Draped in Rosso Corsa and sporting an array of LED light bars, this thing is deliciously sacrilegious. And check out the wheels, which appear as through they were plucked from an F40. Splendid.

This thing has exactly that, with a taller suspension, big knobby tires, and uber-tough skid plates, all of which should help it go, well, anywhere! And with 700 horsepower on tap, you can bet it’ll get there mighty quick as well.

Of course, you gotta keep the quad-boosted 8.0-liter W-16 intact, because 1,500 ponies in the dirt just feels right. Don’t worry – the AWD and monster rubber should handle it all just fine.

We love videos like this. They just feel right – Stuttgart’s performance superstar going flat-out on an unrestricted stretch of the autobahn? Yes, please! Assuming the starring role is a 991-era GT2 RS, which was introduced just a few months back rocking an incredible 700 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque thanks to a twin-turbo, 3.8-liter, flat-six powerplant hanging out back. Properly applied, Porsche says it’s enough motivation to push the German powerhouse to 211 mph. That’s blisteringly quick but, as evidenced by the above-featured 3-minute, 22-second video, the 911 GT2 RS might go much, much faster.

After some nice establishing shots showing a selection of 911s out on the track, plus a silver GT2 RS filling its tank at a gas station, the video moves to an angle of the gauge pod, where we watch the machine accelerate from a standstill. The driver engages launch control and takes off like a scalded cat, very quickly passing the ploddingly slow speed limits we must endure here in the U.S. The driver stays in it, maxing out the revs in every gear before eventually topping out at an incredible 356 kph (221.2 mph) as indicated by the onboard speedometer. Apparently, a separate GPS device recorded 342 kph (212.5 mph), which is still pretty damn quick, if you ask us. Either way, it’s impressive to watch as this track-bred piece of precision engineering is taken to the limit. There are even some ending glory shots of the GT2 RS paying its respects at Porsche headquarters.

I knew that the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS was amazing fast, but boy, I certainly didn’t see this coming. The German manufacturer just posted the car’s official lap on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, and it turns out that the 911 GT2 RS almost set a new world record at six minutes and 47 seconds. Porsche actually claims it is a new world record, but this depends on whether we take the NextEV Nio EP9’s lap of 6:45.90 minute into account. Either way, the 911 GT2 RS is the quickest Porsche ever and the fastest gasoline-powered vehicle on the “Green Hell.”

Less than two seconds slower than NextEV’s all-electric sports car, the 911 GT2 RS completed the Nordschleife almost a second quicker than the Radical SR8LM, which held the record for a whopping seven years. More impressively, it lapped the German course almost five seconds quicker than the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and almost 10 clicks faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder! This amazing benchmark took even Porsche by surprise, with the company’s vice president of motorsport and GT cars claiming the Germans set a target of “less than seven minutes and five seconds.” Beating it by almost 18 seconds is quite the achievement.

The Fastest Porsche Ever Built!

This new lap time not only puts the 911 GT2 RS at the top of the all-time Nurburgring benchmarks but also speaks volumes of the car’s performance. Let’s face it, GT2 and GT3 Porsches have always been among the fastest road-legal sports cars, but to be quicker than the 919 Spyder and supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador SV, Nissan GT-R Nismo, and Gumpert Apollo Speed places you in a whole new league. And unlike some of the records out there, Porsche ran this impressive lap with a stock car. Now that’s a record that’s tough to beat, and it will probably take a successor to the 919 Spyder to do it.

When you’re a car that holds the distinction of being the most powerful Porsche 911 ever built, there is an inherent pressure that comes with trying to live up to the claim. The new 911 GT2 RS knows this all too well because it is the most powerful 911 ever created. It has 690 horsepower on tap. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. And it has a top speed that can break 200 mph. All these numbers are rightfully impressive, but how do they help justify the GT2 RS’ billing? Bring it to the Nürburgring.

A fresh report from Bridge to Gantry confirmed the 911 GT2 RS did put in a few laps around the track recently. More importantly, though, the same source is reporting that the most powerful 911 actually did more than just go a few laps around the famous race track; it actually posted a sub-seven-minute lap time around the Nordschleife. Granted, there’s no confirmation from Porsche or any other source that the 911 GT2 RS actually did this, but Bridge to Gantry believes that the sports car accomplished this, even going so far as to show two separate photos of the car on the same turn (Turn 13) with less than seven minutes between them, as shown by timestamps on both photos. So did the Porsche 911 GT2 RS really blitz the Nordschleife in scintillating fashion, or is there more to these claims than meets the eye? The evidence does look circumstantial at best, but still, I wouldn’t put it past the 911 GT2 RS to do it. After all, it is the same model that hit 209 mph at the ‘Ring last July.

