BMW is going to launch an all-new generation of its larger coupe-styled X6 SUV (which it calls SAC, short for Sport Activity Coupe) and, as with the current model, it will also be available as a hot X6M with the full Motorsport treatment.

That means it will be powered by a development of the current 4.4-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 that powers the M5, although it’s been suggested it may get more power, while from a visual standpoint, expect it to look like an X6 on steroids, with bold flared wheel arches, aggressive bumpers, side skirts and rims, as well as the trademark exhausts in the back.

PostHeaderIcon BMW X6

With the BMW X5 finally making its debut, it’s time to start thinking about the next-generation of the X6, a model that is essentially the X5 but with that coupe-style roof. With the current X6 being on the market for just three years, we probably won’t see the new X6 until at least 2020, but you can bet BMW is already hard at work. And, thanks to these new renderings that fuse the X6’s coupe-like styling with the look of the new X5, we have a strong visual representation of what we can expect.

Update 06/29/2018: A BMW X6 Prototype was caught testing for the first time. Check out our spy shots section below to learn all about it.

PostHeaderIcon Which is Better: The Audi Q8, The BMW X6, or The Range Rover Sport?

Audi just extended its SUV lineup to include the Q8, essentially a sportier proposition to the utilitarian, wagon-like Q7. The new crossover marks Audi’s entry in the coupe-style market, a playground dominated by the BMW X6 since 2007. The segment also includes the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the boxier Range Rover Sport.

With a new player on the market, it’s natural to ask yourselves which one is better. We’re here to answer this question by comparing the Audi Q8 against the BMW X6 and the Range Rover Sport. We left the GLE Coupe out of the game simply because it’s based on a model that was launched all the way back in 2011 and a new-generation model is just around the corner.

PostHeaderIcon Wallpaper of the Day: 2016 BMW X6

The X6 isn’t exactly the most attractive vehicle on the market. It’s more like a weird, jacked up SUV that wants to be a coupe at the same time. Be that as it may, it won itself over on the market due, in part, to its look. Of course, when BMW debuted the original back in 2012, it didn’t exactly have any real competition to go against, but we’ll leave that story for another time. Regardless of its odd look and strange stance, it’s still a pretty cool ride if you’re able to shell out at least $63,000 before options. All of this aside, we’ve decided the X6 doesn’t really get enough love these days, so we’ve decided to make it our wallpaper of the day. As usual, we’ve picked out our favorite and given you a gallery to choose from just in case.

PostHeaderIcon BMW Releases Black Fire Editions For The X6 M And The X5 M

If there were ever two models that served as pioneers of their kind in their respective markets, the BMW X5 and the BMW X6 are as good examples as you can find. The X5 was introduced in 1999, becoming one of the first premium SUVs to hit the modern automotive market. 10 years later, the X6 followed suit, ushering in a new sub-segment that has come to be known as the coupe-SUVs. Today, both the X5 and X6 are still soldiering on, and BMW is doing its part to keep models fresh with the release of the X5 M and X6 M Black Fire Editions.

Developed specifically for the high-performance M versions of both models, the Black Fire Editions provide a more menacing visual profile for both the X5 M and X6 M. The upgrades included are more cosmetic in nature than anything else, highlighted by the use of a Sapphire Black Metallic paint finish on the SUVs’ bodywork. The black treatment is actually spread throughout, covering significant spaces in both the exterior and interior. The end result certainly speaks to how Bimmer intended these two SUVs to turn out as both special edition models look about as sinister as anything we’ve seen from either of them in the past.

PostHeaderIcon BMW X6 M Typhoon By G-Power

If you ranked the tuning programs for the BMW X6 M, few would probably argue that G-Power’s Typhoon kit ranks among the best of them. The German tuner’s widely recognized program for the German coupe-SUV has continued to provide thrills for those who avail of it. The latest iteration promises to do more of that as G-Power is offering an output increase of 750 horsepower and 723 pound-feet of torque. You don’t need to be an auto engineer to know that 750 ponies means serious business, no matter the car.

But let’s not get caught up with G-Power’s engine program for the X6 M. It’s impressive by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just not the only thing impressive about the Typhoon kit. The program also comes with a wide body kit that includes the tuner’s iconic carbon fiber Venturi hood. Oh, and let’s not forget about the wheels. True to form, G-Power is also offering a variety of wheel choices, including an exclusive option that’s somehow considered an upgrade over the already impressive lineup of wheels that the tuner is offering.

