The new Audi RS6 Avant has been spotted covered in partial camouflage while making the test rounds recently. The high-performance wagon model of the A6 sedan is the latest Audi model to be captured by spy photographers. If anything, this shows that Audi’s test drivers have had their work cut out of them. The sporty station wagon was even spotted alongside the RS Q8 SUV.

Update 03/27/2019: We’ve received some new spy shots of the 2020 Audi RS6, This time in full production form. Check out the latest in our ”Spy Shots” section below.

After a short teasing campaign, the German tuner Abt revealed their newest work of art. Actually, “work of mad.” Based on top of the already frighteningly fast Audi RS6, Abt showcased the RS6-E Hybrid Concept, a car featuring a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, V-8 and a freaking 288 horsepower electric motor strapped to the transmission.

Please welcome the first hyper-wagon with 1,004 horsepower. Of course, it had to be an Audi.

PostHeaderIcon Want a Performance Wagon Other than a AMG E 63 S or the Panamera Sport Turismo? Tell Audi You Want an RS Avant

The Audi RS Avant super wagons aren’t available in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean the status quo isn’t going to change. Audi is open to bringing its rip-roaring machines to the land of milk and honey; it just needs to make a good business case for it. In that vein, fans of the RS 4 and RS 6 Avants can do their part to convince Audi by “writing letters” to the German automaker. Tongue-in-cheek hints aside, these letters could go a long way in establishing a viable marketplace for both super wagons.

PostHeaderIcon Audi May Bring RS Avant Models To The U.S. But It’s A Reach

Who doesn’t love a fast wagon? We’re certainly pretty big fans, and we can’t help but dribble a bit when considering the prospect of getting into something like Audi’s line of RS Avants. Now, it looks like the Four-Ring brand is actually considering bringing these quick-’n-practical machines stateside. Maybe. Hopefully? All told, the brand isn’t ruling it out – we’ll take it.

PostHeaderIcon John Olsson’s New Ride is A Two-Faced RS6 With Sinister Intentions

Jon Olsson is known for his love of cars and owning some of the most desirable custom-built exotics in the world. The Swedish alpine ski racer is particularly fond of the Audi RS6 Avant. He once owned a heavily tuned RS6 Avant that met an untimely end when it was stolen and burned to a crisp. Not one to be unnerved by the circumstances that befell his ride, Olsson bought a new RS6 Avant before turning it over to ABT Sportsline for a little tuning job. The result is the Audi RS6 Phoenix.

“A more potent engine tune is also included in the program, one that elevates the output of the car’s 4.0-liter, Biturbo, V-8 engine to 725 horsepower and 679 pound-feet of torque.”

If there’s one thing you need to know about Jon Olsson, it’s that his taste for exotics is as varied as the seasons of the year. In addition to owning Audis, Olsson has also owned Lamborghinis, Nissan GTRs, Audi RS6s, and even an Ultimate GTR Rebellion R2K. The car in question now, though, is a new RS6 that was booked an appointment with ABT Sportsline, the same company that gave birth to the Audi RS6 Avant Performance Nogaro Edition.

Olsson’s RS6 Phoenix follows a similar tuning blueprint as the Nogaro Edition. It’s based on the German tuner’s RS6+ program, complete with an aggressive body kit that includes a laundry list of aerodynamic components. A more potent engine tune is also included in the program, one that elevates the output of the car’s 4.0-liter, Biturbo, V-8 engine to 725 horsepower and 679 pound-feet of torque. By comparison, the aforementioned Nogaro Edition’s peak output sits at 695 horsepower and 649 pound-feet of torque. Do the math and Olsson’s RS6 Phoenix has the edge by 30 ponies and 30 pound-feet of twist.

“Since this is Olsson we’re talking about, the RS6 Phoenix gets a three-color exterior.”

Since this is Olsson we’re talking about, the RS6 Phoenix gets a three-color exterior. One side is dressed in black while the other is finished in white. A red streak can be found in the middle, running along the length of the car and acting as a separator between the white and the black treatment.

