PostHeaderIcon GFG Style Kangaroo – How the Hell is this an SUV?

Italdesign Giugiaro founder Georgette Giugiaro is back in the news with a new Geneva-bound concept called the GFG Style Kangaroo. Curious name notwithstanding, the Kangaroo is a futuristic interpretation of a jacked-up SUV with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. You can also describe it as a supercar with the ground clearance of an SUV. In a lot of ways, the Kangaroo is a multi-personality concept that can either be a performance car, an SUV, or a combination of the two. Confused? You’re not the only one. Fortunately, a little clarity is in order once the concept takes the stage at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show this week.

PostHeaderIcon Italdesign DaVinci Concept Showcases Gullwing Door Before Geneva Debut

Although it has designed only one mainstream car over the last decade, the Audi Q2 in 2017, Italdesign penned the Nissan GT-R50 limited edition and a few impressive concept cars in recent years. At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Italian firm will unveil yet another concept, a sleek grand tourer that goes by the name DaVinci.

PostHeaderIcon Toyota GR Supra GT4 Concept

The Supra name has been in a close-knit relationship with racing for decades, and this tradition is bound to continue with the fifth-generation model. After announcing that the Supra will replace the Camry in NASCAR, Toyota now gives us a preview of what could be a very popular customer racing car: the Supra GT4, the company’s first factory-developed GT4 racer.

The GT4 class is the baby brother of GT3: cheaper and less complicated to operate while also pertaining to closer wheel-to-wheel action due to the limited aerodynamic dependency of the cars in comparison to the GT3s. That’s why GT4 is, nowadays, a booming class just like TCR is in the world of touring car racing. Still, that doesn’t mean they are cheap. A Mercedes-AMG GTG GT4, for instance, will set you back $227,000 while the Multimatic-built Ford Mustang GT4 costs in excess of $260,000 but you can also go for something cheaper like the [$179,000 Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4-art184037]. By comparison, any GT3 car is well over $400,000 to purchase.

In this context, the Supra GT4 might become a very interesting entry-level GT4 option as it’s based on a not-so-expensive platform – it’s no McLaren or Mercedes-AMG GT. It’s also an official project, and that means it has credibility on its side right out of the box. Until now, if you wanted to go GT4 racing in a Toyota, your only choice was the GPRM-developed GT86 GT4 which never really performed on par with its rivals. Things must change now that the Supra is just around the corner.

Update 3/12/2019: We’ve updated this review with fresh images of the 2019 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Concept that we took at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Check them out in the gallery at the bottom of the page!

PostHeaderIcon Nissan’s Geneva-Bound IMQ Concept Is a Hideous Mutant

A couple of weeks ago Nissan announced plans to unveil a new concept vehicle at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. With the event just around the corner, the Japanese firm unveiled that it will be called the IMq and released a teaser photo of what appears to be a crossover. And, to put it simply. it’s Nissan’s ugliest concept yet!

PostHeaderIcon Smart ForEase+ Hits Geneva with Fixed Soft-Top

Smart’s future might be unclear due to slow sales, but the Daimler-owned brand keeps making interesting concept cars. The ForEase+ is the latest, and it will break cover at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show next week.

PostHeaderIcon Honda e Prototype is 95 percent production-ready

Honda’s 2017 Urban EV concept has evolved into a fully fledged production car – it’s not exactly the same as the design study, with its two extra doors and more conservative proportions, but it’s still going to be a rather unique proposition: a rear-wheel drive all-electric city car with retro-inspired styling.

PostHeaderIcon SEAT Minimo Concept

Apart from reinventing the wheel with the Cupra Formentor Conceptcrossover, the Spanish have prepared a rather interesting mobility proposition called the Minimo. Although it will appear at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, Seat revealed the electric quadricycle Minimo at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a few days prior to its Geneva debut.

The Minimo is a two-seat mobility solution that merges the qualities of superminis with the practicality of motorcycles. The Minimo measures 8.2 feet in length – this makes it the same length as the first smart ForTwo. Unlike the smart, however, the Minimo is only 4 feet wide. And, of course, it is electric, with doors that open upwards for even more in-town practicality.

