PostHeaderIcon 2019 VW Touareg Gets New V6 TDI Engine in the UK

The diesel-loving British market is being treated by Volkswagen to a new TDI offering on a popular SUV. It’s the 2019 VW Touareg receiving a new turbodiesel engine, a 231 PS V6 TDI engine, which is presumably for those who found the already existing 290 PS unit a tad too hot to handle.

The new 231 PS and 500 Nm of torque V6 TDi does, however, offer better fuel efficiency and lower CO2s, and starting at £48,995 the 2019 VW Touareg powered by it is considerably cheaper than the more powerful version. It can be ordered for all trim levels, including Touareg SEL, Touareg R-Line and Touareg R-Line Tech, and like all other UK-spec Touaregs it comes paired with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, 4MOTION four-wheel drive and a limited slip differential.

So at nearly 50 grand, the 2019 VW Touareg is by no means an affordable SUV. But it is one of the most well-appointed in terms of features and equipment. Even the base SEL trim gets such goodies as ‘Vienna Black’ leather and LED white interior lighting, aluminum trims, Discover Navigation Pro infotainment system with 9.2 inch screen, a three-year subscription to Car-Net ‘Guide and Inform’, 19-inch ‘Osorno’ alloy wheels and full LED headlights.

2019 Touareg UK Price List:

Model Engine Gearbox CO? g/km Price
Touareg SEL 3.0 V6 TDI 231 PS 8-sp auto 173 £ 48,995
Touareg SEL 3.0 V6 TDI 286 PS 8-sp auto 173 £ 51,595
Touareg R-Line 3.0 V6 TDI 231 PS 8-sp auto 173 £ 52,495
Touareg R-Line 3.0 V6 TDI 286 PS 8-sp auto 173 £ 55,095
Touareg R-Line Tech 3.0 V6 TDI 231 PS 8-sp auto 173 £ 55,595

PostHeaderIcon VW Arteon Stars in Fancy Schmancy Photo Shoot

There is no doubt that the Arteon is one of the best looking cars Volkswagen has made in a long time. Knowing this, and intending to make good use of it, they hired award-winning photographer and filmmaker Douglas Sonders to feature the car in a unique photo shoot.

Don’t let the fact that there are a lot of girls included in these photos fool you into thinking this is a cheap commercial photo shoot. Yes, Sonders does give sex a prominent spot in his work, but there is also some art in there if you look close. The goal here, apparently, has been to give the Arteon a cool techno vibe as it sits there acting as the backdrop for models Shelby Bay and Krislian Rodriguez. In doing so Sonders has drawn inspiration from 80s music and synth wave music in particular.

VW Arteon is not just a cool, urban design though. It also has a lot of substance, including a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engine, making 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, eight-speed automatic transmission, adaptive damping, and optional 4Motion all-wheel drive.

“It’s important to capture a car’s essence,” says Sonders. “I develop an emotional attachment to my cars, and they each have a personality in their designs. The Volkswagen Arteon has a beautiful modern edge, from the shoulder lines to the grille, and I wanted to do it justice.”

PostHeaderIcon 2019 Volkswagen T-Roc Gets a New Diesel Engine in the UK

In a bid to make the new T-Roc crossover more appealing to the UK buyers, Volkswagen announced the addition of a new turbodiesel engine for the car. The new 1.6 TDI complements the already available two petrol units and one 2.0 liter diesel, offering a more frugal and cost-effective alternative.

Let’s get right down to the numbers and see what this Volkswagen T-Roc turbodiesel can do performance-wise. It generates 115 PS and 250 Nm of torque, both respectable figures for a car of this type. In comparison, the 2.0 liter TDI available for 4MOTION four-wheel drive has 150 PS and 340 Nm of torque. But then the 1.6 unit has CO2 emissions as low as 115 g/km, so it’s really about compromises and what you want from your car.

Every 2019 VW T-Roc in the UK comes as standard with eight-inch colour touchscreen and Volkswagen’s Composition Media infotainment system, Front Assist with radar and emergency brake, LED daytime running lights, 2Zone electronic climate control and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors. The SE trim adds to that Adaptive Cruise Control, among other features, while SE-L brings satellite navigation and Car-Net ‘Guide and Inform’. There is even an R-Line trim which gets sporty highlights such as 19 inch wheels and sporty body components.

