PostHeaderIcon Kia Ceed Crossover

Kia will soon launch an all-new high-riding crossover model based on its Ceed hatchback and, thanks to the first batch of spy photos showing a camouflaged prototype, we can start to tell you what it’s going to be like. The plan for this model is to slot in between the Stonic and Sportage in the Kia range, although judging by its overall shape it looks like a more hatchback-like crossover (like the Stonic) and not a more SUV-like model such as the larger Sportage. There’s definitely a new Kia Ceed look about this as of yet unnamed model, although it does look quite a bit higher than the regular hatch model. The automaker really wanted us not to see the details, so it covered the front and rear fascias with especially heavy camouflage that doesn’t really allow us to see anything.

We can, however, spot that it will have a similar face to the Ceed (the latest Kia family face), complete with headlights and grille that look similar to those of the hatch.

This model will go up against models such as the Ford Focus Active or Subaru Crosstrek (also known as the XV), some of which have all-wheel drive, others not – in this example, for instance, the Subaru has it as standard, while the Ford doesn’t get it at all and the big question with this Ceed crossover is whether or not it will be offered as an option; it definitely won’t have standard all-wheel drive like the Subaru, that’s for sure.

PostHeaderIcon Kia Ceed GT-Line

Hot hatches are big business in Europe, but not everybody wants the stiffer ride, or the higher associated fuel bills, which is why Kia has made the Ceed GT-Line which it revealed at the Paris motor show.

PostHeaderIcon Kia Will Expand Its Electrified Lineup by Turning the 2019 Ceed and Sportage into Plug-In Hybrids

Kia has been one of the top automakers to adopt electrification in its portfolio. At a point where other manufacturers would probably focus on stabilizing the sales of their present electrified models, Kia is relentlessly working towards increasing its fleet of plug-in hybrid models to counter CO2 emission regulations all across the globe. This is what commitment looks like: competition!

PostHeaderIcon Kia Ceed GT

This is the new Kia Ceed GT – something called a warm hatch and is destined to reach Europe in an effort to upscale the entire Ceed family there. It will do so along with the new Proceed Shooting Brake. None of these cars will ever be available in the U.S., but they do show rather impressive effort focused on Kia’s reimagination of its brand. Kia isn’t a super-cheap car producer anymore. It has a coupe-like sedan with 373 horsepower, a grille called Tiger Nose, and now the Ceed GT that is powered by a 1.6-liter, turbocharged engine that develops 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Yup, the very same engine you can get here in the Veloster. Actually, imagine that I am whispering to you now – the Ceed GT is really, really similar to the Veloster Turbo R-Spec. Only, it has a normal number of doors.

PostHeaderIcon Kia ProCeed

Kia has chosen to reimagine its next-gen ProCeed as a five-door fastback-like wagon, ditching the three-door layout of the previous model. Called a shooting brake by the company, and set to be revealed to the public next month at the Paris motor show, it is essentially a more rakish looking version of the load-lugging Ceed Sportwagon for those looking to blend practicality with making a more dramatic entrance.

This new ProCeed is slightly longer than the Sportwagon (by 5 mm) and a fair chunk shorter too (by 43 mm) and it even has a lower ground clearance too (also by 5 mm). Kia promises it’s still almost as practical as the actual wagon, though, offering only 30 liters less load volume.

Proceed will sit at the top of the Ceed lineup and Kia actually calls it “the most emotionally engaging car in the range.” It will, however, carry over all the engines found in the regular Ceed and also be offered as a sporty-looking GT Line model or warmed up GT.

PostHeaderIcon The Kia Proceed Looks Good From Behind!

Kia showcased the ProCeed Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. The wagon-like car was an attention-seeker at the show, and made us wonder if the production version would be anywhere close to this. Fast-forward one year, and Kia has finally revealed the production-spec Proceed. Well, by ‘reveal’ we mean a teaser image. Yes, a single image is all we get for now.

