At 21 years old, most of us would be ecstatic to have one working car to drive around to school, on dates, and maybe even a few out-of-town trips.
For engineering student Dhiaa Al-Essa, one car just doesn’t quite cut it. Actually, 10 cars still seems a little on the ‘little’ side. No, this 21-year old son of a Saudi business tycoon already has 30 – yep, 30! – cars in his garage. And the best part is, all of his cars aren’t what you’d call ‘everyday-driving’ vehicles. Apparently, that’s not how he rolls. His list of vehicles include five Porsches, four Ferraris, three Lamborghinis, two Rolls Royces, and a Mercedes SLR McLaren.
On top of that, he’s got two more exotics headed his way – a Bugatti Veyron and a Koenigsegg Agera – and if you remember that Ferrari 458 Italia that burned down at Heathrow Airport in London a few weeks ago, that’s his too. That wasted 458 isn’t all that big of a deal for this guy because he’s already in the process of scooping up a 599 Roadster – production number 70 out of 70, in fact.

BMW 1-Series M Coupe rendered

After a first “unveiling” video of the BMW 1-Series M Coupe, the guys from Bimmerfile have rendered the future car, and we have to admit it looks quite impressive. In fact the rendering only puts together parts from the recently launched video.
The 1-series M will probably follow along the engine lines of the 135i producing 306hp. It will feature a central duct, brake air ducts, an additional two ducts on the bonnet, two air intakes on the front wings for a typical M look, and the bar that incorporates the side indicator light. It will also have widened fenders, integrated duckbill trunk spoiler, upgraded M wheels, and large brakes with cross-drilled rotors. And how about a a carbon fiber roof ? Is this too much for an entry-level M car? We think not!

Whatever the type of car you build, whether its for mass production or for motor racing purposes, one thing holds true: building one takes some serious work from a dedicated group of people.
In addition to the laborious manual work involved in building a car, it also takes time. You can’t just throw all the parts together and hope that the car magically runs after that. It doesn’t work that way. Fortunately, through the magic of time-lapse technology, you can actually see the entire build from the ground up in just a matter of minutes.
The folks over at WestCoastRacing took to task in building a BMW Z4 GT3 from its humble beginnings as a body shell into a 500 horsepower beast. Using parts that were received from BMW Motorsport, WestCoastRacing took up the task of working on the car, spending 600 hours of work to piece together the entire sports car. The end product, as you can see, is a fine piece of machinery that presumably weights less than 1,200 kilos and uses a 4.4-liter engine that produces over 500 ponies.
And thanks to time-lapse technology, we can watch the entire manual production build in just over three minutes.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Axiom by RENM

After the R8 Enigma and the RM580, RENM is also revealing a tuning package for the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. The tuner is offering two levels of customizations. The first level includes an ECU re-calibration and sports air-filters and takes the V12 engine’s output to a total of 665 HP (up from a standard of 580 HP).
And if this power does not satisfy you, RENM is also offering a complete back-pressure controlled exhaust system, revised sports camshafts, cylinder head conditioning and ECU re-calibration. The results is an impressive 715 HP.
RENM revealed no details on how this upgrades improve the supercar’s performances, but we expect to see a considerable increase of the 211 mph top speed.
Next to the engine upgrade, the Axiom tuning programme also includes 19 inch carbon/forged three piece wheel design that includes forged aluminum outer shells with titanium reverse fasteners and carbon-fibre cross sections. Other wheels dimensions are available ranging between 19 and 22 inch.

Audi A5 Cabrio by Senner Tuning

After the Audi S5, Senner Tuning is also preparing a tuning kit for the A5 Cabrio. The package is improving both the engine’s output, but is also offering a more sportier appearance for the cabriolet. The price for the kit is 19.900 Euro ($25,000 at the current exchange rates).
The tuning package includes an audibly superior exhaust system with a stainless steel finishing with four end pipes, a carbon hydride screw thread with adjustable settings, 20″ SC1 light metalrims in silver chrome, a new spoiler in the RS6 Design, a cooler grill, exterior mirrors in the RS5 Design and a rear valance with sporty diffuser fins. The interior gets surfaces made from leather and extensive carbon fibre applications.
As for the 2.0 T-FSI engine, the tuner is offering sports air filters and software optimization that increases the output to 275 HP and 430 Nm of torque.

Bookmakers release odds on who the next Stig will be

If you needed any more proof that our world has become fixated on gambling, look no further than what the odds are on who the next Stig will be.
That’s right, folks. You can make a wager on who’s going to be the next one to don the helmet and racing suit for Top Gear. And if you’re right, you can make some moolah out of it, too.
To our surprise – not that we’re against it, although we think Clarkson might have a bone to pick with this one – odds are picking up that the next Stig will be female.
According to The Sun, bookmakers have installed 4:1 odds on a woman taking over the role of Top Gear’s mysterious test driver. What’s more surprising is that this line is now favored over the odd of notable former F1 drivers David Coulthard and Damon Hill. On top of that, there are also odds on what color of the suit the new Stig will be donning in his/her new gig. And just so you know, pink is right up there with 5:1 odds.

