back.

Boasting a Formula 1 inspired carbon fiber monocoque chassis that enables an incredible power-to-weight ratio, Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is powered by the same all-aluminum 1750 cc turbocharged engine with direct-injection, dual intercoolers, and variable-valve timing you find int he coupe. It pumps out 240 horsepower which is good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Spider By Garage Italia Customs

Some of the most beautiful cars in the world have come straight out of Italy. Take the Alfa Romeo Spider, for instance. It may have been considered a “poor man’s Ferrari,” but the classic Pininfarina design and its twin-cam engine made it legendary. Of course, there is also the Lamborghini Murcielago, Maserati Bora, and Ferrari Enzo, among many others. Ferraris, Lambos, and Maseratis aside, I’m here today to talk about another Alfa Romeo Spider, but this time, it’s not one that was built from 1966 to 1993.

I’m talking about the Alfa Romeo 4C, specifically one that was customized in collaboration with Garage Italia Customs. The company’s main focus for each project car is to focus on the personality of each client, making each car just as unique as the person that owns it. I’ve seen some pretty wild modifications made to cars in my day, but this one is flat out elegant in every way.

The Alfa Romeo 4C comes a 1.7-liter, four-cylinder engine that puts out 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It has been on my wish list for years, but I never thought I would see one modified to the extent of the 4C by Garage Italia Customs.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Spot-0

Even though it was introduced a long time ago, Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is still a pretty rare sight out in the wild. This gorgeous yellow Spider comes to you all the way from the tiny country of Luxemburg. It is apparently the first one registered there.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is superior to its hardtop sibling in a number of ways. First and foremost, it’s a Spider and comes with 90 million miles of free sky. What’s more, with the roof taken away you can hear the throaty noise of that sweet 1,750cc engine pumped through two artificially tuned exhaust more clearly. So overall, the joy of driving the Spider is a lot greater than that of the Coupe.

The standard Alfa Romeo 4C Spider comes with much nicer headlights than the coupe as well, although this particular example seems to be fitted with the same ghastly carbon lights of the hardtop. Evidently the owner liked those things a lot. It still looks pretty sexy though, this Giallo 4C Spider boasting black wheels, and it makes the other cars on the street look like, well, to be frank it make everything else on the road look like scab!

Zender Alfa Romeo-0

Italian tuner Zender Group has come up with a new carbon fiber aero package for the Alfa Romeo 4C which not only improves the looks and aerodynamics of the vehicle, it also shaves 15 kg of weight. Zender Alfa Romeo 4C also comes with an upgraded interior.

Unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Zender Alfa Romeo 4C features a revised front bumper with new spoiler lips and air ducts, new carbon roof and side mirrors garnished with the Tricolore, side flaps, a tiny boot lid wing, and a cool new diffuser with integrated tailpipes that give the car a whole new look at the back.

The 4C is a featherweight as it is. But this treatment makes it even lighter, so if you are buying it make sure you put some cinder blocks in the boot or something or the wind might carry it away. Oh, right, the 4C does not have a boot. That’s OK, you can change the car to a pole or something!

Zender has improved the interior of the Alfa 4C as well by adding more leather and Alcantara and red stitching. They have left the engine intact, meaning you get the standard 275 horsepower which delivers a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h.

Alfa Romeo 4C Pogea

Calling a lean and fit car like the Alfa 4C a Centurion is a bit of a leap, but German tuner Pogea Racing believes what they’ve done to the Italian car does indeed turn it into something akin to one. Packing 313 horsepower, Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C is significantly quicker than the standard version.

The standard Alfa 4C, as you know, comes with a 1.75 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 240 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. After the Stage 1 program is applied to Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C, however, that Centurion can make 293 horsepower and 415 Nm of torque.

That is good power and a very decent boost over what you get out of the box. But Pogea has another trick up its sleeve called “Stage 1 Plus” named so probably to leave room for an even more potent Stage 2 in the future. This one makes 313 horsepower and a full 450 Nm of torque. With the second kit installed, Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C Centurion can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, to 200 km/h in 14.4 seconds, and reach a top speed of 301 km/h.