Prices for the 2019 Volkswagen T-Roc range with the new 1.6 liter TDI engine is as follows:

Model Gearbox Price – RRP OTR
T-Roc S 6-speed manual £21,290
T-Roc SE 6-speed manual £22,765
T-Roc Design 6-speed manual £23,465
T-Roc SEL 6-speed manual £25,085
T-Roc R-Line 6-speed manual £27,010

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Accessories for Summer

Just in time for the summer holidays in the UK, VW announced the launch of a range of useful accessories for their large Tiguan crossover. The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace accessories range covers a wide variety of outdoors activities relevant to this season, designed to make life easier and the vacation more enjoyable.

With an increased wheelbase and seven seats, the Allspace Tiguan is already a family-friendly car built for road trips and getaways. The accessories are built to allow customers to make the most of the SUV’s versatility. And they begin with the Roof Bars which connect standard-fit roof rails to create an adjustable platform that other Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace accessories will connect to.

The first item most people might consider is a roof box, because for long-distance traveling the large boot of the Allspace may not be enough. The box comes in various sizes from 300 to 500 liters if you for the adjustable one, or 360 or 360 liter fix units. Then there is the aerodynamically-designed bicycle holder featuring an anti-theft protection, lockable ski and snowboard holder, and the Compact III Bicycle Carrier for the more serious pedaling enthusiasts. These Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace accessories are complemented with a pair of cool and sturdy running boards that provide easy access to the roof.

As for the less holiday-focused and more day to day items in the list, we have the protective door sill trims with a black/silver finish, transparent rear bumper protector, and durable and non-slip rubber floor mats.

PostHeaderIcon 2019 VW T-Cross Teased, Slots Beneath T-Roc

Even though people these days are getting fatter and fatter, car makers insist on making smaller and smaller cars. So after the reasonably tiny T-Roc Volkswagen is now presenting the 2019 VW T-Cross, an urban crossover with an even smaller footprint.

This is the production version of the T-Cross concept from two years ago, being prepared for official launch towards the end of 2018. According to the German automaker, the 2019 VW T-Cross offers maximum flexibility, by which they mean it is about as practical as you can get with a car this size. Speaking of size, the T-Cross measures 4,107-mm long, but it is designed to that it can accomodate four adults comfortably.

And that, the design, is the best thing about the 2019 VW T-Cross. Judging by what we can see in this preview, the crossover is tall, muscular, and imposing, what with those flared arches and sculpted sills. We also get a glimpse of the lights, and although they have the typical VW design, you have to admit they do look quite classy and refined. So all in all, the T-Cross seems to have it on the lock as far as appearances are concerned.

As for the powertrains and other technical stuff, the only official tidbits include modular transverse matrix (MQB), and standard  “Front Assist” (ambient traffic monitoring system) and “Lane Assist” (lane departure warning system). To know more, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer.

PostHeaderIcon It’s Done it! VW I.D. R Sets New Pikes Peak Record

It tool a lot of effort and God knows how much money, but they’ve done it. Volkswagen has broken the record for the Pikes Peak international hill climb with the fully-electric VW I.D. R, setting an astonishing time of 7m 57.148s minutes which is a full 16 seconds faster than the previous record.

And that is the overall records we’re talking about, not just the time for electric cars. The 500 kW (680 PS) VW I.D. R is now the king of Pikes Peak in every category, and it will probably remain so for the foreseeable future. After all, it took five years for the previous record, set by Sebastian Loeb in 2013, to be bested. But then again, that was the age internal combustion. In the electric age things move at a much faster pace. So yeah, let’s not make any predictions.

The VW I.D. R Pikes Peak record also turned its driver, the French man Romain Dumas, into a legend. His name is now forever mentioned in the same breath as the giants such as Sebastian Loeb, Walter Röhrl (D), Michèle Mouton (F), Stig Blomqvist (S), Nobuhiro Tajima (J) and also Rod Millen and his son Rhys (both NZ). It was, in short, the perfect game.