Lamborghini’s new Murcielago- first teaser revealed

As you know Lamborghini will unveil the Murcielago’s replacement at the Paris Auto Show at the end of the month. But today the Italian company revealed the first teaser of the future supercar and the next statement: “Lamborghini. Sound and light. Paris 2010. Discover the way to the future of supersports cars.” Not much of course, but just enough to make us wishing the show starts earlier.
Rumored to be called Jota, the future supercar will be shorter and weigh about 300lbs. less than the Murcielago. It will be built on a new carbon-fiber tub and will use as much aluminum and carbon fiber as possible to reduce weight. The Jota will hit a top speed of 230mph and will sit on new 21″ wheels over upgraded Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. It will also come with Audi’s torque vectoring technology which offers even better handling.

A perfect recipe: take an amazing sports car, lets say a Mercedes SLS AMG; an experienced driver, Ed Redfern -Mercedes-Benz senior stunt driver- is the perfect one and a wet circle track. Once you have all this start drifting! Of course you will have a lot of work to do until you’ll be able to drift at the same level Ed does, but good luck!
The SLS AMG will be powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine located front-mid that will develop 571 hp and up to 650 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission
, and will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, while top speed will go up to 197 mph. The SLS AMG will go on sale on the US market at a price of $183,000.

1:8 scale replica of Ferrari 458 Italia costs $5,000

The Ferrari 458 Italia would have been Ferrari’s next great supercar if not for a problem that has forced the company to recall the vehicle. But despite the problems that the 458 comes in, it hasn’t stopped Amalgam Fine Model Cars from releasing a 1:8 scale replica of the supercar.
The scale model, which was built with the input of no less than seven-time F1 world champion, Michael Schumacher, is an intricate rendition of the real-life supercar – minus the adhesive problems, we hope – down to the car’s supremely detailed interior and overall look.
The models are available in three colors – red, yellow, and black – and according to Amalgam, can be personalized to a customer’s individual specifications. So, if you don’t have the money to purchase the real deal – not that you should given the cars are currently being recalled – you can scoop up this scale model that comes with a staggering price tag of $5,000.

SSC Ultimate Aero II – first details revealed

When Bugatti unveiled the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Shelby Supercars announced it will not enjoy the title of the fastest car in the world for a very long time as the American company has plans to bring a new generation Ultimate Aero. Compared to the current Aero, the future model will come with a more aggressive design and a sportier look.
There are no official details yet on the car’s specifications, but as it is expected to brake the current 267 mph record, it will be lighter and more powerful than the car it replaces. The current SSC Ultimate Aero is powered by a mid-engined, twin-turbo 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 1183 HP and is capable of hitting a top speed of 256 mph. So, we expect the new supercar to deliver somewhere between 1,300 and 1,400 HP.

Mastretta to present the MXT at the Paris Motor Show

Mexico may not be the first place you associate supercar manufacturers with, but manufacturer is hoping to change all that as it officially announced that it will bring the MXT supercar at the Paris Motor Show at the end of the month.
If you’re not familiar with Mastretta and the MXT, then you’re not alone. The manufacturer has been out of the loop for quite some time now ever since it first revealed the MXT to the public back in 2007. There were reports that the car was headed to dealerships last year, but for some reason, those plans were scuttled at the last minute. A year later, the car is now poised to make its return to the spotlight later this month and for all we’ve known about the supercar in the past, we’re not sure what the MXT looks like now or how many is going to be built, or even how much one car will be worth.
Fortunately for all of us, all our questions should be answered by the Mexican auto manufacturer on September 30 at the Paris Motor Show, at which point we’re going to have a clearer idea of what kind of supercar the MXT is and how much it’s going to burn holes in our pockets for a chance to drive home in one.

Bentley Continental GT gets toasted in Russia

We’ve just about had enough of burning supercars recently with all those burning Ferrari 458 Italias having traumatized us already. But unfortunately, the reality of it all is that we’re still going to see them whether we like it or not with this Bentley Continental GT serving proof that exotics aren’t exempt from freak accidents like this.
In this particular case, the burning Continental GT, which happened in Irkutsk, Eastern Siberia, may have come as a result of a pre-meditated attack and not some sort of accident. Details are sketchy, but from what we’ve heard, it looks like arson may have been the cause with two probably scenarios: either somebody didn’t want the car anymore – and decided to burn it – or people got upset at the owner for parking the car in three separate parking spots.
Whatever the case may be, it doesn’t take away the grim reality that another exotic – a beautiful one at that – has now been toasted to a crisp, and hundreds of thousands of dollars have burned with it.

