PostHeaderIcon PaxPower Ford F-150 Raptor V-8 and Ford F-150 Raptor EcoBoost Comparison

With Ford introducing the EcoBoost F-150 Raptor, we witnessed the end of an era. The end of the V-8 Raptor era. Some, however, weren’t exactly thrilled with it. At all. People wanted the Raptor V-8. Luckily, thanks to PaxPower, they’ve got it. The Houston-based company took the Ford F-150 V-8, slapped a supercharger to it, installed all OEM 2019 F-150 Raptor parts on it, and called it a deal. It is now up to me to compare the two, although, it seems that PaxPower did not leave me a lot to compare here. The PaxPower Raptor has all the bells and whistles as the real thing – only with far more power and better performance.

PostHeaderIcon Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison vs Ford F-150 Raptor

There are few things in this world as resolutely badass as a hugely capable off-roader pickup truck. These are the machines you want with you when there’s a forest, mountain, or desert between you and your destination. With a go-anywhere attitude and the right stuff to walk the walk, the street-legal off-roader used to be something cobbled together in a shed. Now, you can get one direct from the factory, be it the Colorado ZR2 Bison from Chevrolet, or the F-150 Raptor from Ford.

These purpose-built, highly specialized variants offer tons of good stuff for those who prefer the trail to the street. For example, the Bison was created in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), an aftermarket off-roader company that knows exactly what’s needed when the going gets rough. Then there’s the F-150 Raptor, which Ford developed into a full-blown Baja racer with a license plate. But how do these two stack up against one another? Read on to find out.

PostHeaderIcon Ken Block’s New AWD F-150-Based Hoonitruck Is Ford GT Crazy

It ain’t easy being Ken Block. Sure, it looks like fun and games, what with a career as a professional race car driver, plus all kinds of extremely lucrative endorsement deals and one of the most viral brands on the face of the planet. But along with all those perks, Block must also one-up himself on an extremely regular basis. It all started with the Gymkhana series, with each successive video bringing the stunt driving insanity to an all-new level. Then came the builds, starting with the infamous Hoonicorn. Now, we’re getting a look at the latest wild creation from the Hoonigan team. It’s called the Hoonitruck, and as you probably expect, it’s every shade of over-the-top.

PostHeaderIcon 2019 Ford F-150 Limited Gets Plonked With Raptor’s Engine

Engine sharing is not a new concept in the industry, and the 2019 Ford F-150 is the latest to benefit from this. The ‘Limited’ trim of the F-150, expected to hit the roads later this year, gets a bigger engine from the Raptor. There’s a lot more to the eye than just the engine adaption, but will this affect the Raptor’s sales in any way?

Ford F-150 Raptor F-22

What you are looking at here is quite possibly the coolest Ford F-150 Raptor anywhere ever, and you can’t have it. PostHeaderIcon 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Heads to China

Raptors-China_22

It appears the warm welcome the new Mustang received in the United Kingdom has emboldened Ford to offer their “special” models in markets they traditionally wouldn’t get close to. A case in point is the launch of the new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor in the Chinese market.

The first batch of 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor production trucks have departed for China, offering the people of the red republic something they haven’t really experienced before: a cool and macho pickup truck with the performance of a sports car and off-road capability of a Range Rover. The Raptors for China are all four-door SuperCrew models which might seem like an overkill size-wise. But as you know the Chinese like their cars big. They are always te first to get long wheelbase versions of luxury saloons and SUVs.

So if you are a Chinese person and you are excited for the launch of the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor in your country, let us tell you that it’s a dopeass truck with military-grade, high-strength, aluminum-alloy cab, high-output version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, plus a Ford-built 10-speed automatic transmission and advanced six-mode Terrain Management System, plus Ford Performance-engineered high-strength steel frame with custom Fox Racing shocks with higher ground clearance, BFGoodrich off-road tires and full dual-performance exhaust system.

PostHeaderIcon American Muscle To Give Away Track-Ready Mustang, F-150 Raptor, and Aluminum Trailer

Ford Mustang and F-150 enthusiasts likely know American Muscle. It’s a huge aftermarket parts supplier with add-on parts ranging from cosmetic bits to full crate engines ready for a project car. Well, the retailer is throwing a huge give-away with one lucky winner taking home a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, an 850-horsepower Mustang, and an aluminum race trailer stocked full of tools and race tires!

At the heart of the package is the highly tuned Mustang. This current-gen car has a Whipple supercharger sitting on its modified 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 that makes 850 horsepower at the crank and just over 725 horsepower at the rear wheels. It comes painted in a custom Tangerine Orange paint with a unique styling package. It rides on upgraded wheels and tires that can be swapped out for the drag slicks and skinnies found on the trailer. All told, this one-off Mustang has more than $30,000 worth of aftermarket parts bolted on.

Towing duties are given to a 2017 F-150 Raptor SuperCab. It comes untouched from the factory in Blue Flame paint with the optional Black Graphics Package. American Muscle didn’t have to do anything to the Raptor’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 since it makes an impressive 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires and 10-spoke wheels reamain. The Raptor’s 6,000-pound towing capacity should be more than enough to pull the Mustang and aluminum trailer to the track.

Speaking of the trailer, it comes equipped with drag radials for the Mustang’s rear axle and skinnies for the front. It also has a full assortment of tools a race team might need in the pits.

This is perhaps the most comprehensive give-away package we’ve ever seen, so be sure to enter to win. You can enter weekly until November 11, 2016. The winner will be announced on November 25.