Even the car’s wheels have their own personality. The wheels are dressed up, although the Continental tires that were used in the wagon have white Michelin stickers over them. We’re not going to pretend to understand what that means, only because Jon Olsson is far from having predictable tastes when it comes to his custom-built exotics. The good news is that he seems to like how the RS6 turned out. Look at that big grin on the skier’s face. I’m sure if the RS6 Phoenix was yours, you’d be smiling from ear to ear as well.

PostHeaderIcon Audi RS6+ by ABT Sportsline

This time last year, ABT Sportsline was preparing its involvement at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and one of the cars that it was presenting was the Audi RS6 Avant. It’s funny then that exactly a year later, the German tuner is back in Geneva and one of the cars it’s bringing with it to the auto show is… the Audi RS6 Avant. But before you start screaming “recycle,” it’s important to know that this isn’t last year’s program. In fact, it’s different in a lot of ways, starting with its name: the Audi RS6+ Avant.

Okay, the “+” is the only thing different with the name, but let it be said that, for better or worse, there are a lot of differences between last year’s program and this new one. This program, for example, has a more rounded aerodynamic package than last years. On the other hand, last year’s engine upgrade program – believe it or not – resulted in more power for the RS6 compared to this year’s engine upgrade program. Weird, right?

Most importantly, though, the Audi RS6+ isn’t just made up of a tuning kit like it was with last year’s offering. This version of Audi’s stately wagon is actually a special edition model that’s part of the German tuner’s lineup for the 2017 staging of the Geneva Motor Show. Only 50 units of the RS6+ will be built with the first production of the 50 being the one that will attend the show.

So if somebody you know wonders what the “+” is for in the car’s name, remind them that this creation by ABT Sportsline isn’t a traditional tuning kit. Instead, it’s a tuning kit developed specifically for this car with the intent to sell said tuned cars in very limited numbers. Makes sense now, right?

PostHeaderIcon Top Gear Magazine Drag Races Two High-Powered Wagons: Video

I love it when a vehicle does something unexpected. Just a few examples might include a school bus that does a wheelstand all the way down the 1320, or a mud-eating Smart Fortwo that crushes off-road, or a wagon with enough power to smoke a sports car. Unfortunately, those first two take a little extra wrench time, but if it’s a cargo-hauling five-door speed machine you’re after, ze Germans have the answer – several, in fact. Top Gear Magazine recently got its hands on two of them for a straight-line runway showdown, and the result is this two-and-a-half minute video.

In the red corner, we have the Audi RS6 Avant, which comes loaded with a 4.0-liter V-8 boosted by two turbos for 552 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, all of which gets routed to the pavement via the Four Ring’s quattro AWD system. In the black corner is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate, which also gets a twin-turbo V-8, but ups displacement to 5.5-liters and increases output to 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Only the rear axle provides the traction.

Clearly, the Audi has the advantage off the line, as the Merc will no doubt scramble to put down all that muscle from a standstill. Once in motion, however, the Audi will start to lose ground to the more powerful AMG missile.

Which Teutonic terror will come out on top? Hit play to find out.

PostHeaderIcon Audi RS6 Exclusive in Polarblau

Polarblau Audi RS6-0

The latest tailor-made, uniquely equipped Audi model to go on display at the car maker’s huge Neckarsulm facility is a sexy Audi RS6 Exclusive high performance wagon. This individual RS6 is finished in a wonderful shade of blue with a special shine to it they call Polarblau Metallic.

As is the case with all ‘Individual’ models, the special paint job is only part of the unique treatment given to this Audi RS6 Exclusive, but it is the biggest highlight. The Polarblau Metallic (individual code Q0Q0) walks a fine line between being bright and eye-catchy and remaining cool and discreet. It only shines like a diamond when there’s plenty of light. When it’s cloudy, it has a very lovely dim look about it which is just magnificent. The paint work is complemented with goodies from Audi Sport, namely extra carbon detailing, titanium tailpipes and five-spoke Star design ‘Titanoptik’ wheels.

