PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic Estate

Mercedes has finally released the estate version of its tenth-generation E-Class, and to go with it, the AMG E43 4Matic variant. In typical Mercedes fashion, the new E43 Estate features a more aggressive front end with the standard AMG grille, a set of stylish wheels on the side, and a nice diffuser element with revised exhaust outlets in the rear. Inside, you’ll find a black interior with red accents, sport seats, lots of leather, and a multifunction configurable double color display that features its own AMG graphics. Under the hood, you’ll find AMG’s 3.0-liter Biturbo engine with a significant increase in horsepower and torque over the standard model, plus a nine-speed automatic transmission that feeds power to all four wheels.

Tobias Moers, the Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said, “In recent months we have considerably expanded our model range for performance-oriented customers with our new 43 models, creating numerous new ways of entering the world of Mercedes-AMG. The new E43 4Matic Estate adds a particularly versatile alternative for business and recreation to this portfolio.”

It’s no secret that the station wagon segment has seen better days, with the current market only offering a handful of wagon or estate models to choose from. Be that as it may, brands like Audi, Subaru, and in this case, Mercedes, have all managed to continuously give a breath of life into the estate market. The announcement of the E-Class wagon was a pretty big deal, bringing yet another model to the E-Class lineup, but now that Mercedes has also announced the E43 Estate, the lineup gets even better with a new performance wagon for a pretty bland market. So, let’s take a good look at the new Mercedes-AMG E43 Wagon and how it breathes new life into the market.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG Considering Adding Another AMG Model

The success of the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe is giving the German automaker reason to believe that another dedicated AMG model could be offered, one that would sit above the popular sports car. AMG boss Tobias Moers touched on that possibility in a recent conversation with Autocar, hinting that if the model does hit production, it would take up the slot vacated by the SLS AMG.

If the model does get the approval of Mercedes management, Moers indicated that AMG could go in a number of different directions on how it wants to model to come out. The common belief though, in addition to it sitting above the AMG GT, is that it could be packaged as a mid-engine hybrid supercar that would draw technologies from both the automaker’s current crop of road cars and its Formula One operation. A lightweight construction and electrical power are believed to be the most important elements of the car and taking into account the circumstances, such a proposal wouldn’t be difficult to execute considering that Mercedes already has the resources and the technology to make it work.

The model’s status is still be in its infancy and there are still a lot of things that could happen on how the model will be shaped. But according to Moers, don’t expect it to veer into the direction of a limited-edition hypercar like the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, or Ferrari LaFerrari. That’s a non-starter, according to the AMG chief, largely because Mercedes-AMG isn’t planning to enter that ultra exclusive market anytime soon.

So with that avenue out of the question, the likely scenario for this model would be as tech-loaded rival to the McLaren 650S and the Ferrari 488 GTB. It’s worth noting that the SLS AMG served as direct rivals to the 650S and the 488 GTB’s predecessors, the McLaren 12C and the Ferrari 458 Italia, respectively.

In the event the project is approved, there is a scenario that it could be offered in a number of different variants. This could include coupe, convertible, and special edition models, similar to the strategy being employed by its rivals. There’s no production timetable for the supercar, but if Mercedes-AMG is as serious about it as Moers appears to be, expect an announcement to arrive sometime within 2016.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG Looking To Add "At Least" 10 New Models By Year's End

Mercedes is cooking up some big plans for its high-performance division and if the fruits come to bear, we could be in line for at least 10 new models bearing the AMG nameplate. This exciting development came from no less than Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers, who spoke to Automotive News and elaborated on plans to beef up the AMG lineup in light of the division’s growing sales volume.

Moers didn’t specify which existing AMG variants will receive new members to their families, but he did say that at least 10 will be added before 2016 ends. What’s clear is that the big wigs over at Daimler are toasting the peaking popularity of AMG. In 2015 alone, sales of AMG models reached 68,875 units, an impressive increase of 40 percent from its sales numbers the year before.

