PostHeaderIcon Is Cadillac’s Surprise EV Concept a Preview of the Next-Gen Cadillac Escalade?

A few days after identifying Cadillac as the brand that will spearhead its EV initiative, General Motors doubled down on that announcement by revealing a sketch design of an EV crossover concept that could point to its plans for Cadillac in the not-so-distant future. The design was unveiled at the Cadillac XT6’s launch party ahead of the 2019 North American International Auto Show. The General didn’t dive into the details behind its first electric vehicle, opting only to say that it will use an all-new skateboard electric platform and will come in either two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It’s also going to be a crossover, adding weight to the company’s renewed focus on crossovers and SUVs to drive the brand moving forward. That said, is it possible that this electric concept is actually a preview of the next-generation Cadillac Escalade?

PostHeaderIcon Cadillac Introduces the Not-So-Sporty Cadillac Escalade Sport Edition

Anxious to finally see a V-Sport version of the Cadillac Escalade in showrooms? Well, you’ll have to wait a while longer as Cadillac isn’t planning on one until the next-gen SUV arrives. However, the luxury brand just debuted the Cadillac Sport at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sadly though, it’s not as sporty as the badge suggests.

PostHeaderIcon Towing Capacity: 7 SUVs From 2016 that Can Tow the Most

When it comes to choosing an SUV, there are a number of different factors to consider. We often talk about power, performance, fuel economy, and design like they matter the most, and while it can be argued that they do, items like towing capacity, cargo space, and payload capacity are just as important as any of them. from 2016 that offer the best of these worlds. You might be surprised at what we found out.

PostHeaderIcon Cadillac Escalade

The fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade went into production in early 2014, and while it’s not exactly old, it’s a bit dated compared to the more modern Lincoln Navigator. But Cadillac is looking to fix that with a new-generation model that’s rumored to arrive in 2019.

The new Escalade was initially scheduled to arrive early next year, but development was slowed down by a late decision to ditch the solid rear axle in favor of an independent suspension. It seems that Cadillac finally decided to give the Escalade, its most profitable model, a proper makeover.

Unfortunately, the SUV will continue to share underpinnings with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, meaning that it will still use a truck platform. The good news is that GM is also preparing massive upgrades for its next-gen pickups, so the Escalade will be less of truck and more of an SUV. Most details are still under wraps, but let’s discuss what we already know about it, the latest rumors, as well as the rendering that our very own artist created.

PostHeaderIcon 6 American SUVs That Still Feature Body-on-Frame Construction

There once was a time when body-on-frame SUVs were common sights. But with the advent of unibody car-based bodies, we don’t see too many of the old body-on-frame SUVs anymore. There are still some SUVs in the market whose bodies and frames are two separate entities, so it’s not like you’re absent of any choices if this is the kind of SUV you want. The Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Wrangler, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Chevrolet Suburban are still considered body-on-frame SUVs, making them extremely useful in the outdoors. So what exactly do these six SUVs have to offer? Read on and find out.

PostHeaderIcon GM Offering As Much as $10,000 off the Escalade in Hopes Customers Will Forget About the New Lincoln Navigator

The battle lines are being drawn being General Motors and Ford. In the increasingly competitive SUV market, GM’s Cadillac brand will start offering $10,000 discounts to some current customers. The offer is an attempt to keep them from jumping ship to Ford and its hot-selling Lincoln Navigator SUV.

PostHeaderIcon Video of the Day: Watch This Cadillac Escalade Outrun a Camaro ZL1 1LE

Hennessey Performance is known for building over-the-top power upgrades for already quick performance vehicles. The company’s latest project is no different – an 800-horsepower Cadillac Escalade with its HPE800 package

Oh, and it’ll outrun a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE on an unprepped drag strip.

The video shows the run from multiple angles as the 5,700-pound, three-row SUV hooks up off the starting line and outguns the Camaro. The Caddy’s advantage is its hand-built, stroked 6.8-liter V-8 stacked with a supercharger. Matching its 805 horsepower at 5,500 rpm is an equally impressive 812 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Traction isn’t an issue thanks to its full-time 4WD system that provides a spin-free launch.

Here, in this one run, the Escalade pulls several car lengths on the Camaro. Now, it’s clear the 650-horsepower Camaro ZL1 1LE didn’t get a clean start off the line. The driver compensated for wheel spin at the line with less throttle, thereby not letting the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 give its full muscle. The Caddy just walked on by.

“The Caddy’s advantage is its hand-built, stroked 6.8-liter V-8 stacked with a supercharger.”

Hennessey Performance offers its HPE800 package for the Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon Denali, both with the 6.2-liter V-8. Nearly every conceivable part is removed from the engine block and replaced with high-performance parts. The crankshaft is replaced, along with the connecting rods and pistons, to create a stroked 6.8-liter engine. The cylinder heads are ported and fitted with upgraded valvetrain, and a new HPE camshaft is slid into the block.

The engine breathes through a 2.9-liter roots-style supercharger pumping out 10 psi of boost. 1.75-inch stainless steel long-tube headers dump into a performance exhaust system with dual tips.

Hennessey then upgrades the engine’s ECU to support the extra power before tuning the entire package on its in-house dyno – all while running 93-octane pump gas. The Texas-based tuning company covers its work with a one-year, 12,000-mile warranty, which is a small consolation for giving up the Escalade’s factory six-year, 70,000-mile powertrain warranty. Still, when throwing this much money at a vehicle, warranties probably aren’t a big consideration.

PostHeaderIcon Matte Orange Cadillac Escalade on Forgiato 26s

matte orange Cadillac Escalade-0

Talk about a unique take on the Escalade. This big, red, bulbous thing you see here is the result of a joint project between Forgiato wheels and Metro Wraps, based on an order from MrWheels shop. Even Forgiato themselves admit the matte orange Cadillac Escalade has too much “Florida flair” about it.

