PostHeaderIcon BMW M3 CS on the Books for 2018

Earlier in 2017, we saw BMW launch a new limited-edition M4. It’s called the CS and slots between the standard M4 and the track-ready GTS. Essentially a GTS without the massive wing, the CS also marked the return of the famous badge that BMW used in the 1960s and 1970s. Not surprisingly, the M4 CS was very popular with BMW enthusiasts, which is why the German brand is also considering a sedan version. Naturally, it will be called the M3 CS.

The beefed-up M3 is not yet official, but the folks over at German outlet Bimmer Today claim that the four-door CS will arrive sometime in 2018. The source also says that the M3 CS will share underpinnings with its M4 counterpart, meaning that it will hit the street with the upgraded twin-turbo, six-cylinder engine rated at 460 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. This output will make the CS the most powerful M3 ever, placing it above the legendary E92-generation M3 GTS, which had 444 horses on tap. What’s more, it should be a tad quicker than the standard M3 with a 0-to-62 sprint of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph.

PostHeaderIcon All BMW Brought To New York Was A Set Of Wheels

All things considered, I’d argue the 2017 New York International Auto Show turned out to be pretty decent. The list of debuts ended up including stuff that’s fast, stuff that’s fancy, and a few things that are actually kinda weird. Nevertheless, a few of the automakers in attendance didn’t really bring their A-game for 2017, including BMW. You see, the only new stuff propped up at the Bimmer booth this year was a couple sets of upgraded wheels.

That said, they are pretty nice wheels. First up are large multi-spoke rollers finished in silver and fitted to a BMW M4 Convertible. The silver color is nicely complemented by the drop-top’s Yas Marina Blue exterior, filling the flared fenders with purpose. Get them as part of the optional Competition Package.

Then there are dark, split five-spoke wheels shown on a scorching Austin Yellow M3. Finished in black, these rollers look awesome alongside the dark-colored trim on the sporty four-door, and come offered in a variety of sizes between 19 and 20 inches in diameter. The Bavarians call them 763M, and they come direct from the brand’s M tuning division.

PostHeaderIcon BMW Brings New M Performance Parts To Essen Motor Show

As the calendar year draws to an end, the Essen Motor Show comes to conclude the year of European motor shows with numerous tuning, motorsport, and track-race production models. The organizers expect more than 300,000 visitors to come to the exhibition halls at Essen’s Grugapark, which will have a wide array of cars and aftermarket products on display, including many from BMW.

The German automaker will bring its latest M Performance parts to Essen, as well as eight vehicles, including the M240i Convertible and the M2 Safety Car. The public will also be able to demonstrate their racing talent at the “DTM M4 Driving Simulator” by following in the tracks of Marco Wittmann, the newly crowned DTM champion.

As for the actual performance parts, BMW will introduce a handful of upgrades for the M3 and M4. First up, there’s carbon rear wing made entirely of carbon-fiber with the struts sporting M motorsport stripes in blue, red, and violet, and “Performance” lettering on the sides of the blade. The coupe and sedan will also get an M Performance suspension that will enable drivers to adjust ride height between five and 20 mm (0.2 and 0.8 inches) via a spring plate on the front and rear spring struts. The coil springs are painted red for a motorsport-inspired look. Both the carbon wing and the suspension system will be offered starting summer 2017.

The M3 and M4 will also get something new under the hood. Unfortunately, I’m not talking about power upgrades, but the new carbon engine cover should make a few enthusiasts happy. Made from hand-crafted, high-quality carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, it will give the M3 and M4 a race-inspired look under the lid.

The BMW booth will also showcase the brand’s new M Performance Accessories, including an Alcantara steering wheel with carbon trim and race display, gear selector lever and carbon handbrake grip with Alcantara bellows, 19-inch, double-spoke 405 M Bicolour alloy wheels, black matt rear diffuser, and carbon tailpipe trims. All these parts will be exhibited on an upgraded M240i Convertible model.

PostHeaderIcon A New Round Of Recalls Are Coming For Certain BMW M Models

Recalls are a hassle, but when one recall leads to another recall, that’s when things get annoying. Unfortunately, that’s the predicament certain owners of the BMW M2 Coupe, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupe, and M4 Convertible are now facing after BMW North America announced a new round of recalls for 2015 to 2017 model years of the aforementioned models, all because BMW dealerships messed up on a repair involving the rear differential during a previous recall last January 2016.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), BMW dealers used the same rear sub-frame bolts to replace the rear differential on the M cars. The problem with that is that these bolts were designed to be used only as one-time-use fasteners, as per the automaker’s own vehicle assembly process. If they’re used more than once, there’s a good chance that the “clamp force may not be achieved when torquing down the bolts,” resulting in the possibility of them loosening as they wear out. When that happens, the car’s handling and control could be compromised, which could then lead to the possibility of a crash taking place.