Demand is definitely on the uptick and Mercedes is smart to take advantage of maximizing that potential. Adding more models to its lineup will go a long way in addressing that, but the German automaker is also exploring other ways to leverage AMG’s popularity to reach more audiences.

According to Moers, one way of doing that is increasing the profile of AMG among its massive Mercedes dealership network. Dedicated AMG showroom areas are increasing and Mercedes itself is considering setting up stand-alone AMG showrooms. One is already scheduled to open in Japan and another one could follow in Australia, if it’s determined feasible for that market.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG C63 S Estate "Rottweiler" by Piecha

It doesn’t take someone of high intellect to understand that wagons aren’t as sexy as sports cars. That’s never been the case and that’ll never be the case unless automakers completely reinvent the way we look at these cars. But, just because they don’t look sporty in the traditional sense, that doesn’t mean they can’t perform like a sports car. Take the case of the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate. On the surface, you won’t mistake it for its two-door brother. But, pop open the hood, and it becomes a different story.

Now take that story and add another chapter to it in the form of Piecha Design. The German tuner knows Mercedes models like the back of its hand and that disposition has led it to create some of the fiercest programs for Affalterbach’s finest. This time, it’s set its sights on the aforementioned AMG C63 S Estate, the kind of car that runs like a sports car, despite its grocery-getter body.

The kit, appropriately dubbed the “Rottweiler,” is comprehensive. It’s got an aerodynamic kit, a new set of wheels, and most importantly, an engine upgrade that gives it enough power to shame some of the industry’s finest sports cars. That’s saying a lot for an estate, but the proof is in the pudding. Go check it out and see how angry this Piecha-tuned AMG C63 S Estate can be.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet

Mercedes is debuting a ton of AMG products in New York this year, including the GLC43, E43, and CLA45. The latest addition to the roster is the new C63 Cabriolet, which follows hot on the heels of the C-Class Cabriolet and C43 Cabriolet that dropped in Geneva earlier this month. The C63 Cab adds the usual high-performance AMG’d bits and pieces, like an aggressive exterior package and an upgraded interior. The biggest news, however, is what’s making the go, as this range-topper replaces the C43’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 with a twin-turbo V-8.

Buyers can choose between two levels of C63 Cab – the standard version, or the even-crazier C63 S. Both are fire-breathing tire-shredders with a zeal for velocity, very much in line with the established AMG go-faster philosophy. But does the open-top design dilute the formula?

Updated 03/23/2016: The 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 was officially revealed in New York! Read on for all the details.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG CLA45 Shooting Brake

In recent years, Mercedes-Benz made huge steps toward expanding its vehicle lineup. Its new products not only gave the Germans access to previously unexplored markets, but also helped create completely new segments. One such model was the CLA. Introduced in 2013 as a smaller and affordable proposition to the sleek CLS, the CLA was a huge success in both Europe and the U.S. in its first two years on the market. In 2014, Mercedes added a wagon to the CLA lineup, calling it the Shooting Brake.

Also a smaller version of the CLS Shooting Brake, the coupe-styled compact wagon received an AMG version in 2015, powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder used in the A45 AMG. For 2016, the CLA Shooting Brake received the more powerful engine from the facelifted hot-hatch. Only a year has passed since then, and Mercedes has prepared yet another upgrade for the Shooting Brake.

Unveiled alongside its standard sibling and sedan versions, the AMG CLA45 Shooting Brake receives its first mid-cycle facelift. Not surprisingly, modifications are mild and include revised bumper sections, new wheels, and new trim for the interior. Unfortunately, there is no word whether the Shooting Brake will finally come to the U.S. or not. Given that most automakers have quit selling wagons Stateside, chances are this sleek grocery getter won’t cross the pond to the U.S. for many years to come. Still, the CLA45 Shooting Brake is a unique vehicle worth checking out and that’s exactly what we’ll do in the review below.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG C63 Black Series

A few years back, Mercedes replaced the CLC with a real C-Class Coupe. In 2016, we finally got the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe – the replacement for the W204-based 2015 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe. The new C63 Coupe took on Mercedes new design language and a new 4.0-liter V-8 that has become common in AMG-based vehicles. There was a 2013 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe, so it is only fitting that there will eventually be a Mercedes-AMG C63 Black Series that boasts the new styling and engine from the new C63.

