PostHeaderIcon 10 fun coupes with enough space for your golf clubs

Whether it’s a quick jaunt to the driving range, or an entire Sunday spent on the links with your friends, it’s important to have the right ride to get you and your gear to the golf course without a fuss. As such, the big luxury automakers out there offer a range of two-door coupes with enough space in the rear to transport your clubs, bag, and whatever else you need for a round or two, all without sacrificing comfort in the cabin. But which of these is the best?

To find out, we took a look at all the big names on the market from the perspective of a golfer. First and foremost, the coupe in question has to have enough trunk space to carry at least one golf bag, assuming an average golf bag size of 36 inches by 14 inches by 10 inches, or 3 cubic feet, give or take. What’s more, we’re also considering style and appearance, as well as luxury and equipment features inside the cabin.

So then – arranged in no particular order, here’s our picks for the top 10 luxury coupes to take golfing.

PostHeaderIcon Check Out this Cool Acceleration Test Between a BMW 440i Gran Coupe and an Audi S5 Sportback

Our friends at AutoTopNL are back at it again, this time testing out some of Germany’s top four-door coupe’s in a battle of straight-line speed. Taking up the gauntlet this time around is the BMW 440i Gran Coupe xDrive and Audi S5 Sportback Quattro. Who will come out on top?

PostHeaderIcon Check Out This Audi S5 With Tesla Model S Power

Audi still doesn’t have an electric car — the R8 e-Tron doesn’t count — on the market, but that hasn’t stopped the aftermarket world from beating the German automaker to the punch. The Audi in question here is the S5, but it’s not really a factory unit, anymore. That’s because this S5 is now powered by the electric powertrain of a Tesla Model S donor car. This Audi S5 is now an electric car after undergoing a full EV conversion at the hands of noted New Jersey-based EV tuner, POLYKUP.

PostHeaderIcon Audi Shows Serious Side With New Super Bowl Commercial

Super Bowl LI is only four days away and as the days count down to the Big Game, we’re already seeing a rush of commercial releases from some of the biggest automakers in the world. Buick just released its new ad for the Cascada and Encore SUV. Lexus and Kia rolled out their ads a week ago, although the latter only released a short teaser of its full ad for Sunday. Then there’s Audi, whose commercials have been staples during the Super Bowl. The German automaker is once again making its presence felt for Super Bowl LI with a new commercial for the S5 Sportback that doesn’t really do much in highlighting the car.

The 60-second clip is called Daughters and unlike the celebrity routes that companies like Kia and Buick went to this year, Audi kept its ad close to the chest with a poignant message about gender equality among millions of people. It’s a curious choice to make, but Audi hasn’t been in shy using Super Bowl commercials to address social or civic issues in the past, so there’s a precedent there for the company to take this approach on Daughters.

The ad itself focuses on a young girl competing in a soap box derby against a group of boys as her father serves as the de facto narrator. Despite being subjected to underhanded tricks and all around mischief from her competitors, the young girl perseveres to take home the victory.

All the while, the father laments on the issues that his young daughter could face when she grows up in a world that still hasn’t embraced equality the way it should. But as the ad ends, his tone shifts to a more positive one as he starts hoping for a better world for his young daughter.

And, just as the ad ends, the S5 Sportback finally makes a quick cameo before the screen fades to black and Audi’s message of commitment “to equal pay for equal work” flashes on the screen.

PostHeaderIcon Audi S5

Being in the fold since 2007, it was about time for the Audi S5 to usher in a new generation, and it will do just that for the 2017 model year. With the new generation comes a new, wider front grille, larger corner air inlets on the front fascia, a more muscular hood, and new, thinner taillight units. Inside, the car has gone through a major revamp, sporting an updated instrument cluster, a new infotainment display that sits above the center stack, a new center console, and redesigned door panels. The S5 still sports a 3.0-liter, gasoline-powered engine, but for 2017 it’s been updated to deliver 354 horsepower – a 21-horsepower increase over the previous generation.