It goes without saying that tuners don’t always live up to the expectations of aftermarket customers. But if there’s a BMW tuner that has earned its reputation over and over again, it’s G-Power. By sheer record alone, it’s hard to argue against G-Power’s place in the hierarchy of BMW tuners.

PostHeaderIcon BMW X6 M "MHX6 700" By Manhart

The BMW X6 M may suffer from an identity crisis, but nobody’s going to knock for being a performance paperweight. The truth is, the X6 M is very powerful. It’s also very fast and that more than compensates for the model’s aesthetic confusion. German tuner Manhart sees it differently though. In its mind, the X6 M’s 575-horsepower and 553-pound-feet of torque output numbers doesn’t quite cut the mustard. So it did what any aftermarket tuning company would do in a similar situation. It prepared a program for the high-performance X6 M, the likes of which gives the SUV a pretty significant overhaul.

Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? This kit packs a lot of punch. Plenty of it in fact. Manhart did its homework by giving the X6 M’s 4.4-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine a significant overhaul to get its output up to the level of what’s normally given to supercars. Not only that, the program also features some aftermarket work on the exterior, a revamped interior, and a new set of wheels.

Granted, it’s not the only program available in the market for the X6 M. But for the things that Manhart did to the coupe-SUV, it might as well be one of the most polished kits out there. At the end of the day, these programs can only do so much to improve the base car. But what Manhart did was give the X6 M an identity that fits into its sporty and aggressive nature. Sometimes, that’s all a car needs.

PostHeaderIcon BMW X6 Falcon By AC Schnitzer

Ever since it was established in 1987, the aftermarket tuning company AC Schnitzer has built a reputation as one of the preeminent BMW tuners in the business. With the possible exception of Alpina, no other aftermarket tuning shop is as closely associated to Bavaria’s finest models as AC Schnitzer. That cache has been with the German tuner for years and it’s that same cache that was on full display at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show where AC Schnitzer presented the Falcon program for the BMW X6.

Like most of its projects, AC Schnitzer focused its attention on three important element of the X6: the exterior, suspension, and engine. Each of these three sections were given comprehensive modifications with each part complementing the other two and vice versa.

That’s where the genius of the tuner manifests itself. AC Schnitzer’s blueprint in building the perfect kit involves a unique interplay between all the moving parts of the program, thus creating an overarching improvement on all facets of the SUV. That’s what this Falcon program offers for owners of the X6, and if I’m to be honest, it’s arguably one of the most rounded kits AC Schnitzer has built for the coupe-SUV.

Considering how many that’s been, those words are high praise.

AC Schnitzer BMW X6 Falcon-0

A while back we showed you German tuner AC Schnitzer’s take on the high-performance BMW X6M. Now the owners of the regular version too can have an AC Schnitzer BMW X6 thanks to a thorough upgrade package called the Falcon.

The Falcon treatment gives the Sport Activity Coupe not only a more sporty appearance, refined interior, and tighter chassis, it also include power upgrade kits for all the engines in the range. AC Schnitzer BMW X6 Falcon range begins with the 30d model which is upped from 258 hp to 309 hp, and continues with 40d boosted from 313 hp to 360 hp, 35i from 306 hp to 360 hp, and X6 50i from 450 hp to 525 hp. The upgrades are the result of a new power module for the ECU and sport exhaust system which comes with various tailpipe designs.

AC Schnitzer BMW X6 Falcon-00

As for the looks, AC Schnitzer BMW X6 Falcon gets a 10-piece wide body kit consisting of AC Schnitzer front skirt, bonnet vents (with optional Chrome Design elements), carbon mirror cover, rear wing in the export version, rear diffusor, carbon rear skirt insert (X6 M) and rear skirt film, plus a carbon rear wing, complemented with a set of 22-inch double spoke AC1 wheels BiColor or matt anthracite. You have other choices for the wheels and you can also order a suspension lowering kit. Last but not least, AC Schnitzer offers interior goodies for the Falcon such as aluminium pedal set, foot rest, keyholder and velours foot mats.

PostHeaderIcon Custom BMW X6 with Hamann Kit and Forgiato Wheels

Custom BMW X6-0

Even though BMW has given us an all-new X6 sport activity coupe, many of those who like a big, handsome, but impractical SUV still prefer the first generation of the car. There is something about those looks that just doesn’t get old. This custom BMW X6 shows you why the oldie is still a goodie.