“The I.D. R Pikes Peak is the sporty forerunner of Volkswagen’s I.D. family. Today, we saw what this technology is capable of,” said Dr. Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand with responsibility for “Technical Development”. “Every Volkswagen employee can be extremely proud of today’s result. I congratulate the team from the bottom of my heart. With a combination of outstanding engineering skills, passion and commitment, the team has managed to create a fantastic racing car in just eight months. The Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak has now set the fastest time in the history of this hill climb, which spans more than 100 years – that speaks volumes for electric mobility.”

PostHeaderIcon VW I.D. R Pikes Peak Sets Fastest Qualifying Time

This year’s Pikes Peak race to the clouds will be headed by the VW I.D. R Pikes Peak electric race car. The I.D. earned this honor by setting the fastest time during the qualifying session in which Romain Dumas climbed the first 8 kilometer section of the course in 3:16.083.

That was more than 11 seconds faster than the second fastest time, which will kind of make the race itself pointless, and VW I.D. R’s win a forgone conclusion. After all, it had a huge gap in qualifying over the second quickest car. Mind you, Pikes Peak is a hill climb and qualifying times are only used to determine the starting order for the race. They are not really important. The race could still hold surprises.

On Sunday 24 June VW will pursue its goal of setting a new record for the famous Pikes Peak course in Colorado-an occasion that will not only be a great achievement for VW and their driver, but for electric cars everywhere.

“That was a very good day for us,” said Dumas. “The I.D. R Pikes Peak is incredible. I have never experienced acceleration and power like that in a racing car. I am noticing how the car and I are becoming more and more of a unit with every kilometer,” said the Frenchman.

Sven Smeets, Volkswagen Motorsport Director, was also happy with the way qualifying panned out: “A big compliment to the entire team. We completed an important test yesterday, the findings from which have helped us to further optimize the set-up of the I.D. R Pikes Peak. The result is that the car was superbly prepared today, and the time speaks for itself. However, that was only qualifying. We are optimistic about the race, but must always bear in mind that we only have one single attempt.”

PostHeaderIcon Golf GTI TCR Concept Unveiled, Packs 290 PS

Volkswagen released today the first official shots of the hotly anticipated Golf GTI TCR Concept. Set for debut at this year’s Worthersee event, the near-production concept previews an upcoming road-going version of the Golf TCR race car.

So this is the car for those who are not satisfied with the performance of the standard GTI, but find the R versions a bit much. The Golf GTI TCR Concept hits a real sweet spot in terms of design and power output, featuring a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with 290 PS/286 horsepower and peak torque of 273 pound-feet. THe power stillgoes to the front wheels via a standard 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

In terms of speed, VW says Golf GTI TCR Concept can hit 164 mph flat out, even though they have limited it to 155. Fans will be happy to know that this potentially expensive Golf is also sufficiently cooler to look at than the regular GTI, thanks mainly to 18-inch “Belvedere” forged aluminum rims wiht 19 inchers available, perforated brake discs, revised front bumper with a splitter, new side skirt extension, unique rear diffuser and tailpipes, and TCR lettering as well as GTI-style honeycomb trim.

Inside the cabin the main highlights include sports seats with microfiber and fabric upholstery, contrast stitching on the steering wheel and shifter, and TCR logo projector inside the doors. There is also an optional performance package for this car which includes a sports chassis setting and DCC adaptive damping as well as 19 inch wheels as standard.

PostHeaderIcon Road-Going Golf GTI TCR Set for Wörthersee Debut

It is now one of the auto world’s most well-established traditions that VW has to unveil a cool concept Golf at the annual Wörthersee event. The thousands of VW fans that descend on the place expect to see something amazing, and this year it takes the form of a road version of the Golf GTI TCR touring car.

Volkswagen is adamant that Wörthersee-bound Golf GTI TCR is a prototype, but they also call it the “new top model” on a couple of occasions. So chances are we will soon see a production version of this bad boy, maybe as a limited edition model. The specs, juicy though they are, certainly fit the bill for a production car. The TCR has a TSI turbo engine with 190 PS and 370 Nm of torque, a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) and a front axle differential lock.