As always, the S5 shares a strong amount of its DNA with the Audi A5, but offers up significantly more power in an overall sportier package. As a model that competes with the likes of the BMW M4 and the Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe, Audi had to put in the wrench time to make sure the S5 is more competitive than ever. Part of that time was dedicated to developing an all-new chassis, revised aerodynamics, and shedding a little weight despite having a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model.

The things I’ve mentioned here are just the tip of the iceberg, so let’s go over all the fine details of the new S5 in my full review below.

Updated 06/03/2016: Audi dropped the official details on the new generation S5 Coupe.

PostHeaderIcon Audi S5 Cabriolet

The Audi S5 first appeared on the scene in 2007, initially dropping cover as a coupe alongside its more pedestrian sibling, the A5. Two years later, at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi introduced the S5 Sportback, a five-door model promising greater practicality in a still-sporty package, plus the open-air S5 Cabriolet, both of which went on sale for the 2010 model year. A mid-cycle refresh arrived in 2013, including new technology, styling, and powertrain updates. Now, it’s time for a new generation to take the reins, and as such, Audi has unveiled the 2017 S5 Cabriolet, rounding out the new A5 lineup with a sportier soft-top iteration of the compact luxury two-door. The next gen brings with it slightly larger dimensions, tweaked styling, a sleek interior packed with gadgets, a more powerful turbo six-cylinder, an updated rear suspension, and new systems for safety and convenience.

Being the best in this segment takes style and attitude, mixing the fun of unlimited headroom with a decent punch when you press on the loud pedal. Keeping up with the technological Jonses is also critical, with competition from Europe and Japan vying to impress in the cabin as well. Does the new S5 have what it takes to compete?

PostHeaderIcon Audi S5 Sportback

Meeting customer demands means taking aim at a constantly moving target, which can often lead to some interesting crossbreeding between the established automobile segments. The Audi S5 Sportback is one good example. Offering a nice mix of attractive exterior design, practicality, luxury, and performance, the S5 Sportback seeks to appeal to a sort of “jack-of-all-trades” mentality, circumventing a singular focus in favor of a broader charm. While European audiences have enjoyed the balancing act since 2010, those of us residing in the U.S. have been left out in the cold. Now, there’s a second generation on the horizon, and rumors are swirling that it’s coming stateside.

Essentially a sportier take on the A5 lineup, the S5 is offered in three body styles, with a two-door coupe and two-door convertible joining the aforementioned five-door liftback. The new S5 Sportback was previously caught doing some cold-weather testing in Sweden, but more recently, it was seen a little closer to home, poking around the roads adjacent to the Nurburgring, presumably on its way to or from a hot-lap session.

The new S5 Sportback is expected to debut sometime later this year, most likely in October at the Paris Motor Show. We’re still waiting on the official details from Ingolstadt, but until they surface, we’ve put together the following speculative review.

PostHeaderIcon Preview: Liberty Walk Audi S5

Liberty Walk Audi S5-prv-1

So Japanese tuner Liberty Walk is done celebrating the launch of their wide body Lamborghini Huracan at SEMA and is now focusing on other projects. Next they will release their wide Audi R8, after that a unique Maserati, and then after that one we get this, the awesome Liberty Walk Audi S5.

In many ways Liberty Walk Audi S5 is going to be a more popular proposition than the aforementioned model, mainly because it is based on a car that is more affordable and more accessible to a wider range of customers. So chances are in about year or so we are going to see more wide body S5s on the streets than R8s and Granturismos.

As you can see in these preview pictures, Liberty Walk Audi S5 wide body is getting a full treatment complete with the signature bolt-on fenders, custom fenders, skirts, and aero kit consisting of a massive front splitter and a really cool ducktail rear spoiler. Presumably, you can order this kit for the high-performance Audi RS5 as well. Official launch is scheduled for Tokyo Auto Salon 2016.