All told, 66 units are potentially affected by the new recall, including five M2 Coupe made from May 31 to June 20, 2016; 32 M3 Sedans manufactured from June 17, 2014 to June 13, 2016; 26 M4 Coupes built from May 2, 2014 to June 14, 2016; and three M4 Convertibles assembled from May 29, 2015 to May 27, 2016. Fortunately, no incidents have been reported concerning the condition of the affected models.

It must be said though that the NHTSA has absolved BMW dealerships of any blame for the fresh round of recalls. Apparently, BMW didn’t give specific instructions to use new rear sub-frame bolts, which could’ve led to dealership engineers using the same bolts to replace the differential.

The recall is expected to begin on October 24, 2016. In the days leading up to it, BMW will be notifying affected owners and certain dealerships of the impending recall. The latter is expected to replace the affected rear sub-frame bolts with new bolts without owners incurring any costs.

PostHeaderIcon Messing Metallic BMW M3 Individual by EAS

Messing Metallic BMW M3-0

BMW, as you know, offers some pretty amazing colors for the F80 M3 and M4 models as standard. But if you want your car to stand out, you have to check out the options available through their Individual service. There you’ll find amazing colors like the one featured here on this Messing Metallic BMW M3.

Despite the messy sounding name, the Messing Metallic BMW M3 is actually one of the coolest examples of the sports sedan we have seen. It helps that the car features a full M Performance aero kit with a massive chin spoiler and rear diffuser and stuff, but the biggest highlight is that unique color which is a shade of green, we reckon, inspired by the color of German counterterrorism police uniform!

This Messing Metallic BMW M3 is tweaked by European Auto Source for audio specialist Bavsound, featuring their speaker upgrade. What this car lacks, based on what we see in the pictures, is an M Performance Akrapovic exhaust system with carbon tips instead of the steel on it currently has, and maybe a set of wheels from a high-end brand. Performance-wise, you don’t really have to do much to the M3 as it already is powerful enough with a 430 horsepower straight-six turbo engine.

PostHeaderIcon BMW Talks About The Fifth Generation M3: Video

In 2013, BMW introduced the F80 M3, the fifth-generation of its most iconic sports coupe. For the first time, the compact M car was split into two models wearing distinct badges. While the sedan continued to wear the M3 tag, the two-door ditched the M3 Coupe moniker in favor of the M4.

But, that wasn’t the only important change that came with the new generation.

The Germans also put an end to the V-8-powered M3, opting to replace the naturally aspirated unit with a twin-turbo, inline-six in the new M3 and M4. The switch was made in order to improve fuel economy and alleviated by lighter cars. As it is always the case with such radical changes, the downsizing was received with mixed feelings. Not surprisingly, most M3 enthusiasts criticized the move, claiming that the nameplate has been stripped of its heritage.

Nearly three years have passed since the new M3/M4 entered production, and both the coupe and sedan have already received their mid-cycle facelifts. BMW is already working on the next-generation model, but until the sixth-generation arrives, Munich has put together a four-minute video that looks back on the challenges it had to overcome in developing the fifth-gen cars. The brand also talks about the M3/M4’s successful DTM campaign, as well as the more recently introduced M4 GTS. If you’re a BMW fan, this is a video you shouldn’t miss!

PostHeaderIcon MR Car Design BMW M3 Clubsport (E90)

MR BMW M3 Clubsport-0

The E90 BMW M3 still has a huge fanbase, and they seem to be growing as prices for this model drop further and further down. That enables the M3 lovers to have their cars tuned and do all sort of wonderful things to them. This BMW M3 Clubsport by MR Car Design is the result of one such effort.

The German tuner has taken a professional approach with this car, focusing on improving the M3’s track capabilities rather than blindly increase the horsepower. MR Car Design BMW M3 Clubsport gets a modest power boost – through software optimization and Evo exhaust system – to 450 horsepower and 430 Nm. The real highlight of this car is the chassis and the way it corners.

MR’s BMW M3 Clubsport gets a set of black coated lightweight forged wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires in 245/35-19 on front and 265/35-19 on the rear axle. They work in tandem with a pair of spacers (10 mm on the front and 15 mm on rear axle), and KW variant 2 coilovers complete with H&R stabilizer kit and Stoptech braking system.

