PostHeaderIcon In the Future Cars and Traffic Signals Will Talk To Each Other but Will it Happen Before Level 5 Autonomy?

The world’s top automakers are working towards creating a technology that would allow cars and traffic signals to communicate with each other. This way, there won’t be any major congestion, carbon footprint would be reduced, and there would be fewer accidents. Given the traffic conditions, this is the need of the hour, but is it feasible while humans are still behind the wheel and in control?

PostHeaderIcon Jaguar is Working On a Technology To Counter Motion Sickness

Motion sickness is way more common than you can imagine. As per industry research, more than 70-percent of people suffer from motion sickness, and Jaguar Land-Rover believes it can counter this problem and reduce it by 60-percent. To do so, the automaker has come up with a technology that will come as standard on all of its future cars.

PostHeaderIcon Tesla Summon – Your Solution to Two Hour Parking Laws

You could argue that the original automobile was invented to get around the hassle of dealing with horses and all the difficulties associated with using a giant mammal to get from A to B. Sure, that’s a gross simplification, and there were certainly other factors at play, but convenience undoubtedly played a major role all the same. Now, with the advent of autonomous drive systems, our lives are about to get a whole lot easier, as evidenced by this Tesla owner’s novel use of the Summon feature.

PostHeaderIcon Opensky’s M-02J Jet-Powered Glider is the Coolest Thing You’ll See this Week!

There you are, soaring above the clouds, gazing down upon the Earth, the atmosphere rushing around you as you defy gravity. Then poof, you wake up, still ground-bound and in bed, and you realize you’re late for work. Damnit. Well, not to worry, because these days, personal flying machines are popping up all the time. Take this one, for example – the Opensky M-02J, a Japanese-made, jet-powered glider that might make your dreams come true.

Offering up accommodations for just a single individual, this glider is basically a pair of wings with a single center-mounted engine, which the pilot appears to mount in a prone position. The whole thing is over 30 feet wide and nearly seven feet long, and offers a top speed of 124 mph (although the recommended cruising speed is between 31 and 56 mph). Flight times vary, but average around 15 minutes. You might also wanna cut down on the cheeseburgers, as the maximum occupant weight is limited to 110 pounds. You’ll need to be pretty dextrous as well, as the aircraft is controlled by shifting your weight forward and aft to climb and dive respectively, left and right to bank.

Overall, we think this thing is pretty damn cool. As you might expect, it isn’t cheap either, as costs to produce this working prototype come to well over a quarter million dollars. Unfortunately, there are no plans in place to produce any more examples, but the fact this thing exists at all is pretty exciting, don’t ya think?

PostHeaderIcon What is Water/Methanol Injection and Why Do You Need It?

A few years ago, a huge hype entered the aftermarket automotive world: the introduction of affordable “water meth” kits. In the past few years, the hype seems to have died down… but I’m confused as to why?

I mean… yes, E85 hit the mainstream market there for a while, but as quickly as E85 fuel stations came they also went, and it became harder and harder to buy this great racing fuel substitute. On the other hand, water/methanol injection gives you some of the benefits of E85, along with several unique benefits. Plus, water meth mix is cheap and easy to acquire. The benefit to cost ratio is good and, for anything forced induction, it’s also a safety net.

Now when you hear the phrase “water meth” for the first time, your mind might wander to thoughts of people missing their teeth, wearing mismatched shoes and flannel shirts with no sleeves and wonder how that is going to enhance performance on your car? Well, other than getting your car poorly washed for a dollar there might be some confusion.

PostHeaderIcon Apple Wants to Link the Batteries of Self-Driving Electric Cars in the Name of Range and Efficiency

We’ve heard it a million times – fully autonomous all-electric cars are the way of the future. However, while there’s certainly no shortage of speculation in this space, the way we get to that future remains to be seen. Now, it looks like Apple might have a novel new method to enhance battery efficiency, a critical component to widespread EV adoption.

PostHeaderIcon Ford Expects Us to Trust its V-to-V Communication With Life and Death Decisions

Ford is working on a technology called Intersection Priority Management system which will analyze how intelligent speed reductions can avoid cars from having to stop at traffic signals or intersections.
This system will use Ford’s vehicle-to-vehicle technologies to relay the information between nearby cars.

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen Leads The Way With New LED Lighting Technology

It’s astonishing to see how something as simple as a headlight or a taillight can be experimented with as ‘intelligent illumination.’ This is exactly what Volkswagen has been working on. The automaker’s ambitious plan is to have headlights and taillights that provide more intelligent illumination and communicate with other cars on the road.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Says Human Drivers Will Always Have Option to Drive

Porsche has always been an enthusiast favorite for the simple fact that they’ve always delivered driver-centric cars.
And now, Porsche says it will never have Level 5 Autonomy in its cars. According to the automaker, when it comes to self-driving cars Porsche drivers want to hand off the driving when it’s tedious and take it back when it’s fun. We agree.

PostHeaderIcon Top 5 Tech Innovations Seen at the 2018 Paris Motor Show

There is plenty of new tech on display at the 2018 Paris motor show, as it is one more means for manufacturers to try to outdo one another. These motor shows are slowly turning into tech expos simply because of how many cool new gadgets are integrated into new cars – concepts go even more crazy, previewing the tech that will be available on the market in the near and not so near future.