PostHeaderIcon Kia ProCeed GT

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the arrival of the Kia Proceed, and new spy shots of the sporty GT model has given rise to more speculation that the five-door fastback model is getting closer to its launch date. Kia hasn’t confirmed when that’s going to be, but all signs point to the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. If that ends up being the case, these spy photos of the five-door Proceed are arriving at just the right time.

PostHeaderIcon The Kia Proceed Shooting Brake Could Debut at the Paris Motor Show

The Kia Proceed Concept turned a lot of heads at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Initially thought of as a design study to determine the design direction of the next-generation Ceed, the positive reception surrounding the concept forced Kia to rethink its initial plans for the car. A production version is now in the works, and word on the street is that it will make its debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show this October.

PostHeaderIcon Report: The 2019 Kia Ceed Will Offer i30 N “Agility and Playfulness” in GT Trim

The Kia Ceed family is growing by the day. Fresh off a report that revealed a new Ceed SUV is on the way, a new report indicates that the Ceed will also come in a “more agile and playful” Ceed GT that will draw similarities to the Hyundai i30 N. It’s essentially Kia’s very own hot hatch, and it’s scheduled to launch in 2019.

left
right
“The Ceed GT’s development will be spearheaded by no less than Albert Biermann, the same performance guru that quarterbacked the development of the i30 N.”

Should we be surprised that Kia’s looking to make a name for itself in the hot hatch segment? Hyundai’s doing it with the i30 N so to see Kia do the same is hardly a head-scratcher anymore.

It certainly bodes well for those who are looking for a Kia hot hatch that news of a Ceed GT came directly from Kia Europe’s marketing boss, Artur Martins. Speaking to Autocar, Martins said that the Ceed GT’s development will be spearheaded by no less than Albert Biermann, the same performance guru that quarterbacked the development of the i30 N.

“With Albert’s involvement you will see similar handling and balance, although not at that level [of performance],” Martins said. “It will be more fun than the old car, but it will not be as focused as the i30 N.”

Report: The 2019 Kia Ceed Will Offer i30 N "Agility and Playfulness" in GT Trim - image 768740
“The Ceed GT should also have a more aggressive look than its standard Ceed counterpart”

That last bit was backed up by the Hyundai and Kia’s powertrain boss, Michael Winkler, who told Autocar that the Ceed GT will not be as “extreme” as the i30 N. Given this bit of information, it’s unlikely that Kia would use the N-tuned 2.0-liter four-cylinder pot that sits under the hood of the i30 N. Winkler didn’t specify the kind of engine the Ceed GT will use, but two likely candidates are possible: a detuned version of the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a performance version of the 48v mild-hybrid powertrain that the Ceed will eventually receive. In either scenario, look for the output to be in the 200-horsepower range.

It’s not going to be conquering cars like the Renault Sport Megane RS or the Ford Focus ST, but it would still be enough to have its own sporty characteristics, enough to compete against a car like the Volkswagen Golf GTI.

On the physical front, the Ceed GT should also have a more aggressive look than its standard Ceed counterpart, though a bit more conservative compared to the i30N. Once the Ceed GT hits the market sometime in 2019, look for Kia to turn its attention on giving the Ceed wagon its own GT variant, one that will focus more on the brand’s GT-Line trim as opposed to receiving a modified engine and chassis.

PostHeaderIcon Kia Marketing Boss Confirms a Ceed SUV is in the Works

The all-new Kia Ceed will eventually grow into an entire family of new models that will include a compact SUV. The surprising revelation came from Artur Martins, Kia’s vice president of marketing, who told Auto Express that the new SUV will sit beneath Sportage and will act as the brand’s champion against models like the Volkswagen T-Roc. Details are still unclear, but the model is expected to arrive sometime in the middle of 2019.

“Even with the rapid growth of the crossover and SUV markets, there was no sign from Kia that it was planning to add an SUV to the Ceed lineup”

Raise your hands if you saw this one coming. Even with the rapid growth of the crossover and SUV markets, there was no sign from Kia that it was planning to add an SUV to the Ceed lineup. But it’s happening, at least according to the automaker’s vice president of marketing, Artur Martins.

This is something we are putting on the table,” he said. “There will be no three-door with this car, so that gives us the chance to have another body type of the [Ceed] car.”