That said, we decided to have our resident artist create a rendering of the C63 Black Series ahead of time, and we were excited to see what he came up with. Obviously, it will look quite similar to the C63, but it will have all the goodies normally associated with a track-focused black series, including some more aggressive body styling and some black accenting to give it that darker appearance that stands out among other models in the crowd.

We’ve been excited to take a deeper look at the C63 Black Series, and now that we have a predictive rendering, we’re going to do just that. Join us as we look over the rendering and make some predictions about the C63 Black Series.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet-0

Launching alongside the new Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is the high-performance variant, the Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet. This is one of the most exciting cars to be launched this year, boasting everything you need for a joyful drive.

The cool features of the Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet begin with a soft-top which is the same as the one on the C-Cabrio, going up and down electronically in 20 seconds, giving you access to 90 million miles of sky. Then there is the engine, an AMG-tuned 3.0-liter V6 Biturbo engine with 362 hp and 384 lb-ft. of torque.

That engine is the core of all that is good about the C43 Cabriolet, striking the perfect balance between performance and efficiency with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h, and the fuel consumption of a conventional four-banger. It comes with the new 9-G tronic automatic transmission with different driving modes.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic Cabriolet

Just last week it was announced that Mercedes-AMG was going to debut its new C43 4Matic Coupe at the Geneva Auto Show in March. Now, just a day before its official debut, Mercedes has announced the Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic Cabriolet. Like the Coupe, the Cabriolet comes with a fairly powerful V-6 engine, AMG performance 4Matic all-wheel drive, and a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Of course, the Cabriolet comes with one feature the coupe doesn’t – a retractable top.

We were expecting to see a C43 Cabriolet soon, but we didn’t expect it to debut at the same time as the coupe version. Tobias Moers, the Chief Executive of Mercedes-AMG, said, “The AMG product portfolio will continue to grow rapidly this year, making the world of Driving Performance more diverse than ever. Our new product line continues to expand at a fast pace and, with the C 43 4Matic Cabriolet, we are offering a younger target group yet another alternative to discover the fascinating world of AMG.”

So, we know there is eventually more coming to the product line, but before that happens, let’s take a closer look at the new C43 drop top. Surely it’s bound to pose some good competition for those wanting to obtain a performance-oriented convertible.

PostHeaderIcon 2017 Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe Unveiled

Just a week before debuting at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, Mercedes has unveiled its latest addition to the C-Class lineup – the AMG C43 Coupe. We first saw the C43 AMG name way back in 1997, and now, it’s coming off the shelf as a replacement for the 450 Sport.

Motivation comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, which produces 362 horsepower between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm, and 384 pound-feet of torque between 2,000 and 4,200 rpm. Mercedes says it modified the engine for more boost and higher revs, and that it added a new Formula 1-derived friction-reducing coating to the cylinder liners. A sprint to 60 mph takes 4.6 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

A nine-speed automatic transmission handles gear changes, offering up double-declutching on downshifts for a sportier feel. There’s also a manual mode to engage the steering-wheel-mounted paddles. Four-wheel grip comes courtesy of AMG’s Performance AWD system, which biases towards the rear with 69 percent of available torque sent aft.

Hauling it down are 14.2-inch brakes up front and 12.6-inch brakes in back. There’s speed-sensitive steering, plus adaptive dampening for the suspension. Drivers will have a plethora of driving modes to choose from, including three-stage electronic stability.

Visually, the C43 Coupe stands out with the usual AMG swagger. There’s silver chrome trim everywhere, a high-gloss black diamond grille, and large intakes in the front fascia. Pop the hood, and you’ll find a red aluminum insert on the engine cover. You get 18-inch wheels as standard, while 19-inchers are optional.

