When winter descends and the professional racers of the Nascar and IndyCar series put away their cars for the off-season, amateur racers of the northern regions get ready for winter's gift: ice racing.

PostHeaderIcon Dodge CEO: "Fiat 500 will come to America by the end of the year"

American motorists that have been waiting for the Fiat 500 to come to American shores will have their wishes granted after Dodge CEO Ralph Giles announced that the hatchback will be available Stateside by the end of the year.

In a speech he delivered at the Economic Club of Chicago, Giles was bombarded with a wide-range of questions from a variety of subjects, one of which touched on whether the new Fiat-Chrysler partnership had plans of bringing the Fiat 500 to the U.S.

Despite Giles’ proclamation that the 500 will be making it’s a trip across the pond, Dodge has still to make an official announcement on the news, including the exact date of when the 500 will make its US debut. Keep it here and we’ll update you as soon as further developments become available.

PostHeaderIcon After 11-tear absence, BMW set to return to 24-Hours of Le Mans

Though there’s yet to be an official announcement regarding the matter, it looks like BMW is trading in their fancy F1 digs for a return to competition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The report, which was broken in by Bimmerfile, claims that the list of invited participants for the June 12-13 race have already been released and, lo and behold, BMW – or to be specific, BMW Motorsports – is one of the brands that will be competing at the race.

This, of course, comes as pretty big news, especially since the last time BMW entered a 24-Hour Le Mans was way back in 1999, a time when Americans still hadn’t subjected themselves to the satirical folly known simply as ‘Dubya’. It’s also worth noting that BMW’s exit at the Le Mans back then coincided with their entry into Formula One, and now, 11 years later, BMW Motorsports has indeed come full-circle.

As far as BMW’s official comeback tour for Le Mans is concerned, the team is scheduled to field two BMW M3s in the GT2 class, where it will be driven by accomplished – and sleep deprived – drivers like Jörg and Dirk Müller, Dirk Werner, Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus. Not exactly household names, eh?

BMW has yet to formally announce its return to the 24-Hours of Le Mans but then again, a little spoiler or two wouldn’t hurt.

PostHeaderIcon Bernie Ecclestone releases 2009 'F1 parody' Christmas cards

Christmas season brings about a lot of good in our lives. From presents to well-wishes, the holiday season is always a time that a lot of us look forward too. And if there’s one thing that we are all secretly excited about for this time of the year, it’s to have a chance to get a hold off Bernie Ecclestone’s Christmas cards.

Known for his wicked sense of humor, the big boss of Formula One has
finally released the 2009 edition of his annual personalized holiday cards. If you have no idea what we’re fussing about, Ecclestone has a habit of making a parody of any scandal that plagued Formula One in that particular season on his Christmas cards.

A few years ago – 2007, to be specific – Ecclestone’s Christmas cards featured an obviously anxious Ron Dennis receiving a present from ex- chief designer Mike Coughlan; an obvious lampoon of the 2007 Ferrari-McLaren spying scandal that cost McLaren all of their constructors’ points for that year.

Last year’s version of his holiday cards featured former FIA President Max Mosley ‘spanking’ all of the F1 bosses with a whip with Ecclestone himself standing in the back handing out sticking plasters. These cards were ‘inspired’ by ‘SpankGate’, the sex scandal Mosley found himself bitterly embroiled in last year.

Harley-Davidson Chinese trike

Although this is not a veritable Harley-Davidson trike, it does stand out as a lame attempt of virtually anything considered to be a mean of transportation. It looks very comfortable, but still too silly for our taste.

P.S. I would really like to see the guy riding this tent motorcycle.

PostHeaderIcon BMW S1000RR Carbon Edition takes Bavarian refinement standards one step further!

BMW S1000RR Carbon Edition

There’s nothing wrong with BMW wanting their S1000RR superbike to teach the Japanese liter bikes a lesson – and considering the Beemer’s 193hp and 403.5 lb dry weight, not to mention the $13,800 MSRP, the German giant has all the chances to do so – , but when we heard about the BMW S1000RR Carbon Edition, the first reactions sounded something like “this is just too good to be true” and, yes, we can’t take our eyes off this very exclusive motorcycle.

As the name suggests, the fairing is made of carbon fiber, but BMW options such as traction control, ABS and alarms are all standard on the special edition model. Also, the Akrapovic full exhaust system increases power with as much as 10hp while smoothening mid-range torque. Sounds great to us and with an MSRP of €24,990 ($35,685), the Carbon Edition can make a rider feel extremely proud of his new acquisition.

PostHeaderIcon Triumph Street Triple adapts to winter

Triumph Street Triple Trimotard

Now that winter has demanded its rights, Italian bloggers from Triumph che passione thought at a way for bikers to keep on frenetically rolling down the throttle of their Triumph Street Triple 675 motorcycles and the best idea came to life with the help of photoshop.

Called Triumph Street Triple Trimotard, this winter edition of the great British bike has a caterpillar track instead of a rear wheel and spikes on the front tire. They’ve also modified the bodywork to match the new theme and we must admit that we do like the idea of having such a bike, but can’t say how much we would be able to ride it considering the low temperatures it’s meant to operate in. If this bike will ever turn into reality, it will definitely have to have heated grips and seat because we would really like to bring it up to its winter top speed.

PostHeaderIcon Rumor: Derbi unveiled their all-new GPR Electric Motorcycle in Barcelona!

2010 Derbi GPR 125

We usually don’t like rumors, but when we heard that Derbi has most likely built an all electric race version of their GPR 125, we dug more into the subject and came to find that the so-called rumor is actually supported by a video posed on Youtube by Sevcon, a UK based manufacturer of electrical equipment. According to the source of the video, this is Derbi’s all-new electric bike which uses a controller supplied by Sevcon.

Seen in the mysterious video is the full bike called Derbi GPR EV being unveiled and tested at Parc Motor De Castelloli in Barcelona, Spain. To us, this looks like the latest open class TTXGP competitor, but there’s no official word about it yet, so we’re only left with seeing the bike in action until new information. The video is attached after the break.