The inclusion of a Ceed SUV would raise the nameplate’s lineup to include a healthy of models. We already know about the hatchback and sedan versions. There’s also going to be a wagon version, a performance-based GT version of the hatchback, and a shooting brake estate that will be based on the Proceed Concept that we saw at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The variation across the Ceed lineup is a good thing for Kia as it continues to build on its goal of increasing its market share in all the affected segments. Clearly, Kia has big plans for the Ceed now that the third-generation model has arrived.

“Clearly, Kia has big plans for the Ceed now that the third-generation model has arrived.”

It’s going to be interesting to see how Kia approaches this expansion in light of where the markets are at the moment. For his part, Martins thinks that to be relevant, Kia needs to take some swings and not limit itself to where it’s already comfortable. “We overperform in D-segment and SUVs – we have around 7 percent market share,” he said. “We have a chance to increase volume, but we have to change the recipe, we have to come with a different proposition, something more relevant.”

A Kia Ceed SUV would fit that proposition. Now it’s on Kia to make sure that the Ceed SUV lives up to the automaker’s own expectations.

PostHeaderIcon Kia Shows off the All-New Kia Ceed Prior to its Geneva Debut

Kia is set to pull the covers off of the Ceed hatch at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. There are a lot of new details about the hatchback, but none is more important than Kia’s decision to spell the Ceed’s name the way it’s supposed to in the first place. Bye bye, apostrophe. We’re glad you’re gone.

Kia Shows off the All-New Kia Ceed Prior to its Geneva Debut - image 768724
“The good news is that a lot about the Ceed has changed for the better with the arrival of the new model”

I don’t recall a car whose name is as talked about as the Ceed. The decision to drop the pointless apostrophe opened the door for Kia to instead promote the car’s equally perplexing acronym. Apparently, “Ceed” stands for “Community of Europe, with European Design.” If that was the acronym all along, shouldn’t Kia have used a comma instead of an apostrophe?

Ok, mindless rant over.

Ultimately, the name is irrelevant compared to what the hatchback has to offer. The good news is that a lot about the Ceed has changed for the better with the arrival of the new model. The bodyshell and structure are largely new, though the suspension and a few of the engine options are carried over from the previous model.

Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille remains as the centerpiece of the car’s front section. There are also hints of the Stinger scattered around the car’s design, particularly the arrangement of the lights and the aforementioned grille. Speaking of the lights, all versions of the new Ceed get those “ice cube” daytime running lights as standard. If you want to spice it up, LED headlamps are also available as options. Move to the rear, and you’ll see the Ceed sport more distinctive taillights than its predecessor.

“The floating digital clock on the dashboard has gone by the wayside in favor of a more traditional — and cleaner-looking — dash”

There are a number of things in the interior that’s also worth mentioning. Some of the controls remain the same, but the layout of the center console has changed. The most prominent of these changes is the position of the seven-inch display. Whereas it used to occupy the space below the A/C vents and was surrounded by toggles and buttons, the new display is now level with and flanked by the vents. The floating digital clock on the dashboard has gone by the wayside in favor of a more traditional — and cleaner-looking — dash. Prospective owners also get a range of options depending on the trim. Items like faux-leather, aluminum, glossy plastics, and real leather are all available as standard equipment on the right trim.

“There’s also a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated engine that can produce 99 horsepower and a range-topping 1.4-liter unit that has 138 horses at its disposal”

Power comes in the form of various engine options, including a 1.6-liter diesel that produces either 113 horsepower or 134 horsepower depending on the state of tune. A 1.0-liter gas unit is also available. That’s good for 118 ponies. There’s also a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated engine that can produce 99 horsepower and a range-topping 1.4-liter unit that has 138 horses at its disposal. All units come with a six-speed manual transmission, though there is an option to get a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox if you get either the 1.4-liter gas mill or its 1.6-liter diesel counterpart.

