PostHeaderIcon Elon Musk Makes More Crazy Promises About the Tesla Roadster

0-to-60 mph in 1.9 seconds

We were utterly floored when Tesla dropped details on the forthcoming Roadster 2.0 back in 2017. While we have yet to see this thing outside the confines of a Tesla press release, the new Roadster promises a long list of amazing specs, from a 1.9-second 0-to-60 mph time to 620 miles of range per charge. Now, Musk is upping the insanity to all-new levels, with claims that the new Roadster will offer a SpaceX package that includes rocket thrusters.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche 911 Cabriolet

The 992-generation Porsche 911 arrived in 2018, replacing the old 991 model after seven years on the market. The Cabriolet version joined the lineup in January 2019, just ahead of the Detroit Auto Show. The drop-top shares everything from the design to its underpinnings with the coupe.

Notable highlights for the new generation include vintage-inspired design cues, a wider body, new technology, and a revised turbocharged engine. Just like the coupe, the Cabriolet debuted in Carrera S trim, but more models will be added later on. The newly designed soft-top is lighter and folds much quicker than its predecessor.

PostHeaderIcon Teaser Image And Video Preview a New 2019 McLaren 600LT

It’s been less than a month since McLaren unveiled its latest supercar, the 720S Spider, and the British firm announced the arrival of a new vehicle. This time around it’s based on the 600LT, itself a higher performance variant of the570S. The teasers don’t reveal much, but we’re probably looking at the convertible version of the 600LT.

PostHeaderIcon The New 2020 Porsche 911 Cabriolet Can Go Topless in Just 12 Seconds

Following the debut of the 2020 Porsche 911 at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, Stuttgart is dropping the top with the new 2020 911 Cabriolet, and it’s bringing all the good stuff as the hardtop, plus a few unique features to help you better enjoy the extra headroom.

PostHeaderIcon Cadillac XLR Successor

The Cadillac XLR was a high-performance, luxury roadster built from 2004 to 2009 on the same platform as the Chevrolet Corvette C6. The nameplate could return when GM introduces the mid-engined, C8-generation Corvette.

Although there’s no official confirmation from Cadillac, leaked photos of a key fob suggest that the luxury brand will soon unveil a mid-engined sports car with a retractable roof. More specifically, the drawings on the fob look like the upcoming mid-engined Corvette, but also show a convertible roof. The C8-generation Corvette will break cover in 2019, so the Cadillac might follow sometime in 2020, for the 2021 model year. That’s a long wait, so here’s a rendering of the luxury roadster and everything we already know about it.

PostHeaderIcon Check Out Dozens Of Miatas Ready To Spread Joy and Gifts in Japan

Once a year, just before Christmas, the members of the Roadster Club of Japan, devotees of the Mazda Miata, dress up as Santa, turn their cars into genuine Santamobiles and set about doing charitable work in some of Japan’s major cities.

The event organized by Mazda Miata owners has been a decade-old tradition in Yokohama and has also been organized in Tokyo for the past three years. Now, some 26 Miata owners, as well as many volunteers and Mazda employees, including the designer of the fourth-generation Miata, took part in a charitable event of this kind organized for the first time in Hiroshima.

PostHeaderIcon The 2020 Toyota Supra Could Go Topless After All

We’re still chomping at the bit to learn more about the new 2020 Toyota Supra, but before it makes its big debut, we are now getting another fresh rumor to gnaw on. The latest is confirmation that Toyota could very well create a drop-top convertible iteration of the fifth-gen sports car.

PostHeaderIcon Is Santa Bringing Back Volkswagen’s Beach Buggy?

Bruce Meyers’ Manx buggy was one of the huge automotive hits of the ’60s and, channeling the spirit of those years; it was a full-on DIY project that turned into a phenomenon. Now, Volkswagen, the company that powered Meyers’ dreams via the Beetle platform, teased a potential revival of the buggy as an electric concept part of the I.D. family.

This year, Volkswagen’s traditional Christmas card features the muscular silhouette of an open-top rugged off-roader with Santa in the driver’s seat. This suggests that the German automaker is looking to unveil yet another concept under the I.D. umbrella inspired by the buggy that was paramount to the creation of the Baja Rally.