This description sounds a lot like the Renault Twizy. The new Minimo actually does look a lot like the Renault electric quadricycle, but it is filled with new technology, and Seat bosses promise that “this is the solution that car-sharing companies have been waiting for.” Renault announced something similar with the Twizy, but it seems that Seat handled some of the curtailing issues Renault had with its small car. Most notably, Seat designed Minimo’s batteries in such a way so that depleted ones can be simply replaced with charged ones in minutes.

PostHeaderIcon Seat El-Born Unveiled with 260-mile Range Ahead of Geneva

Rumors about Seat working on an all-electric car based on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform have become reality ahead of the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Meet the El-Born, the company’s first electric vehicle. Although it’s just a concept for now, a production model will arrive in European dealerships in 2020.

PostHeaderIcon Kia’s New Concept Offers an Overdose of Digital Screens

The race to showcase the fanciest concept interior at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show is heating up, and Kia might be sitting in pole position already. The automaker’s first pure electric four-door passenger car — the name hasn’t been announced yet — is headed to the year’s biggest auto show with 21 screens in tow. That’s not a typo, nor is it a joke. The concept really has 21 screens in the interior. Fortunately, the concept isn’t all about these screens; the exterior also features a unique lights signature, specifically in the front end of the concept. More details are expected to be revealed once the 2019 Geneva Motor Show kicks off on March 7, 2019.

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen T-Roc R Production Concept

In an unprecedented invasion of performance SUVs, the Volkswagen Group introduced yet another performance crossover – the Volkswagen T-Roc R. It is basically a buffed up version of the highly sought after subcompact crossover T-Roc. Digging a bit deeper one can find a whole lot of the Golf R under its subtle body. And, that is a good thing. As for now, the Volkswagen T-Roc R is a near-production concept car. Yet, as is the case with the Cupra Formentor Concept, I believe it will be greenlighted for production in a few months following the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show.

The T-Roc R joins a quite astounding lineup of performance crossovers that include the Cupra Ateca, the Cupra Formentor Concept, the Skoda Kodiaq RS, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line with 240 horsepower engine, the Audi RSQ3, and the Audi SQ5 TDI.

Obviously, I included here almost all performance SUVs regardless of the power output. They do target similar customers. Do you really think someone in love with the Formentor does not dream bigger – like about the SQ5? Of course they do.

Obviously, Volkswagen is big on giving the drivers what they really want, and although it came to the SUV/Crossover party a bit late with the T-Roc, it definitely moved in the right direction with the hot one.

PostHeaderIcon Cupra Formentor Concept

I get some clear Infiniti QX30 vibes with the new Spanish concept called the Cupra Formentor. Prepared for the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, the Cupra Formentor is officially classified as a concept, but every single thing about it seems as production ready as it gets. Of course, while the exterior shape does have some QX30 vibe to it, the Formentor has a completely different layout, mission, and technology inside. It is a performance SUV/crossover because that’s what sells, and that’s how you build a performance brand nowadays. And, it looks quite dashing. I also researched a bit about its name and found out that there is a thing called the Cap de Formentor. It is basically a part of the peninsula on Mallorca. There, the Spanish built a lighthouse called the Formentor. It’s quite picturesque actually. Old Majorcans also call this place the Meeting Point of Winds. So, there you have it. The new Cupra probably got its name from this. I like it actually. It fits the car. Far more important than its name is the Formentor’s place in the Cupra lineup. With the Cupra Ateca revealed last year, the Formentor is the second Cupra performance SUV. Most likely, it’s longer, wider, but lower than the Cupra Ateca. And, that’s what’s important. Plus it does have a swept roof that’s kinda coupeish. That, more often than not, works well.

PostHeaderIcon Subaru Viziv Adrenaline Concept

Expectedly, Subaru is among the first ones to jump onto the wagon of endless teasers released before an auto show to introduce us to a new vehicle. In this case, the Japanese company we all adore released a really dark teaser of what is called the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline Concept. It is the seventh Viziv concept since 2013, and it definitely projects what will become an all-new car. Well, in the case of the Viziv Adrenaline Concept – what will become an all-new crossover. Because, of course, it is a crossover. Maybe even one that will evolve like a Pokemon into the next Crosstrek.