So here’s the deal: instead of blowing up a large pile of cash on a brand-new BMW X6, which is frankly not as pretty as the old model, you go out and find a nice and clean second hand model with low mileage and full service history. Then by going custom you cover up the wrinkles, as it were, and end up with a fantastically cool and expensive-looking car that is a joy to live with.

This particular custom BMW X6 has been fitted by Phantom Motorsport with a full Hamann wide body kit consisting of front and rear fender extensions, custom side skirts, revised front and rear bumper with exclusive front spoiler lip and rear diffuser featuring integrated central tailpipe. A roof spoiler and a tailgate wing, plus a sport vented hood, are among the other features. The kit is then complemented with a set of 22-inch Forgiato Martellato wheels in matte black.

PostHeaderIcon Gallery: Lumma BMW X6 Looks Dope in Black

Lumma BMW X6-Black-0

A few days ago we showed you a few pictures of the new Lumma BMW X6 CLR X6 R body kit in its final production form. That car was white and garnished with a bit too much sporty paraphernalia. The CLR we have for you here though is finished in what we like to call Gangsta Black!

It doesn’t come as a surprise that this Lumma BMW X6 looks so gangsta, since it was put together by TopCar. And as you might know, TopCar is the official supplier of high-end custom cars for the leading lights in the Russian mafia and, we suspect, oligarchs and business people.

The design of the CLR X6 R is such that it looks its best in a sober and dark color like this. If you put bi-color accents and stripes on it, as was the case with the previous CLR we showed you, it looks sportier for sure, but it also loses some that sheer coolness. The combination of the new front bumper with the X6’s large headlights and blacked-out grille, wide fenders, and spoiler lip, gives Lumma BMW X6 a magnificently aggressive look.

The same is true about the rear end of the car, where the dark paint finish blends in the tailgate spoiler, new rear diffuser, and the unique tailpipes to create a uniform look that is cool and one of a kind. Lumma as gone for their wheels for this vehicle and they look amazing, but TopCar also supplies ADV1 wheels if you like something more high-end.

Lumma BMW X6-white-0

Lumma Design is showing off their latest styling kit for the latest BMW X6 in a new color. The Mineral White Metallic Lumma BMW X6 is sporting the CLR R kit which is one of the most thorough styling packages available for the German SUV.

What sets this Lumma BMW X6 apart from the others and make it look much sportier is the combination of the white paint job, red and black accents and stripes, carbon fiber details such as front kidney grilles and mirror caps, and a set of large Lumma wheels in gloss black.

The CLR R X6 kit itself consists of completely new bumpers with mesh grille, LED lights and spoiler lip at the front and diffuser and new tailpipe arrangement at the back, fender flares, side skirts, and rear tailgate spoiler. There is also a new vented bonnet and a fair few Lumma badges adding to the visual appeal of this beast.

Lumma always provides interior upgrades as well, with stuff like carbon, Alcantara and high-end leather. But check with them if you also want a performance boost. This car is based on the xDrive50i model, so alternatively you could get the 560 horsepower X6M and have it fitted with this styling kit.

G-Power BMW X6 M50d-0

In their latest tuning project German firm G-Power has upgraded a super diesel version of the latest BMW X6. It consists of a power module that gives G-Power BMW X6 M50d an extra 74 hp and 130 Nm of torque, which is a modest upgrade by G-Power’s standard.

The power kit for G-Power BMW X6 M50d comes in two G-POWER D-Tronik 5 V1 power module and D-Tronik 2 V1 ECU remap versions, each of which boosts the output of the diesel engine to 455 hp (335 kW) and 870 Nm of torque. The system remains inactive under partial load to help with the fuel economy. G-Power hasn’t tested the performance yet, but they say the top speed is “in accordance” with the extra oomph.

Visually, G-Power BMW X6 M50d only gets a set of ultra-light HURRICANE RR forged alloy wheels. These are sized 11.0×23-inch and shod with 305/25 ZR23 high performance tires. Available in Jet Black”, “Gun Metal Grey” and “Stardust Silver” and featuring diamond cut finish, the wheels have enough visual impact for this X6 not to need any further modifications. But the tuner throws in a little extra something in form of an orange engine cover!