PostHeaderIcon Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet

The Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet, part of the W111 family of models, debuted in 1961 as a full-size executive open-top model that replaced the W128 220SE which was still based on the antiquated ’Ponton’ design. The new model featured a more sharp-cornered design that has endured as one of Mercedes’ finest over the years.

The W111 series debuted in 1959 at the Frankfurt Auto Show where Mercedes-Benz unveiled the four-door sedan body style which quickly gained the ’Heckflosse’ nickname, which stands for ’Fintail’ in English. The nickname emerged thanks to the car’s stylized fins that rose at the rear of the car, a design cue aimed at the American clientele.

The Cabriolet version followed a couple of years later after the production cycle of the Ponton-based W128 Cabriolet ended. The two-door car had a soft top and exuded a sort of refined beauty that has become almost synonym with ’60s Mercedes-Benz models. The W111 is considered part of the S-Class lineage along with the deluxe W112 that featured bigger engines and more amenities onboard.

PostHeaderIcon Oldsmobile 442 Convertible

The Oldsmobile 442, or 4-4-2 as it was advertised and sold in period, was one of the first muscle cars to appear after Pontiac released the Tempest-based GTO. The 1967 model featured a 6.5-liter V-8 that pushed out 350 horsepower but lacked the styling to match its performance figures.

The 442 debuted in September of 1963 for the 1964 model year as the performance trim level of the Cutlass. As a consequence, it was equipped with the biggest engine that GM would allow on a mid-size car at the time, a 5.4-liter V-8 with a four-barrel carburetor that was rated at 310 horsepower. In fact, the 442 nameplate originally pointed out to the car’s setup: its quad-barrel carburetor, four-speed gearbox, and twin-pipe exhaust system.

Oldsmobile’s first muscle car was available as a two-door hardtop, a two-door convertible, and even a four-door sedan. Up until 1967, you could have the 442 trim level on either the F-85 or the Cutlass base. However, for the first generation’s final production year, the 442 was based on the ultimate version of the Cutlass Supreme, further proving the 442’s special status. It became a standalone model when the second generation debuted in 1968.

PostHeaderIcon Mazda is Set to Put on One Hell of a Showing at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon

Mazda seems to be on a roll these days. After attending auto shows all across the globe, the Japanese automaker finally returns to its homeland with a variety of models that it plans to unveil at the Tokyo Auto Salon next month. Can it spin the same magic and continue the good form here?

PostHeaderIcon Porsche 718 Boxster T

The 718 Boxster T is the first Porsche, alongside the 718 Cayman T, to sport the “T” badge, which stands for “Touring,” after the 911 Carrera T. Unveiled in December 2018, it’s based on the base 718 Boxster but comes with a few extra standard features.

The “T” badge turns the already sporty 718 Boxster into a no-nonsense car that offers driving pleasure in its purest form. Although it’s powered by the company’s base engine for the Boxster and Cayman lineup, it’s equipped with chassis upgrades, the Sport Chrono package, and an infotainment system delete. It’s also a bit more affordable than the regular Boxster, with Porsche claiming you can save up to 10 percent compared to a similarly specced model. Let’s find out more about that in the review below.

PostHeaderIcon If You Like to Keep it Simple, the 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman T or 718 Boxster T Might be for You

A no-nonsense, old-school take on the modern Porsche 911, the Carrera T has been a big hit with enthusiasts. Porsche is now building on the momentum with T-badged versions of the 718 Boxster and Cayman.

PostHeaderIcon Wallpaper of the Day: 2019 BMW Z4

After a lot of controversy over nameplate usage, BMW finally debuted the 2019 BMW Z4. To make matters a little better, the first one we got to lay eyes on was the M40i trim level that you see here. Powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six, it pumps out some 340 horsepower and can make a dedicated run to 60-mph in 4.6 seconds. It’s just not performance that matters, though, as the new Z4 is actually quite attractive. It has some of the concept’s DNA all mashed together with some 8 Series DNA too. And, since we haven’t given it any love lately, we figured why not pick out our favorite Z4 wallpaper and share it with you as our wallpaper of the day. Even better yet, if you don’t like our favorite, there’s a whole bunch more in the gallery below. Take any that you like and give the Z4 some of that good ol’ enthusiast love that it deserves!