Subaru is really, like really, really secretive about it for now, but I did find out a thing or two about it and can make some logical conclusions.

PostHeaderIcon Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer Concept

Mitsubishi is presenting a new SUV concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Called the Engelberg Tourer Concept, the all-electric prototype is the latest concept salvo from the Japanese automaker. It arrives almost two years after the automaker unveiled the Mitsubishi e-Evolution electric SUV at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. While it doesn’t directly point to a specific electric SUV model, the Engelberg Tourer Concept is a showcase model that highlights the advancements Mitsubishi has made in the field of electrification. As a fixture in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, Mitsubishi is now in a solid position to advance its electrified plans for the future. It’s unclear if the Engelberg Tourer Concept is a part of these plans, but with the model debuting in Geneva, it’s safe to say that the concept will play a role in how the company’s electrification plans take shape.

PostHeaderIcon Kia Performance EV Concept

Kia has a few surprises in store for us that it will unveil in full at the 89th Geneva Auto Show and the hottest of them all is this muscular concept that will “get your pulse racing,” according to the Korean manufacturer. If it’s a two-door coupe done following the recipe of the Stinger GT, then we’re surely looking forward to it.

Kia let go of two separate teasers almost at the same time in the past couple of days: first, there was a sketch of the upcoming xCeed that’s already been spied testing on wintery roads. The crossover that’s supposed to split the Stonic and the Sportage in terms of size will share its engines with the standard Ceed and PHEV version is to be expected as well. The second teaser, though, is what got us wondering because it doesn’t really resemble anything in Kia’s current portfolio. Is the automaker hinting at a potential shift in its design language or did it just let its European design team based in Frankfurt to have a little fun in the eve of the major Swiss auto show?

PostHeaderIcon Aston Martin Lagonda All-Terrain Concept

The Lagonda All-Terrain Concept is a zero-emissions concept vehicle set to break cover at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Built by Aston Martin as the brands first all-electric SUV, it follows the Lagonda Vision Concept from 2018 and will eventually inspire a production model.

We don’t know much about the All-Terrain concept at this point, but Aston Martin did release a teaser photo that shows some the Lagonda’s front fascia. Although it was originally rumored that Lagonda’s first SUV will go against the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, it seems the Brits are actually preparing a sportier crossover that’s smaller than Rolls-Royce’s massive hauler. Stay tuned for an update from the Geneva Motor Show.

PostHeaderIcon Skoda Vision iV Concept

The Skoda Vision iV is a concept car that previews the company’s entry on the electric car market with a vehicle built on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB) platform. Although it’s aggressive and futuristic exterior looks familiar, drawing cues from previous Skoda concepts, the interior is unique and innovative for the Czech brand. Set to be unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Vision iV is part of Skoda’s recently announced plans to invest around €2 billion in electrification and launch 10 EV and hybrid vehicles by 2022. The Vision iV won’t make it into production as is, but it provides hints as to how future Skoda cars will look inside and out. The concept has yet to break cover, but we have a few sketches and some information to look at until the Geneva Motor Show kicks off.

PostHeaderIcon Peugeot 508 Sport Engineering Concept

Peugeot will bring a high performance electrified version of the 508 sedan to the 2019 Geneva motor show, although, sadly, like other previous bonkers fast electrified Peugeot concepts, it probably won’t see the production line. And, that’s a pity, because the 508 looks like it goes much faster than it actually does and this injection of extra go is just what it needs.

PostHeaderIcon Subaru Teases Viziv Adrenaline Concept Bound for Geneva

Subaru will add another study to its Viziv line of concepts that it’s been parading at motor shows over the past half-decade. This latest one, the seventh in the series, is called Subaru Viziv Adrenaline, and it’s set to make its debut next month, at the 2019 Geneva motor show.

PostHeaderIcon Citroen Ami Concept

Citroen is a manufacturer that many still associate with clever technical innovations wrapped in a unique styling package and, by that definition, the new Ami Concept fits right into the brand’s historic mold. It’s also not the first Citroen to be called Ami, so maybe the automaker is timidly trying to play the history card with this petit concept.