This year’s edition of the venue was packed with electric and electrified vehicles, cool concepts, and plenty of cool tech demonstrations. Narrowing it down to the most impressive pieces of tech from Paris, we made this list of our top five picks:

PostHeaderIcon Tesla Model S Driver Rams Into A Nissan SUV Despite Autopilot’s Warning

This is the latest Autopilot crash; but it wasn’t the system’s fault. A couple, who was too busy engrossed in something else other than focusing on the road, rear-ended a Nissan SUV despite the system warning and chiming its brains out. How can one trust a machine blindly?

PostHeaderIcon BMW Confirms the i3 Will Continue to Survive

After all the mumbo jumbo surrounding the i3’s existence, the automaker has finally confirmed that the little electric hatchback will continue to live on. When the i4 was announced at the Paris Motor Show, it looked like a legit replacement for the i3; also because BMW did not address the i3. Now, however, BMW has confirmed that it has got future plans for the i3, according to The Drive.

PostHeaderIcon Holden Bathurst Time Attack Concept

Just when you thought nothing truly exciting could come out in 2018 with the Holden logo on the hood, here’s the Bathurst Time Attack Concept. It was developed as a futuristic race car to mark the 50th anniversary of the company’s first major win at Bathurst.

The R&D department at Holden, in Australia, set about proving that Holden isn’t just a badge GM slaps on the Buick Regal. So they came up with a groundbreaking concept that uses fans that direct airflow in order to improve downforce through each and every corner the car tackles. It’s low, wide, electric and it isn’t real. It’s similar to a Gran Turismo concept car without being one. But we wish they’d make it.

I mean, look at it. Check the tunnels that run on either side of the monocoque, the ginormous diffuser at the back, the rear wing, everything looking like it came from 2040. And it does, in a way, because all the tech that the AVD group crammed in it isn’t all here – yet.

PostHeaderIcon The Mercedes V-12 is Not Long for this World

Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that its V-12 engine is nearing its end, and the V-8s will be the taking over the duties. Mercedes-AMG boss, Tobias Moers, said that the V-12 engines will be retired once the production of the current S65 ends. The V-8s will be the new torch-bearers, thanks to electrification.

PostHeaderIcon New Climate Report Outlines Catastrophe Without Electrification

A new report issued on Monday by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns of a grim future that could materialize as early as 2040 if the world doesn’t cut its output of greenhouse gases massively.

An important element of this seemingly impossible turnover is the swift move towards complete electrification of our means of transport. The report, which was commisioned by the members of the Paris agreement, offers a much more dreary view on the near future of our planet and of our species unless we take action and drastically change our ways at a never-before-seen rate.

PostHeaderIcon Porsche Says It Can Cut Tesla’s Charge Times In Half

As the electric car market becomes bigger and more populated these days, Porsche is looking for a way to stand out from competition, and a big part of that approach is developing technologies that will allow it to claim the industry’s quickest charging times. The Porsche Taycan electric sports car — it’s Porsche’s first all-electric model ever — is expected to showcase that with the ability to charge 80 percent of its battery in just 15 minutes.

PostHeaderIcon Holden’s Bathurst Time Attack Concept Car is a 1-Megawatt Beast!

This new concept car is more than just a development for Holden. This year, Holden marks the 50th anniversary of its first victory at the Bathurst, and also its 70 years since it produced its first car. Dubbed the Time Attack Concept Racer, this car has 1,341 horses to power it. However, Holden has no plans to build it! Funny, right?

PostHeaderIcon Tesla Updates Autopilot with “Mad Max” Mode for Assertive Overtaking

Tesla keeps on improving its Autopilot system and the new version is now able to overtake other cars in traffic with the “Navigate with Autopilot” function. It features a “Mad Max” mode for more assured passes.

Tesla cars have been driving themselves around and about for quite a while now, but passing hasn’t been anywhere near second nature for the American EVs. To initiate an overtake when navigating with the Autopilot system turned on, you had to toggle the turn signals yourself. Now, with version 9 of the system being available, this is no longer the case.

PostHeaderIcon New Autonomous Vehicle Rules On the Way

Autonomous vehicles might be exempt in the future from some of the safety standards put in place by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) if changes that accommodate this new type of road vehicle sees the light of day.

Automotive giants such as GM have called for legislative changes that would allow “the full deployment of self-driving vehicles” which, at the moment, have to be equipped with a steering wheel, pedals, and mirrors, although autonomous cars don’t have a driver.

As such, The NHTSA “intends to reconsider the necessity and appropriateness of its current safety standards” as applied to automated vehicles, the U.S. Department of Transportation said in an 80-page update of its principles dubbed “Automated Vehicles 3.0.”

PostHeaderIcon Renault K-ZE

Renault is previewing its future mini electric crossover with the K-ZE concept revealed at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. Taking a closer look at the K-ZE, it becomes immediately apparent that it is, in fact, just a dressed up Kwid (which Renault already sells in emerging markets) which has had its internal combustion powertrain swapped out for a full-electric one.

The future electric crossover will look much closer to this concept, than it will to the current Kwid, although it will maintain its basic body shape. What will set it apart visually more significantly are the new, redesigned front and rear fascias, as well as various details around the exterior. It also promises to offer “class leading” range for a vehicle in its size-bracket.