In terms of styling, Pogea Racing has equipped their 4C with a custom body kit consisting of a new front bumper featuring a prominent lip spoiler, revised rear fascia, new diffuser and a fixed rear wing. The kit is made from carbon fiber and can generate 35 kg of downforce at 160 km/h.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Spider U.S. Pricing Revealed

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider-US-0

The open-top version of the world’s loveliest sports car, the 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, will soon hit the American and Canadian showrooms, starting at $63,900. The car is produced in limited number though, so if you want one you’d had better already put your name down.

Those who are familiar with what the 4C Coupe offered do not need convincing that the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is a more awesome proposition because it offers the same sense of pure driving joy with the added benefit of the wind in your hear and a more complete absorption of that sweet engine sound by your ears. What’s more, the Spider comes with better-looking headlights, so it’s sexier than the coupe as well.

Made largely from carbon fiber, the 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider features a fairly rubbish minimalistic interior and a 1,750cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine. But to shun this car because of its numbers would be a giant mistake, because it is exactly the waste-free nature of the 4C that makes it such an amazing driving machine. Performance figures aren’t that bad, either. You get 237 horsepower, a top speed of 160 miles per hour (mph), 0-to-60 mph in 4.1 seconds, 1.1 g of lateral acceleration and 1.25 g of maximum braking deceleration.

“Spiders have always been at the very core of the ‘Great Alfa Romeos,’ and our all-new 4C Spider builds on the brand’s motorsport and technology heritage for an open-air experience that is pure driving exhilaration,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo North America. “From its track-proven 1750 turbocharged engine, to its hand-laid carbon fiber monocoque chassis, the 4C Spider takes the innovation and ingenuity of the 4C and delivers an open-air experience without sacrificing any of its supercar-level performance and capability.”

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

An odd statement referring to the Detroit Auto Show at the end of an otherwise ignorable blog post from FCA leads us to believe that the production 4C Spyder will debut in Detroit.

The 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider made its official debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and quickly found itself atop our wish list. Based on the 2014 4C, the 4C Spider gets a host of upgrades as it moves closer to its North American arrival in the 2016 model year. The most obvious change to the car is its removable top and additional bodywork rising from the rear decklid. A naked-carbon-fiber roll bar hoops over the passenger compartment, as does a similar windshield brace. Beside the lack of a sloping rear window, the car keeps a similar profile to its coupe counterpart.

There are changes underneath the bodywork, however. Alfa had to add structural supports to the carbon-fiber tub in order to retain the car’s rigidity. The new materials result in 132 additional pounds, but the Italians claim it the extra weight won’t affect the car’s performance. New, more traditional headlights replace the bug-eyed ones from the coupe, while new center-mounted exhaust pipes give the rear end a sportier look. Power comes from the same 1.75-liter, turbocharged, inline-four making 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. No changes are made to the only gearbox option, Alfa’s TCT twin-dry-clutch, six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Yes, it’s somewhat of a letdown that there’s no manual transmission, but at least the 4C Spider is coming to the U.S. as part of Alfa’s return to North America. That’s reason enough to keep us happy with only two pedals.

Updated 06/12/2015: Alfa Romeo announced prices for the new 4C Spider which will arrive at U.S. and Canadian dealerships this summer. Prices will start from $63,900 – excluding $1,595 destination.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Price

The new and super hot Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is now available to order in the UK for a base price of £59,500. This is a limited edition model which means it will sell out quickly and then you will have to pay a lot more to buy it from the dealers. So if you want one, chop chop!

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider follows the same lightweight recipe as its Coupe sibling. Just like that car, the Spider is not perfect. In fact it is fairly flawed as a car – it’s impractical and unnecessarily wide, and it has a rubbish interior. But then again, the 4C is not a normal car. It is a purebred sports car designed to appeal to your heart, not your brain. And it is brilliant at that.

