PostHeaderIcon Porsche’s Design Division Gets Its Hands On The Latest Macan S

All of you must have heard of Porsche’s in-house design division unless you are living under the rock. Known as Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, it became famous for working on the pre-facelift version of the Macan Turbo last year. Moniker’d as the Macan Turbo Exclusive Performance Edition, Porsche priced it at €166,091 ($190,492) – more than twice the price of two entry-level Macans. Now, the new Macan S is going under the Porsche Exclusive Knife.

PostHeaderIcon 7 Best Used Compact SUVs from 2016

Compact SUVs are the way to go these days. They are neither bulky like ladder-on-frame SUVs nor nimble like soon-to-be-extinct sedans. Compact SUVs are targeted to people from all walks of life; a performance SUV for the young-blood, a spacious SUV for families, and so on. Even the price bracket is huge. In this list, we have listed the best compact SUVs from 2016 that you can purchase on the used market.

The company’s smallest crossover yet, the Porsche Macan arrived in 2014 and slotted under the highly popular Cayenne. After four years on the market, the compact SUV was updated to mid-cycle specifications. The Macan S is very similar to the base model we saw hit the spotlight earlier in 2018 on the outside. It’s identical inside the cabin as well save for the trim-specific features. However, it’s a different story under the hood, as the “S” badge comes in tow with a larger, 3.0-liter V-6. What’s more, while the four-banger lost a few horses with the facelift, the V-6 delivers a bit more power and torque.

PostHeaderIcon 2020 Porsche Macan S: New Engine, More Power, Same Sexy Appearance

The Porsche Macan often gets overshadowed by its bigger and more accomplished brother, the Porsche Cayenne. But, that’s about to change because the new Macan S breaks the crossover out of its shell. Not only is the 2019 Macan S sexier, but it also packs a new engine that produces more power than its predecessor. Those three elements are the biggest highlights of the new Macan S, underscoring what we’ve all been waiting for from the model since it first arrived in 2014. Put together; the new Macan S sheds its rough-around-the-edges label in favor of a more balanced ride. Don’t look now, but it appears that Porsche’s entry-level crossover is ready for the big leagues. The new Porsche Macan S starts at $58,600.

PostHeaderIcon The All-New Euro-Spec 2019 Porsche Macan Revealed in Paris

Porsche has released the technical specifications of the Euro-sped 2019 Macan today at the Paris Motor Show. Even though the crossover was showcased a couple of months back, the Stuttgart marquee had not revealed any information about it for the European market. The Euro-spec edition comes with changes all around and a new engine as well.

PostHeaderIcon 10 Best Handling Crossovers on the Market

Crossovers are vehicles designed to look like they can go off-road, but really be at their best on the road. Sure, some can do light off-roading, but realistically you won’t want to stray too far from the blacktop or the occasional bumpy gravel backroad.

To this end it’s not trivial to know which of these 4×4-aping high riders are best out on the open (and sometimes twisty) road, since it’s where they will spend most of their time. But don’t go thinking that they are on par with more conventional car shapes, because their higher center of gravity and usually higher mass will affect handling.

Safety is at the top of buyers’ lists these days, but what many don’t think about when browsing lists of cars rated with safety stars is that good, predictable road manners and sharp handling are one of the biggest safety features a car can have, since they allow the driver to avoid crashing in the first place.

And while crossovers may give occupants a feeling of extra safety when they’re on board, their poor road manners bring this into question.

Here’s a list of the 10 best handling high-riding vehicles ever made.

PostHeaderIcon Wallpaper of the Day: 2019 Porsche Macan

The Porsche Macan took another 911-inspired update for 2019, ushering in a mid-cycle facelift worthy of the brand name. The front end received heavy revisions, including updated corner vents and an updated grille. The daytime running lights were even lowered too, a move that somehow makes the front end sportier than before. Those quad LED headlights come standard on all models while the new apron is more aggressive than before – a nice touch to say the least. The rear end even took on a new diffuser-like element, if that’s what you would call this better-side-of-bland fascia insert. The interior even took new updates, including a larger infotainment screen and a new steering wheel, while the chassis even saw some updates for better driving dynamics. In the end, the 2019 Macan is a gorgeous piece of German engineering, so we decided to make it our wallpaper of the day. We’ve included a pretty awesome hand-picked example below, but we also have a sizable gallery that’s free for the taking as well. Go ahead and knock yourself out!

When Porsche decided to step into the SUV segment with the Cayenne, Porsche purists weren’t all that happy, expecting the brand to soldier on with different 911 variants until times end. But, the Cayenne turned out to be a huge success, and the German brand decided to come out with a compact model named the Macan. Launched in 2014, the Macan just got its mid-cycle facelift for the 2019 model year.