Another highlight of Audi RS6 Exclusive, and one equally impressive as the color, is the interior design and materials. The first thing you notice in there is an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with Cobalt Blue leather 12-hour marking. You find more Alcantara accenting the gear shifter, while Ara Blue leather with contrast stitching is used to adorn the dashboard, plus carbon fiber as the dominant trim material covering the consoles, dashboard fascia, and part of door cards. The carbon has a unique blue tinting to it that matches the theme of the interior. Volcano leather seats and blue Alcantara door covers are other notable features.

Estate sedans, or station wagons as they’re otherwise referred to, have often been perceived as family cars. But over the past few years, an influx of high-performance wagons have invaded the market. One of these models is the Audi RS6, which packs, among other things, a 4.0-liter TFSI V8 engine that spits out 560 horsepower and 517 pound-feet of torque. Impressive, right? Well, that depends on who you ask because if that question was posed to ABT Sportsline, the answer would be “not quite.”

The German tuner maybe impressed with the RS6 Avant, but as a company that has been around for 120 years, it’s predisposed to always think of ways to make the car better. Sure enough, ABT Sportsline did just that when it presented its latest tuning program for the RS6 Avant at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The kit is typical of what you’d expect to come from ABT Sportsline. It has an aerodynamic package, dressed up interior, new set of wheels, and most importantly, an engine upgrade that puts the wagon’s power output into the realm of today’s supercars. It seems weird to think that a wagon is capable of mind-numbing performance numbers, but given that Audi already gave it a V-8 engine, it would’ve been an even bigger surprise if ABT Sportsline left the engine alone.

Ultimately, this RS6 Avant is so far removed from the perceptions attributed to station wagons that you might as well treat it as a supercar hiding in a wagon’s clothing. The only downside is that the German tuner is only building 12 of these babies to commemorate its 120th anniversary. Seems a little low for a car with some historical ties, right?

ABT Audi RS6 R-pic-0

The ABT-tuned version of Audi RS6 was unveiled last year, but it is still the hottest high-performance wagon in the world. Sadly though, we don’t see that many ABT Audi RS6 R models out in the wild. And this one we found in a showroom, which doesn’t count.

This car being in a showroom means that soon somebody will buy and then it will grace the streets with its hawking presence and tire-shredding power, teaching supercars four or five times its price a lesson they won’t soon forget.

This black ABT Audi RS6 R is on sale at Car & Car showroom in Italy, boasting the full treatment the German tuner offers for the sports wagon. It features a complete carbon fiber body kit consisting of front lip spoiler and winglets, side skirts, and rear diffuser with integrated tailpipes, plus a set of ABT’s classic turbine design wheels, also in black.

It is the same 4.0 liter bi-turbo V8 unit you find in the standard car, but ABT has upgraded it from the standard 540 to a massive 730 horsepower. Come to think of it, this thing might be THE perfect car. It’s got looks, power, luxury, quality, and room for your dog in the back!

PostHeaderIcon Audi RS6 Allroad

Rumors about the automotive market seem to be flying around a lot lately. In fact, it seems like we car guys always have something to talk about. Today it’s a rumor that appears to be coming directly out of Germany. As speculation would have it, Audi is planning to add an Allroad variant of the RS6 to its lineup.

Details are pretty thin at this point, and Audi has yet to mention anything about it. We do know that Volkswagen AG recently announced that it would be cutting back, so we didn’t expect to see a new project so soon. A model like the RS6 Allroad would sit in a niche market, so it seems like a weird project to come about now – with the all the drama VAG has on its hands right now, anyway. Then again, with a potential release date of Fall 2016, the RS6 Allroad could have been in the works before VAG’s world came crashing down. In that case, you couldn’t blame the company for capitalizing on money already invested in development.

Only time will tell if the rumor has any truth to it, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating on what an RS6 Allroad would look like. That said, we’ve put together a rendering high-performance, high-riding Audi. Should the rumor turn out to be true, we believe it will look similar to the images you’re looking at now. Keep reading to find out all about it.