That setup makes the Golf GTI TCR the fastest Golf ever. The top speed is restricted to 250 km/h, but if you have the limiter removed the hot hatch is capable of clocking 264 km/h. Visually, the car is pretty GTI-ish, save for flared arches, a subtle aero kit, TCR graphics on the sills, special wheels, and dual exhaust integrated into the rear diffuser. Again, all the features are virtually production-ready.

With more than 2.2 million units sold, the Golf GTI has become one of the world’s most successful compact sports cars. It all started life in 1976 as a 110 PS front-wheel drive car, which made high driving dynamics affordable. Originally, only 5,000 cars of the original GTI were to be built – 4,400 times as many have now been produced.

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak Racer Officially Unveiled

VW today took the wraps off their awesome new race car designed for 2018 Pikes Peak hill climb. The Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak is an all-electric, high-performance machine with high hopes to smash the course’s 8:57.118 minutes record for electric cars.

Weighing less than 2,500 lbs and boasting 680 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak has performance numbers to match its spaceship-like appearance. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 2.25 seconds. And because it doesn’t have an internal combustion engine there altitude, which is as high as 4,720 feet at Pike Peak, will have no negative effect on its oomph.

We had seen sketches of Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak before, but in the metal the car looks even more amazing. As VW says, the aim in designing the I.D. R was not maximum performance, but rather the perfect balance between energy capacity and weight. The technologies used in this racing car, such as the battery pack, energy storage, and regenerative brakes, will be utilized in VW’s production cars in the near future.

The I.D. R will take part in the Race to the Clouds on June 24 with world-class driver and defending Pikes Peak champion Romain Dumas at the wheel.

“Volkswagen’s goal is to reach the pinnacle of electromobility with the I.D. family,” said Dr. Frank Welsch, Volkswagen Member of the Board of Management with responsibility for Development. “The hill climb on Pikes Peak will definitely be a real acid test for the electric drive. Customers have always benefitted from the findings made in motorsport, and we expect to take these findings and use them as a valuable impetus for the development of future I.D. models.”

PostHeaderIcon 2019 VW T-Roc R-Line & Tiguan R-Line – UK Pricing and Spec

Good news for those looking for a unique and sporty crossover this year. VW just announced the launch of R-Line editions of their popular crossovers featuring enhanced styling and extra equipment. The new VW T-Roc R-Line and Tiguan Allspace R-Line will arrive in June and May respectively, priced from £26,450 and £35,755… respectively.

The 2019 VW T-Roc R-Line is the one we are partial to, what with it being the newer product and the overall sportier proposition. The R-Line treatment gives the five-seater crossover an athletic look, complementing its practicality and user-friendly features. Available trims include 150 PS 1.5 TSI EVO with 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG, and 2.0 TSI 190 PS 4MOTION with the same transmission choices.

As for what the treatment brings to table for T-Roc R-Line, the main highlights of design include 19-inch ‘Suzuka’ alloy wheels shod with low rolling resistance tyres; sports suspension; body-coloured roof spoiler and styling pack including R-Line design front and rear bumpers, black wheel arch extensions, body-coloured side skirts and unique R-Line badging. Inside, you get  black roof lining; dark grey decorative inserts in dash and door panels; front footwell illumination; front LED reading lights; Carbon Flag upholstery; chrome R-Line door sill inserts; aluminium pedals; R-Line carpet mats front and rear and a flat-bottomed R-Line leather multi-function steering wheel.

The 2019 VW Tiguan Allspace R-Line is the bigger options here, but it is no less sporty. The list features on this one includes 20-inch ‘Suzuka’ alloy wheels, a body-coloured roof spoiler; Piano Black front air intake and rear diffuser and extensive R-Line styling pack. Inside the cabin you will find aluminium-look decorative inserts in dash and door panels; a black roof lining; leather trimmed three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with aluminium inserts and ‘R-Line’ logo; ‘Race’ cloth upholstery and ‘San Remo’ microfibre inserts; ‘R-Line’ logo on front seat backrests; stainless steel pedals and unique ‘R-Line’ door sill protectors.

The only engine choice for the Tiguan is a 2.0 TDI but it comes in 150 and 190 PS variants. You can also choose if you want 4MOTION all-wheel-drive, manual or DSG transmission.