I cop to being a bit of a snob to the Nürburgring production car lap record, but I will admit that I’m looking forward to seeing the Porsche 911 GT2 RS hit the Nordschleife to do its official lap time. Part of my interest is because I just want the lap time to be over and done with so we can stop speculating on whether it can or can’t do it. But another part of me is legitimately intrigued about the prospect of seeing the sports car try to wrestle the record away from the Lamborghini Huracán Performante.

If the 911 GT2 RS is capable of posting a sub-seven-minute lap time, it would become just the fourth production car to ever do it, joining the Huracán Performante, the Porsche 918 Spyder, and the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce. Even if it does do less than seven minutes easily, it’ll still have to go at least eight seconds ahead of that time to beat the Huracán Performante. That’s no small feat even for a car that’s as vaunted as the Porsche.

That said, I still want to see it, largely because everyone seems to think that the GT2 RS can do it. The car showed it had the pace to tackle the ‘Ring when no less than Mark Webber confirmed that the 911 hit 209 mph at the race track. For some context, the Lamborghini Aventador SV – the same car that posted a lap time of 6:59.73 – topped out at 202 mph while the reigning record-holder, the Huracán Performante, only reached 189 mph on the back straight of the Nordschleife.

There are tests and numbers that point to the 911 GT2 RS’ chances of staking its claim as the new King of the Nürburgring. These photos from Bridge to Gantry add even more fuel to that fire to the point that the only thing that really needs to be down is to unleash the 911 GT2 RS and see what lap time it can really pull out.

The time for talking and gossiping is over. It’s time, Porsche. Bring the car to the ‘Ring and see if it can deliver.

Same goes for former Formula One and Porsche racer Mark Webber. Together, the two combine for almost 50 years worth of racing experience, so for them to be left speechless and catching their breath at the same time must involve something completely epic and downright mental. Is it too early treat the Porsche 911 GT2 RS in those terms because both Rohl and Webber were left at a loss after taking the 911 GT2 RS out for a drive?

And how are you folks doing? I assume “just dandy” is the answer. It’s Friday; the weekend is just around the corner, all is good. Well, no! Everything’s not so good. Not when big carmakers are unveiling cool cars that are already sold out. Sounds familiar? Yup, I’m ranting about the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS again. How can I not? How in the hell do you launch a 1,000-example limited edition that’s already sold out by the time you unveil the car to the public?

I totally get that these exotic cars are very popular with collectors and some are willing to pay ludicrous amounts of hard-earned to get their hands on one, but what’s the point of launching an online configurator if you can’t get a car to a potential customer? It’s like giving us a configurator for the Porsche 959. You can’t buy this car anymore, but hey, here’s a nice configurator to play with the options. PostHeaderIcon Porsche 911 GT2 RS – From 444 to 700 Horsepower

Porsche has been offering high-performance versions of the 911 since the early 1970s, with the most iconic model being the Carrera 2.7 RS. But once the Germans adopted turbocharging, the traditional RS stepped down, making room for a new range-topping sports car, the 911 GT2. First introduced in 1993, the GT2 is now in its fourth generation, which is based on the 991.2 model. It’s faster, more powerful, and more aerodynamic than its predecessor, while also boasting more technology than ever. Thenew GT2 RS is a massive departure from the first GT2 from more than two decades ago under the skin, and we’re going to look at those changes in a drivetrain comparison for all four generations.

The GT2 was born out of the 993-generation 911 as a homologation vehicle for motorsport purpose. Built to meet GT2 class regulations, the road cars were named accordingly and the nameplate survived to this day. The first GT2 was discontinued in 1998, but Porsche revived the badge in 2002 for the 996 model. After three years, it was again discontinued, only to return as the 997 GT2 in 2008. The 997 was also the first GT2 to get an RS designation, which was offered in very limited numbers from 2010 to 2012. Come 2017 and the GT2 returns to the market as an RS model only. Since 1993, the drivetrain not only swapped air-cooled for water-cooled engines, but also gained more displacement a lot more power. Let’s find out more about that below.

The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS has been tipped as the fastest and most powerful production 911 in history. It’s also the most expensive one with a starting price tag of $294,250. The good news is that those 1,000 customers who managed to reserve a slot for the 911 GT2 RS will also get some freebies along the way for their trouble. One such freebie is the Porsche Design 911 GT2 RS Chronograph, the first-ever watch from Porsche Design whose clock movement was developed in-house.