PostHeaderIcon Spotlight: Austin Yellow Audi RS6

Austin Yellow Audi RS6-0

Once more Audi Forum Neckarsulm is the venue where the delivery of an Exclusive model takes place. The model in question this time is a unique Austin Yellow Audi RS6, featuring a color Audi has evidently nicked from BMW.

Just like gold, pink and purple, this shade of yellow is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some may even hate it extra hard because it’s been applied to an Audi, since these cars are often finished in serious and sober colors like grey and black. But there is no denying that in terms of spectacularity, this Austin Yellow Audi RS6 is off the hook!

The unique paint work on this RS6 is complemented with a set of brushed silver wheels and a two-tone interior. The dominant theme inside the cabin is black, but it also has some nice cream-colored leather and white stitching in interesting patterns. We are particularly digging the combo on the steering wheel.

Austin Yellow Audi RS6 is a standard model under the skin, powered by the famous 4.0 TFSI engine with 412 kW (560 hp) which makes possible a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. In its latest iteration, this engine also returns 24.5 US mpg, corresponding to 223 grams CO2 per kilometer.

PostHeaderIcon Virtual Tuning: Bengala Audi RS6 Wide Body

bengala-audi-rs6

In the real world not many people entertain the idea of bagging a high-performance station wagon, as it ruins two of the car’s key features: performance and practicality. But such a thing can readily exist in the virtual world, as shown by this Bengala Audi RS6 which is fitted with a wide body kit and air suspension.

You wouldn’t want to do this to your real RS6 because the wide body treatment and the extra wide wheels and tires that come with it, plus the air suspension and what that entails, compromise the performance of the precisely-engineered Audi. That said, seeing how gosh darn cool the thing looks in this rendering, you might want to go ahead and have your car bagged regardless.

Bengala Audi RS6 wide body is quite possibly the meanest version of the car imagined to date. The logo-less grille up front complete with the blacked-out trims and grille inserts, the large air intakes, massive front splitter, fat fenders, side skirts, and, presumably, rear diffuser and wing turn the RS6 from a handsome estate car into a vicious and angry monster that looks like it wants to kill you.

Don’t be scared, though. Even though the RS6 has a hugely powerful engine, this Bengala Audi RS6 won’t be able to catch up with you in the state it is in. It will be stumped by the first speed bump, and challenged by the first tight turn!

PostHeaderIcon Audi RS6 Avant Performance

At the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, Audi unveiled the 2016 S8 Plus, a beefed-up sedan with 605 horsepower at its disposal and a 0-to-62 sprint that leaves behind not only the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, but also prominent sports cars such as the Aston Martin Vanquish or the BMW M4. As we move closer to 2016, Audi took the same drivetrain and dropped it in the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. Unlike the S8, however, the RS6 and RS7 didn’t receive a “Plus” badge. Instead, they were launched using “Performance” monikers.

Naming aside, the RS6 Avant Performance marks the return of Audi’s high-performance wagon after an 11-year hiatus. Offered in a limited run between April and September 2004, the RS6 Plus had an engine that was developed and manufactured by Cosworth and took to the streets with an impressive 476 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque on tap.

More importantly, the RS6 Performance arrives ten years after Audi discontinued the RS2 Avant, the brand’s first RS-badged vehicle. The RS2 was co-developed with Porsche, and its turbocharged, five-cylinder engine generated 315 horsepower. A little more than a decade has passed since then and Audi’s high-performance wagon has nearly doubled its output. Find out more below.

Updated 11/16/2015: Audi dropped a first promo video for its latest RS6 Avant Performance. Enjoy!

PostHeaderIcon Official: Audi RS Performance – RS6 and RS7

Audi RS Performance-0

The horsepower war between German car makers is now turned into a somewhat cold war and Audi has done something that amounts to moving nuclear warheads to the opponents’ borders. They have just launched the Audi RS Performance versions of the RS6 and RS7 with 605 horsepower.