This little sports car boasts some pretty high-end features such as an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre monocoque, a new aluminium rollover structure, carbon fibre windscreen frame and an engine compartment cross-member made from high-strength steel. Also exclusive to the Spider is a distinctive Spider buttresses and a new engine cover which also features three heat extractors and a subtle rear spoiler. The headlights are different as well too, but you can order those for the Coupe if you want.

Mechanically, Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is the same as the hardtop, featuring a 1,750 cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 240hp and 258lb.-ft. of torque, which is enough for a 0 to 60 time of 4.5 seconds. The Spider does however come as standard with Alfa Hi Fi sound system and optional premium leather with accent stitching and matching door cards. So its cabin is a bit less spartan than that of the Coupe.

PostHeaderIcon Review of Alfa Romeo 4C: Video

Plenty of praise has been heaped on Alfa’s little 4C sports car. Not only is it lightweight, quick, and achingly good-looking, it’s the first Alfa to be sold in the U.S. since the 8C in 2008. For a lot of folks, this Italian beauty is the culmination of the age-old automaker’s history. On paper, all is well. But what is it actually like to drive? XCAR’s Alex Goy decided to find out in this 12-minute video.

In typical fashion, the review is in-depth, starting with general perceptions, a few facts and engineering statistics, and a brief recap of Alfa’s extensive motorsport history, ending it with the pros, cons, and final conclusion. All of it is done with stunning rolling shots of the British landscape under an epic soundtrack.

In the end, Goy found the looks, the dual-clutch gearbox, the interior room and the engine all quite impressive. However, he didn’t like how the 4C felt at higher speeds, saying that it gets “…a bit unnerving. The wheel start’s grabbing and shimmying left and right, and in the end you end up hanging on for dear life more than actually feeling as though you’re in total control.” He was also disappointed by the harsh ride, expecting something a bit smoother.

The verdict? “The magic is there, it’s just not being seen properly yet.”

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Vs. Porsche Boxster

Alfa Romeo has slowly but surely become a shadow of its former self after Fiat took over the helm in 1986, but the little Italian carmaker that could is planning a return to its past glory. The first step was a relaunch of the Alfa Romeo brand in the U.S. – currently with just one model, the sexy little 4C. Since the 4C coupe was more than once pitted against the Porsche Cayman, the newly unveiled 4C Spider can only go against the Cayman’s open-top brother, the Boxster.

Both the 4C Spider and the Boxster are mid-engine, lightweight, and have similar specifications, with the higher power of the Porsche being compensated for by the lower weight of the Alfa. But they are still very different, so I decided to see which of the two would come on top when their features are examined closely.

Continue reading to learn which model we like better: the Alfa Romeo 4C Spyder or the Porsche Boxster.

PostHeaderIcon Alfa Romeo 4C Rally Car?

Back in the day, the Lancia Stratos was absolutely dominant in the international rally scene, winning three consecutive World Rally Championships in 1974, 1975, and 1976. It was one of the last successful RWD rally cars before the Audi Quattro introduced all-wheel grip to the scene in the early 80s, and it’s often lauded as one of the prettiest rally cars ever made.

Nowadays, Lancia hasn’t exited from the sideways stuff completely, but has yet to recapture its former glory. As far as I’m concerned, all the marque needs is a hero car in line with the original Stratos.

It appears the folks at Boldride agree, and came up with this gorgeous rendering of a new-age Lancia based on the current Alfa Romeo 4C. Featuring the same mid-engine, RWD layout as the streetcar, it’s unlikely this thing would offer similar performance as a modern AWD rally racer, but who cares? If it came with that classic Alitalia racing livery draped over the iconic wedge design, I doubt you’d hear any complaints.

Boldride says the stock four-cylinder would probably get tossed in favor of a 350-horsepower V-6, something fans of the historical Stratos are sure to appreciate (not to mention anyone who likes more speed). Acceleration figures would clock in at 0-to-60 in around four seconds. The publication also says a manual transmission would be unlikely, given its absence in the 4C.

One look at this thing is all the convincing I need. Add my name to the petition.