As with most premium watches, the 911 GT2 RS Chronograph strikes quite an impression. Design elements from the actual 911 GT2 RS were used to highlight the unique look of the watch, from the tungsten winding rotor that was inspired by the wheel patterns of the sports car to the carbon fiber clock face and the display the takes from the design of the tachometer. Functionally, the chronograph features a caliber 01.200 that includes a flyback function and a load-path-optimized movement bridge. Oh, and it also comes with a titanium case just in case the level of premium exclusivity isn’t evident enough. The Porsche Design 911 GT2 RS Chronograph is a nice ancillary add-on to a car that packs 700 horsepower and is limited to just 1,000 units. Too bad then that even if some of you want one, you’ll be hard-pressed to get it now that the sports car that it comes with are all accounted for.

The GT2 has been the range-topping model of the 911 range for nearly 25 years now, having been introduced in 1993. However, Porsche’s hardcore sports car hasn’t been around for every model year, with each generation discontinued after a short while on the market. So while the GT2 nameplate turns 24 in 2017, it was actually in production for some 12 years before the fourth-generation model arrived. Not only that, but it was also built in limited numbers that sold out extremely quickly, especially in recent years. All told, it’s not surprising that the latest GT2 RS was so anticipated and that its unveiling at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed created so much fuss.

But is the new 911 GT2 a significant improvement over its predecessor? Given that it’s based on the latest-generation 911, it’s safe to assume that the answer is yes, but is it notably different or are wee looking at a revised design with a more powerful engine? Expected to make a comeback after five years, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS returned to the market at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It took an unofficial unveiling at a tech show and numerous reports about its performance, but it’s finally here. And as it usually happens, the official launch came with a new online configurator. Sure, I could argue that the limited-edition GT2 RS is already sold out and the configurator is pretty much useless now, but we can at least have some fun with it.

Options are very similar to the 911 GT3, meaning you can customize a lot of features, both inside and out. You can also add performance-enhancing parts, as well as opt for Porsche’s already iconic Delivery Experience program, which delivers the car to Atlanta in the U.S. and Zuffenhausen or Leipzig in Germany. PostHeaderIcon The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Wants To Break The Seven-Minute Mark Around The Nürburgring

Whether or not you believe in the significance of the Nürburgring lap time record, what’s important is that automakers thing highly enough of it that they’re willing to make chest-puffing claims about their car’s ability to tackle the 12.2-mile race track. Porsche is no different and it has proven as much by being one of the most prominent brands to uphold the sanctity of the Nürburgring production lap time record. It once held that title with the Porsche 918 Spyder’s blistering lap time of 6:57, but now it’s calling its own shot by claiming that the new 911 GT2 RS will be able to join the hypercar as the only two Porsche models in history to post a sub-seven-minute lap time.

Frank-Steffen Walliser, the man behind Porsche’s GT program, dropped some hints of the new sports car’s performance abilities, telling Motoring that the new 911 GT2 RS is “no seven at the Nürburgring,” before adding that fans will have to “wait and see” and give the company “some time” to “check it.” It’s not exactly the most convincing way to call your own shot, but Walliser did say that the company will use the same exact specification of the engine and tires as the production car. No gimmicks here, apparently. There’s no timetable set for when Porsche plans to do the 911 GT2 RS’ Nürburgring run, but rest assured, all eyes will be on Stuttgart’s most powerful production 911 when it does set off for that lap.

This became more than evident when various publications tried to reach out for comment regarding rumors that all 1,000 examples had already been spoken for. With that in mind, the GT2 RS is set to make its “official debut” this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Before that could happen, however, someone decided to leak some official images, like the ones shown above, on Rennlist early this morning.

Now, it’s pretty clear that nothing has changed since we saw the new GT2 RS at E3, but this time around we get a look at the rear (the only rear shot we had before was from Forza 7 pre-alpha gameplay) and finally get to see what’s going on inside – at least to an extent, anyway. The most notable thing about the interior is the perfect split of red and black coloring. The headlights, A-pillars, B-pillars, central arm rest, seat centers, and steering wheel are all wrapped in red Alcantara, while the dash looks to get a healthy dose of black Alcantara mixed in with some leather and red contrast stitching. There are also red accents on the door trim panels and the gear shifter, while carbon fiber trim adorns the seat chassis, seat side bumpers, and the face trim of the dash. Finally, there is red embroidery on the front of the headrests and a pretty gnarly looking roll cage behind the front seats.
Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. But, let’s talk more about what else we can expect.