PostHeaderIcon Lumma BMW X6 CLR Detailed in New Gallery

Lumma BMW X6-detail-0

We have already introduced the new Lumma BMW X6 F16 to you in a separate post. Now, courtesy of TopCar, we can bring you a detailed look at the CLR X6 R styling kit. In this gallery you get to see every nook and cranny and decide if this is the right kit for your X6.

Before you hit the pictures though, let us recap very quickly what are the ingredients of the Lumma BMW X6 CLR package. At the front you get a revised bumper with some tasty air intakes and grille inserts, complete with a lip spoiler. Fender extensions are another highlight of the car, complemented with custom sills and skirts. At the back we have a new rear bumper with integrated diffuser and tailpipes, plus the roof and tailgate spoilers. The tailpipe arrangement is particularly interesting here.

Lumma also offers exclusive wheels for the X6 as well as a performance kit for the xDrive50i model good for 550 horsepower. No words on any interior treatment yet, but if you order yours from TopCar, these guys can hook yo up with some pretty sick stuff, including crocodile leather, real 24k gold, and pretty much whatever takes your fancy.

Lumma Design BMW X6-X6R-0

With every new fashionable BMW model, Lumma Design comes up with a styling kit that makes the car doubly stunning to look at. In the case of the new Lumma Design BMW X6, the kit is a wide body package called CLR X6R.

This package could be considered as an alternative to BMW’s own X6M, as Lumma also offers a performance upgrade kit for the X6 xDrive50i that boosts the power from 450 horsepower to 555 horsepower with 650 Nm of torque. Lumma Design BMW X6 CLR X6R also looks a lot better than what BMW offers with the X6M.

The wide body kit designed for this car consists of completely custom front and rear bumpers featuring a massive chin spoiler and large air intakes at the front and a rear diffuser with integrated centrally positioned stainless steel tailpipes, fender extensions, side skirts, rear spoiler and a sport bonnet.

Complementing the styling package on Lumma Design BMW X6 is a set of LUMMA CLR Racing in gloss or smoked black with the recommended size of 10.0J and 12.0J x 22-inch front and rear respectively. As for the interior, you get a full range of leather colours and complementary materials like Alcantara, with trim inserts in coloured carbon-fibre and wood. You can choose the design and the color combo.

PostHeaderIcon BMW X6 M In Action On The Race Track: Video

I’ll be honest here, I’m not a fan of the BMW X6. Not even when it comes with an M badge, even though that means it packs a 567-horsepower and 553-pound-feet V-8 powerplant. Call me crazy, but I simply don’t like its hunched appearance. On the other hand, my idea of an SUV revolves around the 1969 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, which is why I wouldn’t fancy an X6 even if BMW dropped a 2,000-horsepower engine in it. But that’s not to say I can’t appreciate BMW for its effort to make the X6 M the sportiest crossover out there, only slightly slower than the M4.

However, when BMW started bragging about how the second-gen X6 M is sports car in SUV guise, I began to wonder whether these claims are real or just PR talk. I guess BMW anticipated naysayers like me. It flew DTM race drivers Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann in to test the crossover at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas F1 track. Both drivers claim the X6 M handles quite well in the twisties, with Glock noting that it feels like a compact sports car. Wittmann, last year’s DTM Champion, said he reached cornering speeds of up to 105 mph in the X6 M, which is impressive for a crossover that weighs more than 5,000 pounds.

Click the play button above to watch the X6 M being put through its paces by two of motorsport’s most talented drivers.

PostHeaderIcon BMW X6 M with BMW M Performance Parts

After officially hitting public roads in 2008, the X6 was succeeded the following year by an M version from BMW’s performance tuning arm. Mixing the high stance and exterior dimensions of an SUV with the racer intent of a sports car, the X6 M flaunts its mass in the face of physics, relying on an enormous amount of power and clever suspension design to render obsolete any preconceptions of what a vehicle this size should be capable of.

Now, BMW M GmbH is offering original accessories for the customization of the exterior and interior, adding even more flair to the X6 M.

When it comes to Bimmer personalization, the aftermarket support is positively gargantuan, but these official products from BMW promise not only exacting fit and finish, but the preservation of the original factory warranty as well. BMW says the parts will even increase the car’s resale value. If you’re looking for a way to make your X6 M stand out from the crowd of fast SUVs, M Performance thinks it has the answer.