PostHeaderIcon Kia Kills Pro Cee’d Hatchback to Make Another Dumb SUV

Yet another car falls victim to the SUV craze as Kia quietly kill off the three-door Pro Cee’d Hatchback to make room in its lineup for another SUV. This SUV is expected to slip in below the Kia Stonic and Kia Sportage and will compete against models like the Seat Ateca and Nissan Qashqai. Word has it that it will be an all-new design, but will borrow cues from the rest of KIA’s SUV range. It, too, will go by the Pro Cee’d name and will be an addition next to a now-confirmed shooting brake model as well. Want to know more? Keep reading for more info!

2017 Kia Proceed Concept - image 731389

The new Pro Cee’d in hatchback form will make its debut in early 2018 with the shooting brake version coming shortly thereafter (most likely at the following auto show.) The new SUV has yet to receive even a potential debut date, but with the new hatch and shooting brake coming in early 2018, a Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2018 wouldn’t be out of the question. With that said, the model has been spied previously with the most recent spotting happening on the Nurburgring. You can expect a number of engines from the Hyundai i30 to make their way into the new SUV as it does share the same platform. For what it’s worth, it isn’t like this model will ever find its way to the States as Kia has been focusing quite largely on the European market as of late and that’s exactly where the new Pro Cee’d SUV is heading too.

TopSpeed’s Take

2017 Kia Proceed Concept - image 731386

At this point, it seems like the SUV craze is never going to die. But, like all things, the craze will eventually come to an end. Hopefully, it happens at a time when it’s right for most automakers to revamp their lineups, but a little part of me hopes that SUVs suddenly prove to be worthless and automakers are sent scrambling not to find themselves belly up with massive inventories of SUVs that nobody wants. That might sound cruel, but we’ve seen a lot of cool cars killed off for SUVs and everyone seems to forget that they are only so hot because of the price of gas at the moment. If gas prices go up, all those little cars will suddenly become relevant again – just like they did in the last recession – and SUVs will fizzle away, left only in the limited interest of those who can afford to burn a gallon for every 19 miles. Will it happen? It’s possible, but if it doesn’t, it almost seems like the future will hold nothing but large SUVs with smaller cars and sedans become more of a luxury. Funny how the tides can turn, huh?

PostHeaderIcon Kia Proceed Concept

Launched in 2006 as a replacement for the Cerato, the Kia Cee’d is now one of the company’s most popular vehicles in Europe. Redesigned in 2012 into a more modern, better-looking car, the Cee’d, along with its Procee’d, GT, and station wagon variants, is getting a little long in the tooth, and a third-generation model is likely under way for 2018. While we don’t know much about it, Kia unveiled the Proceed concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, giving us a good glimpse of what the next-gen Cee’d might bring to the table.

Described as an “extended hot hatch that presents a new body type for Kia,” the Proceed concept appears to be the bastard child of a Kia Stinger and a low, sleek shooting brake. And it’s one of Kia’s most intriguing design to date. Not surprisingly, it was penned at the company’s European design center in Frankfurt, only 500 meters (0.3 miles) from where it will be unveiled. Kia also says that the Proceed concept indicates what the next-generation Cee’d “could look like,” so we might be looking at a fancier version of the upcoming hatchback.

PostHeaderIcon Kia’s Upcoming Shooting Brake Concept has us Saying “Please Take our Money!”

The 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is just around the corner and, as usual, we’re in for a ton of debuts including both production and concept cars. Kia, which runs a design center just 500 meters from the Frankfurt Motor Show, is among carmakers that will bring new products to the event. The company’s main highlight is a concept car that presents “a new body type for Kia.” It doesn’t have a name yet, but the Korean manufacturer points out that it indicates what the next-generation Cee’d “could look like.”

It’s bold, athletic, and indeed brings a new body style to the current Kia lineup. While the company describes it as an “extended hot hatch,” it’s actually some kind of modern shooting brake. Or a really sleek wagon with an almost fastback rear end. But it’s gorgeous, and the really wide wheel arches, the sculpted side skirts, and the rear diffuser suggest we’re looking at a performance model. Kia didn’t share any actual details about the car, but I might have an idea about what it may be. Keep reading to find out.