Inside, there’s black MBTex/Dinamica microfiber upholstery with red stitching, as well as a flat-bottomed, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel (also with red stitching), and AMG instrumentation with a 4.5-inch color display in the gauge cluster.

Stay tuned for more info as we kick off our coverage of the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes AMG GT3 Inspires Cigarette Racing Performance Boat

Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing further strengthen their partnership by releasing a new boat that is said to be inspired by the Mercedes AMG GT3 race car. The Cigarette Racing Team 41’ SD GT3 boat is pitched as the most powerful “open performance” boat ever.

As usual, the inspirations the boat draws from the racing car are limited to the visual features. Cigarette Racing SD GT3 features a similar paint work as well as Gorden Wagener-designed handcrafted interior and exterior, matte components, a complete teak wood floor and a full extreme marine grade leather interior. The boast also comes with Bluetooth, computerized controls, three high-definition 17” displays, as well as Garmin and Cigarette navigation and audio.

Wheres as the Mercedes AMG GT3 is powered by a 6.2 liter V8 engine, the Cigarette Racing boat it has inspired boasts a pair of Mercury Racing 1100 HP engines with NXT6 Drives. They provide enough power to propel the 41’ sea craft to an estimated prop limited top speed of more than 100 mph. That’s an impressive turn of speed, but we can’t imagine it would be very comfy for those onboard.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Mercedes-Benz performance brand again this year to design our fastest open performance center console powerboat yet,” said Skip Braver, President and CEO of Cigarette Racing Team. “The 41’ SD GT3 embodies our brand’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship and once again shows the strength of our collaboration with Mercedes-AMG.”

PostHeaderIcon video with the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Coupe: Video

As racing video games become more and more realistic these days, it’s become very important for game developers to come up with a feature that can differentiate itself from other games. That’s especially true for games like Driveclub, which doesn’t have the same amount of following as Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.

On that end, Driveclub did just that by releasing its first-ever 360-degree video of a Mercedes-AMG S 65 Coupe racing around with its fellow Silver Arrows brethren. The video is fantastic for a couple of reasons, and the best part about it is how you, as a viewer, can rotate around using the direction buttons on the upper-left end of the screen.

Doing this lets you watch the race from a complete 360-degree angle, allowing you to look at the race from all conceivable angles. Combine that with the impeccable graphics and the all-too realistic environment and you have a unique video game experience that really brings the action to life.

It’s an incredible glimpse of what you can experience when you play Driveclub. Now, I’ve had my time with the game and I can attest to the incredible attention-to-detail it possesses. But, I’ve yet to try out this 360-degree view and, while it does seem difficult to navigate both the car and the camera angle, it’s something that I’m definitely excited to check out.

Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet-0

Mercedes-Benz decided to end 2015 on a high note by releasing the most powerful and most luxurious drop-top car they’ve ever made. The new Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet complements a very extensive S-Class range, boasting a 6.0?litre V12 biturbo engine.

That massive powertrain is rated at 463 kW (630 hp) and a round 1000 nm of maximum torque in the 2016 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet, thus turning it to a super deluxe cruiser with the ability to leave most supercars for dead in a drag race. The car is not a barge in the corners either, on account of it having a sport suspension based on AIRMATIC system.

But the true nature of the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet is being a big, soft, comfortable, open-top mile muncher that could be used even in heart of the winter. And so it has been equipped with stuff like AIRCAP automatic wind protection system, the AIRSCARF neck-level heating system, heated armrests and intelligent climate control. Not only that, the soft-top itself is a three-layered acoustic fabric available in four colours. The four-seater convertible S65 AMG comes with nappa leather and DINAMICA microfibre.

Performance-wise, the big and heavy Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds on to a limited top speed of 250 km/h. But if you get the AMG Driver’s package, that’ll raise the top speed to 300 km/h.

PostHeaderIcon Official: Mercedes A45 AMG 2015 World Champion Edition

Mercedes A45 AMG World Champion-0

You would think that winning the Formula One world championship title would warrant a nicer special model than an A-Class – an indeed last year they based it on the SL63 AMG. But to celebrate their 2015 title Mercedes-AMG has come up with this, the Mercedes A45 AMG 2015 World Champion Edition.

