Ask any true car and racing fan who the greatest race car driver in history is and one name will be mentioned more often than the others.

With all due respect to Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio but majority of people will tell you that the greatest racer of all time is Ayrton Senna.

Tragically, the great Senna isn’t around to bask in the glory of his place in the racing hierarchy. But it doesn’t mean that all his fans – us included – can’t appreciate the man and the legend, even if it’s through a documentary.

Believe us, if there’s one documentary that you should watch, it’s this one. The biopic, which is being called ‘Ayrton Senna – Beyond The Speed Of Sound’, gives us the first look at the man behind three Formula One world championships. We’ve seen some Senna documentaries in the past, but none of them have gone to great lengths to portray the man as this documentary has done. From the triumphs, to his feud with Alain Prost, and sadly, to his untimely death, Beyond The Speed Of Sound paints the clearest picture of who the man many say is the greatest race car driver of all time.

Looks like Austin, Texas won’t be the only new venue that’s going to be included in future Formula One seasons.

Rome, Italy has been pining to host a Formula One race for quite some time now and it looks like Italy’s capital is on track to host a round in the F1 calendar soon.

According to Mayor Gianni Alemanno, the time-table for a race to be held in Rome should be “from 2012 or no later than 2013”. Noted circuit designer, Hermann Tilke, has also earmarked the potential site for the race and it could possibly be set-up at the Italian capital’s EUR district, making it a street-race instead of the usual track circuits that are currently being used in Formula One.

Despite the optimism, there are still a number of roadblocks that need to be cleared before the project receives a green light. The most important roadblock being the approval of political leaders and residents of the area. In spite of the obstacles, Alemanno is confident that an agreement would be hatched soon, paving the way for two Italian stops in future Formula One seasons.

The 2010 Formula One season has been ripe in unpredictably and, while we kind of figured that it would be a three-headed race for supremacy with Ferrari, Red Bull, and McLaren, we didn’t expect one other team to have had the success they’ve had this year.

That team is Renault and the team’s success has generated some interest from the French carmaker Renault SA to consider buying back a majority stake in the team that bears its name.

If you recall, earlier this year Renault actually sold a majority stake of the team to Genii Capital, an investment firm in Luxembourg. The sale was widely viewed as Renault’s intention to cut their losses with the team after a major scandal rocked Formula One that centered on then Renault boss Flavio Briatore. Add that to the economic crisis that gripped a number of brands, and it seemed like a perfect time for the French manufacturer to drop the team and focus more on their production cars.

But now that the economy has stabilized and the Renault F1 team is doing surprisingly well this year, the French auto brand is rumored to be looking to buy back a piece of the F1 team’s pie. Whether or not this happens is still up in the air. But if you ask us, it does look suspiciously like a boyfriend looking to get back together with a girl he previously dumped because she lost weight and got hot all of a sudden.

And we know how those things turn out.

The 2012 US Grand Prix is drawing closer and closer, and with a little less than two years before it actually kicks off, the organizers have finally revealed the first look at the 3.4-mile track that will be located just southeast of Austin, Texas.

The track will come with 20 turns, 133 feet of elevation change, a three-fourths of a mile long straight, and a width that will vary anywhere between 39 and 52 feet.

Race promoter and head of Full Throttle Productions, Tavo Hellmund, commented on the layout for the new track, saying that “drivers and fans should really like it”.

The $200-million dollar track is set to be built on an empty vast of land and is expected to be completed in time for the race two years from now. It’s going to draw inspiration from a number of world-class F1 tracks in the world, including those found in Silverstone, Hockenheim, and Istanbul. In addition to that, the track is also expected to come with a number of passing areas that should make the race more interesting.

Judging by what we’re looking at, the track looks like it’s going to feature some pretty-action packed racing in the future. Let’s just hope that the organizers find a way to finish it on time, which, in the world of Formula One, is a tall order in itself.

Just like everybody else at this time of the year, Formula One also has its summer break. And now that vacation’s finally over, it’s time to return to the cockpits and head out to the next round of the 2010 Formula One calendar: the Belgian Grand Prix, and a date with one of the most demanding race tracks in the world, the Spa Francorchamps.

Known for being a notorious circuit filled with some of the world’s most exciting turns and corners – La Source, Eau Rouge, and Blanchimont come to mind – Spa is both a driver’s best friend and his own worst nightmare.

That being said, Red Bull Racing is hard-at-work in their preparations for the Belgian Grand Prix, but true to their form, they’re also giving time for their fans to get a feel of what driving around the track feels like from the cockpit. In this video, Sebastian Vettel gives us a tour around Spa and gives us the lowdown on his impressions of the track leading up to the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.

Considering that we’ve always prided ourselves on being card-carrying members of the racing video game industry, it shouldn’t come as any surprise to any of you that we’re all getting geeked for the next few months. That’s when a plethora of new racing games, including the highly-touted and much-delayed Gran Turismo 5, will hit the shelves, sending our hard-earned money flying out of our wallets faster than a Formula One car blasting at over 200 mph.

In addition to GT5, a number of other racing games are scheduled for release, including DiRT 3 and F1 2010. But for the purposes of this entry, we’re going to show you a little preview of what to expect from the latter.

Honestly, if we didn’t know any better, we would have thought that this was actual footage from a real Formula One race. That’s how amazingly realistic this video looks. What’s even better is that the video deviates from the overly dramatizing TV shots and concentrates on what’s most important: hardcore Formula One racing – and in the rain, no less.

See for yourself, fellas. Trust us, you’ll be itching to play the game as soon as you finish watching the video.

The 2012 Formula One Grand Prix is inching closer and closer to erasing the skepticism surrounding it after the official site of the race track in Austin, Texas, as well as the primary investor behind the whole thing, were recently revealed by organizers.

While preparations for the race are still far from over, there has been significant progress in a lot of fronts that could eventually lead to the race being finally given the green light.

The race venue, which was announced last month to be in Austin, Texas, has been confirmed and will be built in an expanse of land in southeast Austin that was once called Wandering Creek. As for the principal investor behind the entire movement, it has been revealed to be one Red McCombs, who many know in the sports world as the one-time owner of the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets, as well as the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings.

On the flip side, it goes without saying that there are still a lot of hurdles to overcome before the race track becomes operational. Despite what still looks to be a truncated timeline, a lot of people in the F1 circle are still optimistic that the US Grand Prix will inevitably push through in 2012.