The end result is an absolute track monster. The tuner has also fitted the car with Wiechers rollover bar and Schroth safety belts, and painted some M racing colors on the exterior.

Silverstone Hamann BMW M3-0

The guys at DS Automobile & Autowerke GmbH have done a lot of wonderful things with Hamann tuning parts so far. And now they have added yet another gem to their collection with this Silverstone Metallic Hamann BMW M3 sedan.

Silverstone Metallic is a F80 M3/M4 color that hasn’t really got the love it deserves, what with all the other cool and vibrant colors BMW offers for these models. But if you want a paint work that is both eye-catching and classy, this luxurious shade of silver is the one to go for.

As for what DS has done to this Hamann BMW M3, the modifications are as subtle as that color. The car gets a carbon fiber front spoiler, gloss black kidney grilles, mirror caps, and exterior accents, and Hamann rear diffuser insert with new tailpipes which belong to a sport exhaust system, itself part of a power kit that boosts the output of the S55 engine to 520 horsepower and reduces the 0-100 time to 4.0 seconds dead.

Silverstone Hamann BMW M3-00

But perhaps the biggest highlight of this Hamann BMW M3 is a set of gunmetal grey Hamann Anniversary Evo wheels. The large 21-inch rims fill up the car’s fenders beautifully thanks to professional suspension lowering and play a major part in giving the car that sporty appearance.

PostHeaderIcon BMW M3 & M4 Competition Package

BMW’s M3 sedan, M4 coupe, and M4 convertible have always been highly regarded and more than good enough to satisfy the craving for luxury and performance buyers in one package. Those models, however, are about to be offered with a new optional package dubbed the “Competition Package.” But, before we dive too much into what this new package offers for the M3 sedan, M4 coupe, and M4 convertible, let’s take a quick look back at the models.

It doesn’t take much to explain the M3. It was introduced back in 1985 and has seen several generations, including induction into the E36, E46, E90, E92, and E93 generations of the 3 Series. It is also the only car that has earned more titles in Motorsport than the Porsche 911. The M3 coupe and convertible are long gone, but the sedan carries the name on, and we’re excited to see BMW is still offering up new packages for the 21-year-old name.

When the M4 came to be in 2014, BMW ceased production of the M3 coupe and convertible in favor of having the M4 coupe and convertible instead. This gave the M3 sedan a series all its own, with the M4 carrying on the M legacy, but like the refreshed M3 sedan, it is powered by an inline six-cylinder engine that pumps out 431 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The change over to a turbocharged six wasn’t all that unwelcome, though, as the engine puts out an additional 17 horsepower and 111 pound-feet of torque more than the outgoing V-8 in the M3. BMW also claims better efficiency with a 25-percent improvement in fuel economy.

So, what does this new Competition Package offer for this trio? Well, I’m glad you asked. Take a short walk down the page with me as we look into these packages and how they make the M3 and M4 that much better.

PostHeaderIcon BMW Puts The Spotlight On The Third-Generation M3: Video

BMW’s continuing series about the history of the M3 has now reached its third chapter, with the spotlight now being placed squarely on the third-generation model, the E46 M3. Launched in 2000, the E46 M3 continued the tradition laid down by one of its predecessors, specifically the first-generation E30. Whereas the second-gen E36 was more of an understated model, the third-generation E46 M3 returned to the performance purity that the first-gen E30 was known for.

Suffice it to say, BMW put a lot of work on the model to differentiate it from the first two versions. From the technical side to the development side, the E46 M3 introduced a lot of new concepts that a lot of BMW’s M models continue to use to this day. That, in a nutshell, is the legacy of the E46. It wasn’t the first M3 to roll out of the block, but as far as leaving a lasting imprint on the name, it still stands as one of the most important performance models BMW has ever built.

The popularity of the E46 M3 was evident from the get-go. In the course of its seven-year life, BMW built 85,744 units of the model, easily eclipsing the 71,242 units of the E36 M3. The BMW M3 is arguably the most popular performance model BMW has ever created and the E46 M3 has a lot to do with that.

It’s been gone for 10 years now, but the legacy it started continues to this day. I can’t imagine a higher praise to be given to a car.

PostHeaderIcon BMW M3 RS E9X By G-Power

Ever since G-Power was founded in 1983, the German tuner has been responsible for some of the most impressive BMW tuning programs. Along the way, G-Power has also established itself as a perennial record-breaker, having collected seven world records under its belt, including the fastest LPG-powered car (207 mph) with the 660-horsepower M5 Hurricane GS; the fastest 1 Series (205 mph) with the 600-horsepower G1 V8 Hurricane GS; and the fastest BMW sedan (224 mph) with the 730-horsepower M5 Hurricane.