It might only be a hot hatch, but it’s a special one. After all, Mercedes A45 AMG 2015 World Champion Edition celebrates the Constructors’ World Championship, the Drivers’ Championship and runner-up titles by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Boasting special features inside and out, this car is dubbed “an everyday Silver Arrow.”

The design of Mercedes A45 AMG World Champion, as you would expect, is inspired by that of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One car with a silver base and green graphics, complemented with 19-inch wheels and a carbon fiber aero kit. You can order other colors, but they all have a grayish hue about them, so you best stick with the default.

As for the interior, Mercedes A45 AMG World Champion Edition features the Dynamic Plus package with sport seats wrapped in leather and Alcantara, or DINAMICA, and styled with green stitching and piping to match the green trim pieces on the dashboard. They are almost cool enough to justify the 65,402 EUR starting price of this car.

PostHeaderIcon Chris Harris Makes Short Report On 2015 Frankfurt; Drives A45 AMG: Video

The 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean that it is dead just yet. If you’re like me, taking a journey to another country for an auto show just doesn’t fit well in the budget. Then again, who needs to do that when people like Chris Harris put together short and interesting videos that give us a glimpse into what we aren’t able to experience for ourselves.

This video by Chris showcases various models like the 2016 Ford Focus RS, and the 2015 Porsche Mission E concept, among others from BMW, Volkswagen and Lamborghini to name a few. Of course, watching a video of cars doing nothing but looking gorgeous can get boring pretty quick, but that won’t happen here, because in the middle of the video, we get to see Chris review the 2015 Mercedes-AMG A45 as he slides around the track.

The 2015 Mercedes-AMG A45 is one quick hatchback. Far from cheap, it starts out at nearly $63,000, but comes with a segment-topping 381 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. As you’ll see in the video, it hits 62 mph (100 kph) in a mere 4.2 seconds. The A45 isn’t the only interesting thing you’ll see in the video, though. Just wait until you see how big BMW’s display is. Enjoy!

For a few years now Mercedes has been rolling out Edition 1 versions for most of its new models, allowing customers to purchase special-edition cars with extra features inside and out. Updates often included special paints from the Desgino palette, custom wheels, two-tone leather schemes, microfiber inserts, and even LED headlamps with Swarovski crystals, like seen on the 2015 Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe. With the awesome 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe launched earlier in 2015, Mercedes has now unveiled yet another Edition 1 model.

The new two-door was announced alongside the 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM, a new race car the Germans will use in the 2016 DTM championship. The fact that both the DTM and the Edition 1 were launched at the same time is no coincidence, as the road car borrows certain elements from its racing sibling. This makes the AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1 a bit more special than other Edition 1 Mercs, but you’ll have to keep reading to find out more about that.

Updated 04/05/2016: In the past few days Mercedes-AMG dropped a series of promo video for its latest C63 S Edition 1. Hit “play” to watch the sports coupe in action.

It’s been less than two weeks since Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, and Stuttgart has already announced that a new DTM car based on the new two-door is underway. The race car will be ready just in time for the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season as a competitor for the updated 2014 BMW M4 DTM and 2014 Audi RS5 DTM.

The new Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM is set to replace the current 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Coupe DTM, which the Germans have been using since 2012, when regulations changed to allow coupes instead of sedans.

“The new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will again set new standards for driving dynamics and design. So, the vehicle provides the ideal basis for our DTM car,” said head of Mercedes-AMG DTM, Ulrich Fritz. “I’m already looking forward to seeing the new Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM compete in 2016. Our aim with this vehicle is, of course, to continue the Mercedes-Benz success story in the DTM.”

There’s no word as to when the new race car will be unveiled, but we should see it in the metal by the end of 2015 and in action in early 2016, before the next DTM season commences in May. For now, Mercedes-Benz has only released a handful of sketches of the car. Find out more below.