While not as popular as the Cayenne, the Macan was also met with great enthusiasm. Porsche delivered more than 350,000 units from 2014 until 2018, with more than 25 percent of them shipped to China. As a result, the Germans paid big attention to this upgrade and made significant changes inside and out. Unfortunately, those of you who expected more powerful engines will be disappointed. But more on that in the review below.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Macan Gains 911 Looks, More Equipment

Introduced in 2014 as a smaller alternative to the already iconic Cayenne, the Porsche Macan is a sales success with more than 350,000 units delivered in four years. The German manufacturer is now looking to add to the momentum with a mid-cycle update that makes the crossover sportier than ever before and adds new equipment inside the cabin.

PostHeaderIcon Watch the Porsche Macan Get Dirty During High-Altitude Testing

The Porsche Macan has been in our lives since 2014, and it’s proven to be a wallop for the German automaker. More than 350,000 examples of the baby SUV has sold since it hit the road four years ago, and now, the facelifted model is making its own waves after being captured in camouflaged form in Lesotho as its underbody got acquainted with the salts of the earth at heights reaching 3,400 meters (11,155 feet) above sea level.

When Porsche decided to step into the SUV segment with the Cayenne, Porsche purists we’re all that happy, expecting the brand to soldier on with different 911 variants until times end. But, the Cayenne turned out to be a huge success, and the German brand decided to come out with a compact model named the Macan. Originally codenamed Cajun, the Macan hit the market in the spring of 2014 and became an immediate success, being one of Porsche’s most sold models. Be that as it may, the compact luxury segment is intense, so Porsche needs to keep things fresh until the next-gen model comes to be at the turn of the decade.

Now, we’re getting a first look at the facelifted model thanks to a new round of spy shots. There won’t be a whole lot of change on the table, but the headlights and taillights should get a new layout, and it looks like there’s a bigger chin spoiler up front. The interior is set for some minor nips and tucks as well, and the available engines could get some minor retuning to help keep things interesting.

With that said, we know Porsche’s facelifts aren’t typically that in-depth, so there won’t be a lot of significant change, but the subtle things will make all the difference. We expect the facelifted Macan to debut sometime in the next few months and should be sold as a 2018 model, so let’s take a closer look before Porsche spills the beans.

Update 06/12/2108: It’s been a while since we’ve last seen the facelifted Porsche Macan doing cold-weather testing but we’ve finally seen it again, and this time it’s rocking the pre-production green paint that Porsche is known to use just before it goes into production. That means a debut is imminent and there are a few new details to send your way. Check out our spy shots section below to learn all about it.

PostHeaderIcon What’s Under the Hood of the 2019 Porsche Macan? It’s not a Diesel, That’s for Sure

The Porsche Macan is about to go through a mid-life cycle facelift, and one of the biggest changes to the model is the complete elimination of diesel engines and the addition of new and updated gas engines. The table of engine options are the biggest changes to the facelifted Macan, but they’re also complemented by updates on the exterior, chassis, and suspension.

PostHeaderIcon Wallpaper of the Day: 2017 Porsche Macan GTS

The Porsche Macan GTS may be slotted between the Macan S and Macan Turbo in terms of pricing, and power, but its track-focused looks, impressive performance characteristics, and all-around hyped-up looks will likely make the GTS the most desirable of the Macan trim levels. And, now, you can have it on your desktop.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Macan GT3 RS

“GT3 RS” is a unique series letters that carries a whole lotta weight when it comes to the Stuttgart faithful. This is the label used for Porsche’s homologation efforts, harkening back to 911’s of old where speed potential and track readiness were maximized for the ultimate in mean-machine German street offerings. Less weight through extensive use of composite materials and plastic windows, bigger, purposeful aerodynamic enhancements, wider, grippier tires, and of course, an extra splash of power are all expected when those five little letters are in play. Whether it’s prowling the highways or attacking the Karussell at the Nurburgring, the GT3 RS is not to be trifled with. Which makes it a strange thing to see when it’s plastered on a tall-bodied SUV, no? How could such a thing exist without diluting the nameplate for future hardcore models?

That’s a difficult question to answer, but Porsche certainly isn’t afraid to ask it. After all, this is the same company that brought us the Cayenne, considered to be one of the first in a wave of performance SUVs to hit the U.S. in the past decade and a half. What’s more, the competition has caught scent as well. Consider such outrageous creations as the Range Rover Sport SVR, Mercedes-AMG GLE63, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. In company like this, why not make a hell-bent, track-ready, monster Macan?