Then again, you wrap your huge SUV in such a brash color and then bolt on a set of 26-inch wheels, it is fair to assume you want to stand out. In that aspect, MrWheels’s giant matte orange Cadillac Escalade is a job well-done. Mind you, you can’t really drive this car outside Florida, as people will think many bad things about you. In Florida though, this probably looks understated next to all the gold cars driving around.

The boys at Metro Wrapz have done a pretty good job with the matte orange Cadillac Escalade. They always pay a lot of attention to details. So although you may not notice it, they have gone to the trouble of removing all the trims, accents and badges even to a perfect finish, and even took care to make room for the parking sensors. Their counterparts at Forgiato have also played their parts, coming up with a set of 26-inch Girare-ECL rims in matching colors.

PostHeaderIcon 2016 Cadillac Escalade V by Aspire Autosports

Aspire Cadillac Escalade-0

If you are looking for the ultimate luxury SUV, something that will blow any Range Rover and Porsche Cayenne out of the water, the boys at Aspire Autosports have just come up with something that might fit the bill. We are talking about a custom 2016 Cadillac Escalade V they have just finished upgrading.

Granted, Aspire’s Cadillac Escalade V may not have as much bells and whistles and technology features as a Range Rover, but luxury is not just about toys or capabilities. A lot of it is just sheer size and presence. And in that aspect, the Caddy is a head and shoulders, literally, above the British snob. What’s more, the Escalade enjoys a level of street cred – thanks to its starring role as the car of choice for gangsters and cool guys in movies and rap videos – that no other car in the world can match.

You also get a lot of ‘kit’ with Aspire Autosports 2016 Cadillac Escalade V. Based on a Platinum model, the car comes with a full entertainment package consisting of two head rest monitors plus a roof-mounted screen as well as a top-notch audio and infotainment system. It also has a K40 radar installation which is handy, considering it features a modified V8 engine featuring a large SLP Supercharger that boosts the output to 575 horsepower. It’s man-sized power for a man-sized car!

PostHeaderIcon Cadillac Escalade Rust Chrome by Metro Wrapz

Cadillac Escalade Rust Chrome-0

One of the coolest vehicles on display at this year’s Forgiato Fest was without a doubt Metro Wrapz’s Cadillac Escalade Rust Chrome. This is hands down the most unique wrap we’ve seen on this vehicle and one that can almost be called artistic.

The Rat Rod look is a fairly new trend in the world of car customization and its point it to make perfectly fine cars, often vintage exotics, look like they’ve been through a sand storm or a nuclear winter, or some crazy sh*t like that.

The thing is though, this treatment looks best on iconic classics or fancy sports car, precisely because they are the farthest thing from a nasty, radioactive piece of junk. An Escalade does not really look the part for a rat rod project. Still, the guys at Metro Wrapz have done a good job with the design of the wrap. The car does indeed looks like it has spent the whole of last month in the bottom of a river.

MW’s Cadillac Escalade Rust Chrome rides on a set of light blue Forgiato wheels and has its standard chrome grille and accents. It would nice if they’d given the rust treatment to those parts as well. But hey, there is always Stage 2!

PostHeaderIcon TAG Motorsport Cadillac Escalade Is a Luxury Tank!

TAG Motorsport Cadillac Escalade-0

Caddy Escalade is a car with celebrity status thanks to its starring role in many a rap video and also films and TV series such as Entourage. It is also a car with great potential for personalization, as you can see with this handsome matte grey TAG Motorsport Cadillac Escalade.

The Escalade is a car with an imposing presence due to its sheer size. But it is not, at least in standard form, what you call cool because it comes with an awful lot of blingy chrome stuff and wheels that, though huge, are nowhere near big enough for a car of such great stature. TAG Motorsport Cadillac Escalade addresses all these issues.

First off, the car was wrapped in a cool and stealthy matte gunmetal grey foil that suits the car beautifully and also complements the new flaps and side steps perfectly. Then the chrome bits were all blacked-out with a nice coat of matte black, and the windows got a moderate tint as well. The pièce de résistance of this treatment, however, is a set of ADV1 wheels.

Measuring 24 inch in diameter and 10 inch wide on all four corners, the ADV10R Deep Concave CS wheels on TAG Motorsport Cadillac Escalade are finished in matte black on the disc and gloss black lips to match the rest of the vehicle. Now, these are properly huge rims, but they still fail fill up the vast fenders of the Escalade completely.

PostHeaderIcon Cadillac Escalade Selling Like Hot Cakes – ATS And CTS Not So Much

It turns out that GM can’t build the Cadillac Escalade fast enough, as the huge demand has increased sales in January by 149 percent over last year. The opposite is happening with both the ATS and the CTS though, with Cadillac dealers offering huge discounts in order to get rid of old stock.

To give you an idea, a Seattle dealer is offering 2014 Cadillac ATS models at up to $12,000 off a sticker price that starts at $33,215 MSRP, while others are cutting as much as $17,500 off the sticker price for a 2014 CTS, which officially starts at $45,345 MSRP. On the other hand, the 2015 Cadillac Escalades – which start at a hefty $72,970 MSRP – are flying off the lots.

The GM truck factory where both the Escalade and its ESV version is manufactured alongside Chevrolet and GMC models, has been running on three shifts and weekend overtime for several months to keep up with the demand. That said, it seems that the ongoing plan of rebuilding the Cadillac brand may have encountered hiccups, as the hot-selling Escalade is not enough to increase the carmaker’s prestige and overall sales significantly.

Click past the jump to read more about Cadillac’s predicaments.