As the calendar flips to 2016, G-Power is celebrating the new year with the introduction of its latest tuning masterpiece, the M3 RS E9X. The program itself is not based on the current generation M3 sedan, but rather the departed coupe model that has since been replaced by the M4. But, even if the model is already out of production, the German tuner still created an impressive aerodynamic and performance modification program for the scores of owners still holding on to their beloved M3s.

Like most of G-Power’s kits, the M3 RS E9X program focuses on cutting down the model’s weight and giving it an significant engine tune. The former was accomplished by the installation of a carbon fiber aerodynamic kit while the latter got its massive performance improvement thanks to the tuner’s renowned SK III supercharger system. The results gives the M3 the kind of power and performance that only a tuner like G-Power can provide.

You can’t really go wrong with 740 horsepower on tap, can you?

PostHeaderIcon BMW Details The First Generation M3: Video

This holiday season, BMW is looking back to the beginning of the M3. It all started with the E30 M3, which – as BMW puts it – is the most successful touring car to date. The video you’re about to watch is the first of what I assume are many, as the M3 badge has gotten placement on the E36, E46, E90-series and F-80 chassis.

During this video, BMW places focus on what made the M3 so great, and the accomplishments it made after its introduction. I won’t ruin the whole video for you, but you’ll be pleased to see various cuts of the M3 on the track and on display, as well as hear some of what made the car as legendary as it is. Of course, there are haters out there who didn’t like the car, but the numbers don’t lie. The car was epic by just about any standard, and some argue no M-car since has lived up as a predecessor to the M3.

The coolest fact about the M3 is how desirable it quickly became. Even BMW salespersons were skeptical of the ability to meet the homologation requirement of producing 5,000 in a 12-month time frame, but the M3 was so desirable that BMW ended up building over 18,000. That is one fun fact from the video, but there is plenty more, so get watching. We’ll be keeping our eye out for the next installment that will likely cover the E46 generation. Enjoy the video!

BMW M3 Lime Rock-Sale-0

Even though BMW M fanboys stopped fancying the E90 series as soon as the new F80 M3 and M4 came out, there are still those who prefer a V8-powered E92 M3 to the new turbocharged models. Those guys are going to flip when they realize there is a BMW M3 Lime Rock Limited Edition up for grabs at European Auto Source.

The reason BMW M3 Lime Rock edition is kind of a big deal is because, for starters, it is a limited edition of just 200 units. It has a numbered plaque and limited edition decals and everything. What’s more, the Lime Rock M3 comes in a very special Fire Orange exterior color and a number of visual and performance mods that make the whole thing the stuff of wet dreams for M fans.

Visually, this Fire BMW M3 Lime Rock is equipped with carbon fiber M Performance front splitter and trunk spoiler, as well as optional Jet Black 19-inch alloy wheels. The car also comes with “Lime Rock Park Limited Edition M3 Coupe” on the rear window and “M3 Lime Rock Park Edition, Created in Limited Numbers by BMW M GmbH, ONE of 200” plaque on the center console. Speaking of the interior, it features an M Performance Alcantara steering wheel with blue accents.

Performance-wise, the 420 horsepower M3 Lime Rock is equipped with KW Variant 3 suspension system and a full Akrapovic exhaust system with carbon fiber tips.

PP Exclusive BMW M3-0

When German tuner PP Exclusive decided to come up with something to show off their new deep concave forged wheels, they immediately of the Liberty Walk wide body kits. So they put together this cool PP Exclusive BMW M3 Wide Body you see here, and it does the job brilliantly.

The main reason for choosing an LB-Performance treatment for this project was because only these kits are extreme enough, and have fenders large enough, to accommodate PP’s huge new wheels. The M3 here is fitted with a set of 11 x 20 inches wheels on the front axle shod with 285 section tires, and 13 x 20 inches rims with 325 tires on the rear axle. They fit those fenders perfectly thanks to KW ClubSport Coilover suspension system.

As for the kit itself, PP Exclusive BMW M3 E92 gets a full Liberty Walk package with custom front and rear bumpers, front splitter, rear diffuser, ducktail rear wing, side skirts and custom sills, and of course, the all-important bolt-on fender extensions. The black paint job does obscure the sheer lunacy of the kit a bit, but they have equipped it with an Akrapovic exhaust system with X-pipe and carbon tailpipes, so the sound will make up for that.