PostHeaderIcon 2019 Volkswagen Touareg Goes Official

After an elaborate teaser campaign in which a prototype of the car traveled 16,000 kilometers to its own debut in Beijing, the 2019 Volkswagen Touareg SUV finally went official earlier today. They unveiled the car in China because it is now, along with Russia, the biggest market not just for the Touareg, but VW in general.

2019 Volkswagen Touareg has been designed and developed with “focus on people,” mainly those inside the cabin. The exterior design is fairly underwhelming, but the interior is kind of cool with its Innovision design concept, featuring Digital Cockpit with 12-inch display and Discover Premium infotainment system with 15-inch display. It’s like driving a spaceship. It may look too screen-y for those used to more traditional cabins, but it is very much of its time.

The new Touareg is also said to be the most refined Volkswagen ever, with the most comprehensive package of assistance, comfort and handling ever integrated into a car. The features range from Night Vision and Roadwork Lane Assist, to Front Cross Traffic Assist, active all-wheel steering, roll stabilisation with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars, ‘IQ.Light – LED matrix headlights’ (interactive, camera-based dipped and main beam headlight control) and a ‘Windshield Head-up Display’.

2019 Volkswagen Touareg is also wider and longer than the previous generation, but it’s lighter as well. The increased size means greater practicality, with luggage capacity boosted to 810 litres (with rear bench seat up). Engine-wise, the SUV launches with two V6 turbodiesels offering 230 PS and 286 PS, to be followed by a V6 petrol engine developing 340 PS and a potent V8 diesel developing 420 PS. There is also a plug-in hybrid drive version with 370 PS which will initially launch in China and probably later on in Europe as well.

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak Confirmed for the Big Race

VW today named and revealed the first pictures of its contender for the 2018 Pikes Peak hill climb event. The alien spaceship-looking Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak is, as that I.D. in its name suggests, an electric prototype racing car, and it’s built to make some hype for VW’s I.D. family of all-electric vehicles which arrive in 2020.

That is, of course, if it finishes the race to the clouds with dignity. It doesn’t have to win it, but in order for people to take notice of VW’s new rage of electric cars, the Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak has to be at least in the top three when it crosses the line. The car certainly looks the part, it’s four-wheel-drive, and it certainly has a superb powertrain, the specs of which are yet to be revealed. But how well it can handle the 12.4-mile route up the  Colorado Springs in the Rocky Mountains remains to be seen.

Jürgen Stackmann, Member of the Board of Management with responsibility for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, adds: “Pikes Peak is without question the most iconic hillclimb in the world. The I.D. R project represents a fantastic opportunity for Volkswagen to change the conversation about e-mobility, both emotionally and from a sporting perspective.”

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet SUV Confirmed, Coming 2020

So far only the plucky Brits at Jaguar Land Rover have had the stones to make an open-top SUV in form of the Evoque Convertible, and even they are not fully happy with what they have done. Still, Volkswagen looked at that car and decided they want some of that action and green lighted the rumored T-Roc Cabriolet, the brand’s first and the world’s second mass-produced topless SUV.

The thing is though, the upcoming Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet, which is set for 2020 debut, could prove a lot more popular than the Evoque for the simple reason that it’s going to be a lot less expensive. They are, in part, egged on by the success of the Tiguan, their other compact SUV, of which they have so far sold 720,000 units. What is more, the standard T-Roc received a warm enough welcome from press and public alike to convince VW’s top brass the cabrio version is a good idea. That car has already bagged more than 40,000 orders.

Though it is not hard to imagine what the 2020 Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet SUV will look like, the internet has a bunch of good renderings to keep you amused until it’s revealed. The official rendering they have released previews a nice and round looking car. But that’s with the soft top up. As we know from other open-top SUVs, the real peril with cars like this is how they look with the roof down. We shall soon find out. VW has already rolled €80 million in the Osnabrück plant to make it ready for the new model.

Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, says: “Volkswagen is evolving into an SUV brand. The T-Roc is already setting new standards in the compact SUV segment. With the cabriolet based on the T-Roc, we will be adding a highly emotional model to the range. I am especially pleased to note that we can count on the Osnabrück team’s decades of experience with convertibles. The Osnabrück plant now has bright prospects for the future.”