PostHeaderIcon Official: 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck

Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck-top

Ford’s love of competition and racing is so huge, they have gone ahead and made a racing version of the new Raptor truck before the production truck can get its feet grounded in the market. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck will compete in the Best in the Desert off-road racing series’ new factory stock class.

The Racing Raptor is based on the production model and gets the same aluminum-alloy body, high-strength steel frame, 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine and 10-speed transmission, and torque-on-demand transfer case. That is kind of the point of the whole effort, to show off to the rivals the Raptor is tough enough to take them on as soon as it rolls off the production line.

That said, some changes have been inevitable to make the Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck eligible for the series. They include the addition of race-optimized three-inch-diameter external-bypass front and rear Fox Racing Shox, front and rear springs raise ride height, custom roll cage, MasterCraft seats with five-point harness safety belts and window nets, ED light bars, racing fuel cell, Lowrance GPS, and RacePak digital dash and data logger.

The cool thing about the new Ford Raptor is that it was built from the ground up for this sort of jobs. Even the street version you can buy at the showrooms include a  Terrain Management System with a “Baja” mode for high-speed desert running! And with 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque on tap, you’re gonna be doing some serious speed.

PostHeaderIcon Ford F-150 Lineup Gains Start-Stop

2017 Ford F-150 auto start-stop technology

If Arnold Schwarzenegger became a vegetarian, the latest Ford F-150 EcoBoost would be the car he’d drive. The big, badass truck is gaining fuel-saving Start-Stop system in its new modelyear in an effort to make the vehicle a little bit greener.

The Start-Stop system fitted to Ford F-150 EcoBosst model is specially tuned for trucking. It shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop just like a normal system, but it known when you are except towing something or when you are in four-wheel-drive mode, and it disengages automatically. Ford doesn’t mention any numbers, but promises this saves fuel and reduces CO2 emissions.

The system is offered on the 2016 F-150 with 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, and will also be available for all 3.5-liter EcoBoost-engined models, including the 2017 F-150 Raptor.

Ford F-150-Start-Stop-2

“EcoBoost already powers F-150’s best-in-class towing,” said Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Now, with every EcoBoost-equipped F-150 mildly electrified with standard Auto Start-Stop technology, customers’ fuel efficiency is expected to improve as well.”

PostHeaderIcon 2016 NAIAS: Ford Raptor SuperCrew

Ford Raptor SuperCrew-0

You cannot have an American motor show without at least a couple of brand-new pickup trucks making their debut. So here’s one, the 2017 Ford Raptor SuperCrew which adds room for passengers and gear and offers an overall more versatile vehicle than the standard version.

What is more attractive about the new Ford Raptor SuperCrew, besides the simply awesome looks, is that everything about this truck is just cool. The engine, for instance, is a 400+ horsepower 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6, and it’s mated to a 10-speed transmission as well as torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive. They are all superb features that make every pickup lover weak in the knees.

What’s more, the new SuperCrew is pitched as the toughest Raptor ever. It features a purpose-built fully boxed frame, dual exhaust and new 17-inch wheels with next-generation BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires designed for off-road performance, plus advanced suspension and drivetrain parts that save up to 500 pounds in weight compared to the previous Raptor. So not only is it tough, it is also more agile than ever.

But Ford Raptor SuperCrew is not just muscle. The thing also has brains, in form of an all-new Terrain Management System with up to six driving modes, including Normal mode for everyday driving, Street mode for higher-performance, on-road driving, Weather mode for rain, snow or ice, Mud and sand mode for muddy and sandy trails and terrain, Baja mode for high-speed desert running and Rock mode for low-speed rock crawling.

PostHeaderIcon 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Goes Trail Testing

F-150 Raptor-test

Ford is adamant that the new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor must be “the toughest, smartest and most capable” in its class. Achieving that, of course, is not easy, which is why they have dispatched a team of experts to track trails in Northern Michigan and tasked them with driving Raptor prototypes up and down some nasty off-road tracks.

The goal here is to give all the off-road components of the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor a good shakedown, so if any of them is not up to the job it would reveal itself and get mercilessly replaced. Those tracks are like torture chambers for the Raptor.

It is not likely that 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor would break under torture though. The car comes as standard with some high-end features such as 3.0-inch FOX Racing Shox with custom internal bypass technology, and all-new four-wheel-drive with torque-on-demand transfer case.

The new Raptor, then, is shaping up to be a truly fine product. But let’s be honest, it is not the Raptor you are interested in, is it? What we all want to see is the next Hennessey Velociraptor, preferably with more than 700 horsepower!

PostHeaderIcon 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Hits the Desert

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Durability Testing

Ford has released, as a sort of teaser, a few pictures of the new F-150 Raptor undergoing some serious off-road tests in the deserts of the southwestern United States. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor has already completed over one thousand miles of testing in harsh conditions.

SVT engineers have devised a number of special tests for the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor to make sure the car is as tough and durable as its name suggests. They came up with a 66-mile route designed to mimic the Baja race course, featuring a wide range of surfaces including fast sandy washes, deep-rutted silt beds, steep climbs in deep sand, and slow meticulous crawls through tight trenches.

After a good deal of number crunching, the engineers concluded the new Raptor is about  25 percent faster than the current model, taking into account the lap times and that 100 mph top speed it achieved during some phases of the tests. The absolute highlight of this program, however, was the tabletop jump consisting of a steep ramp up to a two-foot plateau, then a step-off back to level ground.

So far the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor has passed all the tests with flying colors. But the test units are pre-production mules built with a mishmash of components from old and new models. The production version will not be ready until the fall of 2016.