Now that might not sound a lot for you tuning junkies out there, but 605 horsepower from a standard factory car is pretty damn good by anyone’s standards. Audi RS Performance models use the same 4.0 TFSI engine as the normal models by 45 PS and 50 Nm to 605 PS and 750 Nm of torque, resulting in a 0 to 60 time of 3.7 seconds and top speed of 189mph. Those numbers apply to both the RS6 and RS7 Performance models.

Audi RS Performance are also among the most efficient cars you can find in this class, although we find it hard to believe the Germans in this sense after the VW scandal. But Audi says that, thanks to measures such as Audi cylinder on demand (COD), you should be able to get up to 29.4mpg in the RS 6 Avant performance and 29.7mpg in the RS 7 Sportback performance.

Visually, Audi RS Performance are distinguished by a quattro logo on the air inlet duct and matt titanium-look detailing plus exclusive 21-inch wheels. Black and blue Alcantara and leather interior with super sport seats and inlays in carbon with blue thread are among the highlights of the interior.

Pricing for the Audi RS6 Performance starts from £86,000 in the UK while RS7 Sportback kicks off from £91,600.

Bagged Audi RS6-0

What you see here, ladies and gentlemen, is a bagged Audi RS6 finished in a unique shade of purple and fitted with a set of high-end ADV1 wheels. These features make it, quite possibly, the most unique RS6 in the world right now.

Of course, uniqueness alone does not guarantee greatness. A lot of people may find this bagged Audi RS6 a silly proposition that doesn’t look interesting and ruins the car’s image and practicality too. But those of us who are into tuning and modifying cars regardless of their class and price range will find this car really cool. The air suspension and the large wheels are changes we find worth the money and effort.

That said, we can’t help but think this has been an exercise in futility. The standard Audi RS6 in this awesome color is a cool enough car not to need any further modifications. OK, so they installed those ADV1 wheels and they are great. But the bagging treatment really is too much, especially as the bulk of the car make it an unsightly sigh slammed.

The wheels on this bagged Audi RS6 are ADV10 Track Spec SL in size 21×10 inch all around, finished in matte black.

PostHeaderIcon Olsson’s Audi RS6 DTM Torched by Car Thieves

Olsson Audi RS6 DTM Torch

The one-off Audi RS6 DTM wide body formerly owned by sports personality Jon Olsson was found burned to a crisp after it was stolen on Wednesday in the Netherlands. The car was nicked at gunpoint from its new owner and his cameraman during a video shoot.

Now, at first you might think the thieves were just unhappy with what Olsson had done with his Audi RS6 DTM and decided to teach him a lesson by burning the car; a hate crime of sorts. But no. The reason they torched the vehicle was because they shut the car down not realizing it has keyless go and the key fob was still with the owner. So they couldn’t restart the car after turning it off.

This is quite incredible, but also believable. Those thieves were thick enough to steal a car as well-known and as conspicuous as that 900 horsepower Audi RS6 DTM, so we can believe they were stupid enough not to realize the car has push button start and no key in it. It is a very sad thing, what they’ve done with the car. But at least they didn’t get to sell it or stripe it for parts. Olsson’t DTM-spec RS6 was reportedly sold for half a million dollar to its new owner.

PostHeaderIcon Audi RS6 C6 Bagged on Vossen Wheels

Audi RS6-Vossen-0

There is something fast wagons that is really exciting. Maybe it’s the very idea of taking a big, practical family car and turn it into a brutal speed machine. These cars also respond well to extreme modifications, as this bagged Audi RS6 C6 clearly shows.

The C6 generation Audi RS6 has a distinct look that is still nice and fresh, even though a newer version has been around for a while now. But the coolest thing about this model is the fact that it boasts a V10 Lamborghini-derived engine with 580 hp and 650 Nm of torque. That is just insane, which is probably why Audi switched to a V8 in the next generation.

As for this bagged Audi RS6, it features custom air suspension and a set of Vossen Forged VPS-309 wheels in Candy Red. The unique finish of the wheels is contrasted with a gunmetal grey wrap and blacked-out grilled and emblems. So one thing this car is not anymore, for sure, is practical. It is also not as discreet as it used to be. But it is a helluva lot cooler and that is fine by us!