As is the case with all LB-Performance cars, the S5 will also get an Airrex air suspension, a set of ultra wide wheels and tires, and maybe even a sickeningly loud exhaust system as well. If you are going for that kind of width, you may as well go all the way and get all the goodies.

Senner Tuning Audi S5 A5-0

German tuner Senner has come up with a new upgrade package that covers two of the hottest mid-range Audi models, the S5 Coupe and the A5 Sportback. With help from Oxigin wheels, Senner Tuning Audi S5 and A5 get some nice new shoes, uprated suspension, and a substantial power upgrade.

Senner offers two separate power kit for the most popular engines for these Audis. For the 3.0 TDI diesel engine in the Sportback (standard 245 PS / 500 Nm) they have a software upgrades that results in a jump to 302 PS and 615 Nm, whereas the V6 petrol engine in the S5 Coupe gets a Kompressor (supercharger) upgrade the net result of which is 446 PS and 511 Nm – a good upgrade over the standard 333 PS / 440 Nm.

As for the upgrades both Senner Tuning Audi S5 and A5 Sportback share, they include a set of new Oxigin OX14 Oxroc wheels in sizes 9,5×20 on the front axle and 11×20 inch on the rear, shod with 255/30R20 and 305/25R20 Continental Sport Contact 5P tires, plus KW Variant 3 coilover suspension. The wheels are finished in polished black, but other colors are also available.

We should mention the wheel and suspension kit are also available for the RS5 model. In the gallery below Oxigin OX18 Concave wheels are featured as well, in case that’s the way you want to go with your Audi.

Having already launched the redesigned 2016 Audi Q7, 2016 Audi A4, and 2016 Audi R8, Audi has had quite a busy 2015 so far. And with so many new prototypes already on public roads, including the 2017 Audi Q5, 2016 Audi Q1, and the 2017 Audi A4 Allroad, Ingolstadt is likely to unveil many new products over the next 12 months. Set to arrive in U.S. dealerships for the 2018 model year, the S5 isn’t one of them, but the test car our paparazzi spotted in the wild recently confirm development is well underway.

The redesigned S5 will arrive to replace the first-generation model, which was introduced in 2007 for the 2018 model year. Initially powered by a 4.2-liter V-8 engine, the coupe received a supercharged, 3.0-liter V-6 with the 2012 facelift. The V-6 mill soldiered on unchanged until 2015, motivating not only the coupe, but the convertible and five-door Sportback models since 2009 as well. It’s not year clear whether the updated S5 Sportback will come to the U.S. in the future, but the S5 coupe and cabriolet are definitely crossing the pond for 2018.

Official details are obviously scarce right now, but the camouflaged prototype seen testing in Europe carries many hints as to what we will find in showrooms. Keep reading for the full rundown.

Bagged Audi S5-0

It seems that ‘bagging’ cars is fashionable again as we are seeing more and more of them these days. Not that they ever went out of fashion, because they really aren’t so popular as to become a trend. At any rate, if you like that bagged BMW 4 Series we showed you a few days ago, you will probably find this bagged Audi S5 just as cool.

Bagging, of course, is an extreme treatment favored by a few. Frankly it’s a stupid thing to do to a car, and expensive too. But you can deny that aesthetically they are marvelous. Petrolheads unanimously agree that the lower a car is to the ground, the better it looks. And you can’t really get much closer to the ground than by bagging your car.

In order to successfully bagging your car you first need a proper air suspension system. It’s a complex mod intended for the tuning world’s heavy hitter and not suitable for the faint-hearted. Then you have to look for a set of wheels that not only works with the lowered ride height, when the suspension is collapsed, but look good too. A lot of baggers also buff up the wheel arches a bit to make sure the huge wheels won’t catch them on the move.

The wheels on this bagged Audi S5 come from European tuner mbDESIGN. The KV1 10,5×20″ DC rims look pretty cool inside those flared fenders, but on their own they will rob you of nearly 3,500 Euros.
