PostHeaderIcon Geely To Collaborate With CATL To Manufacture Batteries For EVs

The auto industry is moving towards an EV-olution, and all automakers have taken part in the rat race to gain a lead. While smaller automakers are outsourcing the batteries, bigger players are getting into production themselves. Geely’s subsidiary, Zhejiang Jirun Automobile, will collaborate along with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd. (CATL) in a joint venture to set up a battery-manufacturing plant.

PostHeaderIcon The Range-Topping Porsche Taycan will Feature a Peculiar Name for an EV

A lot of combustion engine cars on the market are named after their engine specs and characteristics. This has been a long-running tradition, but it has left automakers in a fix when it comes to naming their electric cars. While some have worked their brains and named their electric cars sensibly, Porsche decided to continue with its ICE monikers even for the Taycan. The top-trim Taycan has been named the Taycan Turbo, and we cannot stop laughing.
And, for those of you that are unaware, No – you can not turbocharge and electric car.

PostHeaderIcon Hyundai is Expanding into New Territory and Has Chosen to Build a New Plant in an Unexpected Location

Hyundai has been on a spending spree lately. Recently, the South Korean automaker invested about $250 million in a ride-hailing company, and now, according to a report from Reuters, it is investing $880 million in a plant in Indonesia where it plans to start building electric vehicles.

PostHeaderIcon The electric cars that will revolutionize the market in 2019

2018 was a banner year for electric vehicles. Throughout the year, we’ve seen more EV’s debut than any other time in auto history.
It’s a clear sign that EVs have moved beyond the point of being novelties. The sudden rush among automakers to develop electric cars isn’t a niche endeavor anymore. It’s become the key to the future of the whole business. So if you thought that 2018 was a big year for electric vehicles, 2019 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for the segment. Just about every relevant automaker has its hands on the EV pot, right there with startup companies that are looking for relevancy in an industry that’s become as competitive as it’s ever been. Priorities are shifting in this business if they haven’t shifted already. 2019 will be the year when a lot of these automakers show off the fruits of their labor, including these eight models that could revolutionize the whole segment and plot the long-term course of the industry.

PostHeaderIcon Watch Out Tesla! Qiantu Motor’s 400-HP Electric Coupe Is Coming to America

From the monstrous Nio EP9, to a vast army of micro city cars, China is certainly no stranger to electric vehicles. Now that Eastern vibe is heading West with the introduction of a new EV sports car that could very well take the market by surprise. Maybe.

PostHeaderIcon New In-Car App from Tesla is Fart-Tastic

Tesla’s cloud-based system updates make it easy for owners to download every new improvement that comes from the company founded by Elon Musk. This time, you really should hurry because the latest update includes a brilliant easter-egg: a fart app.

Have you ever wanted to play a practical joke on your friends by deploying an array of fart sounds in your car’s surround audio system? Well, if you own a Tesla, the latest update lets you do just that. You can choose between farts on demand and farts that activate when you toggle the turn signals. Really, now, what more could you wish for?

PostHeaderIcon The 2020 Volkswagen ID Visits South Africa as Part of It’s Final Testing Phase

Volkswagen will put the ID all-electric hatchback into production in 2019, but we still have to wait until the vehicle is officially revealed. We expect it to have a more restrained and toned down design compared to the concept that previewed it, but at the same time, it will retain its overall shape and several design details.

PostHeaderIcon Can an All-Electric Car Be a True Driver’s Car? BMW Looks to Find Out with the 2021 i4

BMW has planned its near-future quite well. Even though its latest design philosophy– we’re talking about electric cars designs, not the infamous “twinning” concept – has garnered a lot of heat, BMW is still banking on zero-emission cars to safely propel the company into the EV revolution. To achieve this, the automaker is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that all kinds of folks are pleased. As such, the i4 EV is said to be a true driver’s car, through and through.

PostHeaderIcon New GM Trademark Points to a Production Run for a Recent Sexy Concept

Earlier in April, at the Beijing Auto Show, Buick revealed a new high-tech compact crossover concept, called the Enspire, that featured a huge number of exciting features and design cues. Now, it’s looking like that concept will soon hit the production line, but the question is – what will it bring to the table?

PostHeaderIcon Apple iCar aka Project Titan Rumors Gain Traction as Apple Poaches Designer Andrew Kim Away from Tesla

We’ve been digging for info on the supposed Apple iCar for years, and like clockwork, we’re now getting another new rumor that goes to support claims that the tech giant has its own proprietary automobile in the works. The latest points to Apple’s poaching of Andrew Kim, a designer from Tesla, which reinforces the idea that we may see an Apple-branded EV in the near future.

PostHeaderIcon Want an All-Electric Ford Mustang? Aviar Motors in Russia Might Hook You Up

The market for restomods is growing as we see more and more cars modified with a modern twist. Now, there’s a new wave of constructors that try to tease you with a slightly altered recipe: a classic-looking car with modern, eco-friendly, propulsion. One fine example of this is the Aviar Motors R67 built in Russia that, as the name subtly suggests, strongly resembles a Ford Mustang from the year 1967.

Have you ever thought of buying a Mustang replica from a Russian company? What about a Mustang replica from a Russian company that’s also electric and has over 700 pound-feet of torque? As strange as it may sound, Aviar Motors is planning to build just that. This new start-up company has showcased its plans for a retro-looking EV that’s nothing more than a slightly modified 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback. As far as we’re concerned, that’s not a bad starting point at all, as long as Ford agrees with the whole thing.