PostHeaderIcon Volkswagen I.D. VIZZION Concept Headed for Geneva Debut

Continuing the line of I.D. concepts which represent VW’s vision for future family cars, they have revealed the Volkswagen I.D. VIZZION. This concept is the I.D. car for this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and it’s a tad more advanced than the previous models in that it lacks a steering wheel or visible controls.

With the VIZZION, then, VW is trying to explore the interior design of future autonomous vehicles. The stated goal for the Volkswagen I.D. VIZZION, mind you, is more ambitious: “making the automobile cleaner, safer and much more convenient and comfortable.” The sedan has a digital ecosystem, adaptable to each passenger who will be controlling the services it offers via voice and gesture control.

In short then, the Volkswagen I.D. VIZZION is more of a technological showcase than something that previews the design direction VW is taking with their future family cars. Speaking of technology, the concept boasts an advanced two-motor, four-wheel-drive electric drivetrain with an output of 225 kW, a top speed of 185 km/h, and thanks to 111 kWh lithium-ion batteries a range of 665 kilometres when braking regeneration is factored in. We will be seeing production versions of this system in upcoming VW models.

The new I.D. VIZZION concept car is the fourth member of the Volkswagen I.D. Family. With its innovative technology, fully-automated operating concept and elegant form, the premium class saloon is showing the direction Volkswagen is taking in the technology and design of its future electric models.

PostHeaderIcon 2019 Volkswagen Touareg to Debut in March

VW has been pretty busy stepping up their crossover game this past couple of years, to the extent that one would think they have forgotten about the full-size SUV segment. But turns out they’ve been cooking something good, and it will be unveiled next month in Beijing in form of the new 2019 Volkswagen Touareg.

A well-loved name among upper-class SUVs, the Touareg will feature in its latest version an expressive design, dynamic handling, and innovative technologies. At least that is what VW is promising, and as you know it is not always easy believing these guys. But hey, the first sketch they have released of the 2019 Volkswagen Touareg does show something quite lean and mean. This model is designed mainly to appeal to the fast-growing Chinese market, and it seems to have all it needs to accomplish that goal.

In terms of technology, the 2019 Volkswagen Touareg will feature one of the largest digital cockpits in its class, the Innovision Cockpit with amazing infotainment and connectivity capabilities. It also gets sophisticated drivetrain, air suspension, rear-wheel steering and roll stabilisation. So to drive the Touareg could well be a head and shoulders above its premium rivals. That said, it remains to be seen if this big SUV has anything interesting to say about offroading. This car has a history in rallying, so chances are it is not going to disappoint.

PostHeaderIcon 2018 VW Up! GTI Priced from £13,750 in the UK

The highly anticipated 2018 VW Up! GTI is now available to order in the UK, all set to take the hot hatch market by storm. Granted, it is a supermini and not a hatchback. But the Up! GTI is so good at what it does, and at £13,750 it is so well-priced, it renders all those expensive, over-powered hot hatches out there silly.

I mean, if space is not really an issue for you, 2018 VW Up! GTI is a much better proposition than its own big brother, Golf GTI. And we know full well that the Golf is the king of all hot hatches. With the Up! GTI it is not about how much power you have. It’s the whole package. Yes, it only has a 999cc turbo engine with 115 PS and 200 Nm of torque. But on the upside it does 58.9 mpg and emits no more than to 110 g/km of CO2. And as for performance, 0 to 62 mph is dealt with in 8.8 seconds with a top speed of 122 mph.

2018 VW Up! GTI is all about the joy of driving, and a big part of that is the price. Yes, it is kind of expensive for a supermini, but it’s a bargain for what it offers. And because it is cheap, you can beat on it every day, drive it fast and hard, and not worry about breaking the bank. It is not in vain that Volkswagen compares this car to the original Golf GTI MkI. It really is that good. It even features the same sort of exterior details and accenting, but we have to say the looks are not that savory.

The hotted-up Up! is also an excellent runabout, boasting such features as Volkswagen’s Composition Colour radio system with five-inch colour screen, 4x20W output via six loudspeakers, Bluetooth telephone and audio connection, a USB interface, air conditioning, heated seats, electrically adjustable and heated wing mirrors, and front fog lights with static cornering lights, all standard fit.