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Showcases The Personalization Potential Of The Macan

Of all the cars in Porsche’s current lineup, the Porsche Macan is the one model that’s still searching for an identity. That’s not a dig at the crossover; it is, rather, a product of circumstance given that it’s one of the newest models in the company’s lineup. But just because the Macan doesn’t have the status of the 911 or the popularity of the Cayenne doesn’t mean that it can’t score a taste of the high side of personalization, as this particular Macan example is proudly showing us.

To be clear, this isn’t a one-off, exclusive take on the Macan. It’s not even a special edition model. Rather, it’s an example of what Porsche is able to do with its baby crossover should a customer want to really dive deep into personalization. It’s based on the Macan Turbo and is decked all around with Porsche’s Performance Package, hence the sportier appearance. It also gets a unique livery that touches on Porsche’s racing history. Think the Macan already looks good dressed in all black? How about a two-tone color scheme with the other half of the body in white and throw in red and silver racing stripes for good measure? I can’t say that this kind of personalized treatment will be universally accepted, but as far as Porsche is concerned, this example isn’t as important as the message it’s conveying, which is to say that Porsche is open for your Macan personalization needs.

PostHeaderIcon TopSpeed’s Top 5 Physics-Defying Performance Crossovers And SUVs

Technology has a very strange habit of turning the impossible (or at the very least, the improbable) into reality. This is especially true in the automotive world, where seemingly contradictory attributes manage to find a happy middle ground with surprising regularity. Case in point – the performance crossover and SUV segment. Once a body style relegated to utility, the modern tall-bodied, cargo-tastic crossover or SUV can now be had with a heavy dose of speed as well, apparently defying the laws of physics with mammoth grip and absurd levels of power. These days, it doesn’t matter if a model is heavy and huge – add the right parts, and it’ll be quick as well.

It’s a combination that seems to be growing in popularity, with a nice assortment of options available across the market. As such, we’ve collected five of the best right here for your perusal. Each offers a decent amount of cargo space, high levels of luxury, and the option for performance as well, all for a price tag around $70,000 (give or take). Our picks look like this – BMW X3 M, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, Mercedes-AMG GLC63, Porsche Macan Turbo, and Land Rover Range Rover Sport. We’ve got the lowdown on each right here, so read on for more info. And don’t forget to post your favorite in the comments section below!

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Macan Turbo By Wimmer RS

The Porsche Macan’s introduction in 2013 signalled a renewed commitment from the German automaker to double down on its SUV offerings after the incredible success generated by the Cayenne. A few years later and the Macan has already established a presence of its own, one that has gotten the attention of aftermarket tuners all over the world. One aftermarket specialist that has definitely taken a liking to the Macan Turbo is Wimmer Rennsporttechik, which is now offering a tuning program for the Porsche crossover in partnership with fellow tuner Schmidt Revolution. The result is a two-prong kit defined by a new set of wheels and an engine upgrade that nets an output of 434 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.

In truth, the this program is a simple and subtle one. There are no exterior or interior upgrades. It doesn’t even have any modifications on the chassis and suspension. It’s a straightforward engine-and-wheel upgrade that isn’t going to suspend anybody’s disbelief. But for what it’s worth, Wimmer worked on giving the Macan Turbo an added shot of power, which is what the aftermarket tuning scene is largely about anyway. And together with Schmidt Revolution’s new set of wheels, prospective customers will get some benefits out of this upgrade, provided they don’t expect anything outlandish to come out of it.

If those are the expectations, then prepare to be disappointed. But if it’s an extra layer of refinement that’s needed, Wimmer’s program for the Porsche Macan Turbo fits that bill to a tee.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Macan

Remember when Porsche released the Cayenne? Remember all the people in their Porsche owners club shirts sitting around and telling you about how this new SUV was a disgrace to the Porsche logo and that all the company should design and produce are 911 variants? Well, the Cayenne turned out to be a real success, so the company decided to further expand its SUV lineup with the addition of a new model placed under the Cayenne.

After being tested for a very long time, the new Macan finally made its world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Initially, the model was rumored to be called “Cajun,” but Porsche opted for “Macan” – a name coming from the Indonesian word for tiger. According to Porsche, the name symbolizes the Macan as a model that is “powerful and ready to pounce at any time, yet light-footed and tenacious on off-road terrain.”

Initially, the Macan was only offered in “Turbo” and “S” form here in the U.S., but eventually, the Macan GTS was made available as well. This year. Porsche is expanding the Macan Linup even further with a new entry-level model that will also be available in the U.S. The ordering books are already open, and Porsche expects deliveries for the 2017 model year to begin in July of 2016.

Updated 03/11/2016: Porsche announced that for the 2017 model year, the Macan will be offered with a new turbocharged 2.0 liter engine with a total output of 252 horsepower. The new version will go on sale in July at a starting price of $47,500.