PostHeaderIcon BMW and Porsche Tease an Ultrafast EV Charger That Nobody Can Use

Charging electric cars is a major concern for EV owners. In fact, it is one of the aspects that affect the decision-making process of any prospective buyer as well. Companies have come up with fast chargers and superfast chargers that are relatively close to competing with traditional refueling times, but they aren’t quite there yet. All of that may change, though, as BMW and Porsche have announced a new ultrafast electric car charger that is faster than even Tesla’s supercharger!

PostHeaderIcon Reviewers Try Out The New All-Electric 2019 Audi e-Tron Quattro SUV

The luxury electric crossover and SUV market just got a new and serious contender, in the form of the new Audi e-Tron high-rider which was officially launched not too long ago. Journos have tried it out and, since this is an Audi we’re talking about, their first impressions of the car are a bit predictable. What we didn’t expect, however, is to hear complaints about the E-Tron Quattro’s performance.

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen Will Try to Enter the Luxury SUV Segment Again With the I.D. Lounge, Framed As a Touareg-Sized EV

Volkswagen is really doubling down on its electrified offerings as of late, adding a range of battery-powered models to a variety of segments and previewing each with a series of concepts tagged with the I.D. sub-branding. Now, we’re getting some info on what the production I.D. models will bring to the table, including a new SUV rumored to be called the I.D. Lounge.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Came Up with a Pretty Slick Way to Electrify the 992-Gen 2020 Porsche 911

It’s not even 2019, and we’re already talking about the hybridized version of the new 992-generation Porsche 911. Yes, the plug-in model will only be unveiled in late 2020 for the 2021 model but August Achleitner, Porsche’s current head of sports car development, has already shed some light on how the German company prepared for this move.

We knew ever since the new 911 was presented to the world at the L.A. Auto Show that it would have some built-in features that would, later on, make the adaptation of a hybrid powertrain simpler. Now, we get a bit of insight of how Porsche is working to fit the battery pack and the electric motors onto the 911s platform.

PostHeaderIcon How Much is the Audi E-Tron GT Concept Going to Change as it Shifts Into Production?

We were all stunned by the looks of Audi’s E-Tron GT Concept that the German Automaker unexpectedly unveiled at the L.A. Autoshow. The electric four-door coupe is slated to become the benchmark performance model in the E-Tron range and is co-developed with Audi’s competition arm, Audi Sport. What is more, the outlandish design is set to remain vastly unchanged when the car enters production in 2020, if we are to believe Audi’s design boss, Marc Lichte.

I’m a fan of the E-Tron GT Concept, and I’m not a fan of too many new cars. That’s why I wrote in my previous pieces on the subject of this car that I hope it will remain intact – from a visual standpoint – when it hits showrooms in less than two year’s time. Now, we hear that Marc Lichte confirmed to the media at a roundtable organized during the L.A. Auto Show that most of the sheet metal we see on the concept will be carried over to the production car. You can imagine some alterations will be made, mostly in the name of safety, but that should be it.

PostHeaderIcon Pininfarina’s Upcoming Electric SUV Will Just Be a Coachbuilt Rivian SUV

Pininfarina, the company that once acted as Ferrari’s favorite coachbuilder, will soon be in the business of making cars of its own. A supercar is planned, named PF0, as well as three SUVs. The fastest of the lot, known as PF1, will use the same platform as the Rivian R1S SUV and will target Lamborghini’s Urus in terms of performance.

It’s been almost 90 years since Battista Farina funded the Pinin Farina coachbuilding company and over half a century since the company’s name was changed to Pininfarina. Many cars have featured Pininfarina bodies over the years, beyond the countless Prancing Horses, and, now, a fleet of SUVs is in the oven beside the company’s own supercar.

PostHeaderIcon Lynk & Co 01 Coupe

Get ready for yet another coupe-like SUV, this time from a fledgling manufacturer that has yet to establish itself: Lynk & Co.
This time the vehicle in question currently doesn’t yet have a name, but we do know it is the more rakish and slightly less practical version of the high-riding 01 model.

The vehicle was recently spotted by our spies under thick camouflage, but we are able to make out its BMW X6-inspired rear end design, as well as the same front end as on the 01 – the car in the photos looks like it’s the same until the B-pillar, but from there on its roofline dips in fastback style.

Its interior and engine range will be the same, although the coupe variant of the SUV may come with sportier suspension tuning and slightly less emphasis on comfort – this is also what other manufacturers that have such vehicles do to give these models more than just a visual differentiation.

And in the not too distant future, we may start to see lots of Lynk & Co vehicles not only in Europe but also the States. Geely, the Chinese automotive giant that owns Lynk & Co (as well as Volvo), is examining possibilities to open manufacturing facilities in Gent, Belgiu as well as in North Carolina.

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen won’t abandon combustion engines but will focus on EVs beyond 2026

Volkswagen’s plans with the I.D. family are undoubtedly grand, and the German manufacturer is going to great lengths to make sure their upcoming EVs will be best-sellers from the word go, but internal combustion engines won’t be killed off by the end of 2026 as previously reported.

Remember VW’s plans to build 1,000,000 EVs a year by 2025? Well, the car maker from Wolfsburg is now aiming to roll out 15,000,000 cars based on the new MEB platform in the first wave. That calls for a continuous flow of money that will see Volkswagen cut costs by eliminating some of the ICE models from its lineup and curtail redundancies in various administrative departments.