PostHeaderIcon McLaren Special Operations Launches ‘Racing Through the Ages’ six-car collection

McLaren, the car company founded by Bruce McLaren of New Zealand in the ’60s as a racing car manufacturer and motorsports outfit, continues to celebrate its storied past with six evocative McLaren 570S models – three coupes and three cabriolets. These cars, commisioned by Mclaren of Beverly Hills and built by McLaren Special Operations, showcase three key periods in McLaren’s racing history.

Each of the three periods is presented on a 570S Coupe and a570S Spider that share the same exterior color. There’s the ’Muriwai Theme’ that harkens back to Bruce McLaren’s early racing exploits, the ’Papaya Spark Theme’ which recalls the days of the orange racing McLarens in the ’60s and ’70s, and the ’Sarthe Gray Theme’ that’s a tribute to McLaren’s overall victory at Le Mans back in 1995.

PostHeaderIcon The McLaren 720S Spider’s Secret Weapon is Its Roof

McLaren has had a busy year with the respective launches of the track-focused Senna and the three-seater Speedtail. But 2018 isn’t done yet, so McLaren’s busting out another debut, this time for the “more affordable” 720S Spider. Despite its place in the “Senna-Speedtail” pecking order, the McLaren 720S Spider is lethal and potent in its own right. It has the same 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, V-8 engine as its coupe counterpart and produces 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. More importantly, the 720S Spider isn’t as heavy as you’d think, especially with the complex roof system it’s carrying. McLaren is already taking orders for the 720S Spider, which carries a price of $315,000. Those who order from the British automaker should expect their supercars to arrive sometime in March 2019.

PostHeaderIcon Word Has It Volkswagen Is Developing an ID Electric Beach Buggy

Volkswagen might be working hard to broaden its cutting-edge electric offerings as of late, but it isn’t forgetting where it came from, digging deep into its catalogue of classic hits to mate the new with the old. Now, the latest VW icon to get EV’d could be the ever-lovable Beach Buggy.

PostHeaderIcon Dodge Redeye Express

By his own admission, the start of 2018 wasn’t a good time for Santa Claus. He had just finished his 2017 holiday delivery schedule and found himself more exhausted than he usually was. His back was screaming, his knees hurt, and he was, in his own words, growing a “bowl of jelly” in his stomach. Six months passed and Santa was still stuck in a rut. He knew he needed to work out. He just wasn’t inspired to do it. Then, in one fateful night in June, Santa visited his favorite auto website — we think it’s Topspeed — and saw the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. The very next day, Santa called up his local Dodge dealer in the North Pole and asked to test drive the 797-horsepower monster.

We jump to the present day, and Santa’s a completely different man. His “bowl of jelly” is gone, replaced by muscles that sat on top of muscles. He credits his physical makeover to the test-drive he had back in June, saying that it transformed his outlook in life. That same test drive also inspired him to transform his old ride to match his new “shredded bod.” And so, the Dodge Redeye Express was born.

PostHeaderIcon You Can Now Pay to Have an EV Powertrain Bolted into Your Classic Aston Martin

Although a noble thought by Aston Martin, this basically kills the whole point. Wondering what we are talking about? Aston Martin Works plans to protect the classic cars in the future by allowing them to live as Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs). It has produced the first model under its plan called the Heritage EV Programme.

PostHeaderIcon We Can’t Get Enough of the Rotating Display in the Bentley Continental GT Convertible

Bentley’s Continental GT is probably the ultimate luxury grand tourer that money can buy. Now, just as the British manufacturer is debuting the convertible version, we stop to take a look at the centerpiece, literally and metaphorically, of the Continental’s interior: its three-sided rotating panel on the center console.

It’s no question that Bentley outdid themselves with the new Continental. Yes, it’s still a massive lump of a car, and yes, you’ll never get everyone to agree that the smaller outboard headlights make sense but, now, the car feels more supple than ever while still oozing class and luxury.