Video: BMW X5 falls on its head after unsuccessful barrel-roll stunt

We’re curious to know if at any point before the driver of this BMW X5 decided to turn his SUV into a Dukes of Hazzard stunt car did he honestly think that he could successfully complete an airborne barrel roll without doing his car – and himself – any harm.
We’re wondering that because we can’t, for the life of us, comprehend how he could honestly think of pulling it off given the girth of the SUV he was driving. Then again, crazy nut jobs do crazy things and this guy certainly qualifies for somebody who’s got a few loose bolts in his head that certainly need a lot of tightening.
That being said, we still enjoyed watching the video – we do hope the driver didn’t suffer any injuries – only because idiotic stunts like this remind us that performing stunts with your own car usually doesn’t end well for all parties involved.

Mercedes works on new B-class coupe, crossover, and sedan

“Everyone wants to be Mercedes-Benz,” said Ernst Lieb, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. Either Mercedes is getting a little cocky or they are just that confident about their plans for the future. They have already announced plans to build a new generation B-Class for the 2012 model year and now they have confirmed that not only will the hatchback version come to the U.S. market, but so will a coupe, a crossover, and a sedan version. These will be the first FWD models Mercedes will sell on the US market.
The next B-class will also be seeing some changes under the hood. Mercedes has taken advantage of the Renault-Nissan partnership and has had them develop new three- and four-cylinder engines with turbos and gasoline direct injection. The four-cylinder engines will be the first to see U.S. soil in a Mercedes product since no other four-cylinder Mercedes has been offered in the States.
In a previous interview, Dr. Joachim Schmidt, head of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz, commented on the upcoming A- and B-Class models, noting that, “In the next couple of years, we will launch additional cars where we don’t currently have predecessors. Our current A-Class and B-Class will be replaced by a new platform for four totally different cars defining new segments for Mercedes.” He added, “If you want young customers, you need to have a brand that is sexy and sporty. The reason we didn’t get this customer before was, in my opinion, not a brand issue, but a product issue.” We can only guess that they are just that confident in their future products.

Promoting the Ford Fiesta, Film Riot style

We haven’t come across anything this hilariously weird in quite some time, and for that, we have to give props to Film Riot.
As the folks behind some wildly entertaining online videos, Film Riot took it upon themselves to promote the new Ford Fiesta in a three-minute commercial that can best be described as ‘different’. Different in a good way or bad way? Well, that’s up to you to decide. But it is funny, in a funky kind of way. They did find success in belting out the Fiesta’s features in a catchy rhyme so we have to give them credit for that.
In any case, it is interesting to point out that Ford is actually a sponsor of Film Riot so it wouldn’t surprise us if the Blue Oval had something to do with this commercial on top of its own campaign to promote their quirky new hatch.
Hey, anything to get some mileage on the news, right? And if that was their rationale, well, consider the battle won. And if you can get away with calling the new Fiesta “so pimping and so sexy”, then that’s an added plus.

Fiat 500 Arancia Special Edition

We’ve lost count on how many special edition models Fiat has of the 500 mini hatchback, although it’s not really a question of having one too many. Besides, it’s their car, and if they think that it’s a good idea to churn out limited edition upon limited edition of the same model, then more power to them.
The latest one that’s going to be released is being called the 500 Arancia and, similar to other special edition 500 models in the past, it’s going to be limited to just 300 units. And as for the Arancia, the car will have an exclusive home in the land of Toyota and Honda, Japan. It’s fitting too because the model takes its name from the Japanese translation of ‘orange’, which, in case you haven’t noticed, is the color of the car.
As far as what you can expect from the 500 Arancia, well, it comes with a chrome package and 15-inch allow wheels on top of the orange paint finish and the customized orange and white interior. Apart from that, the only thing that makes this car ‘limited’ in the sense of the word is that it’s only going to Japan and only 300 buyers will have a chance to own one.

Video: Mercedes SLS AMG "Triumph" commercial

We have to admit; this is one of the coolest commercials we’ve seen in quite a while. Of course, when it comes to car commercials, no brand comes out with better pieces than Mercedes-Benz.
“It’s the universal gesture, a way of telling the world you ‘did it’ without saying a word,” the narrator of this commercial says. And to prove his point, we’re treated to clips of people – some famous, some not so – raising their arms in a sign of victory and triumph. Yep, there’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, Michelle Kwan, and Roger Federer raising their arms in sheer joy.
Then, the video cuts to the Mercedes SLS AMG opening its gullwing doors. You don’t need to be Einstein to figure out what the symbolism behind that is.

Video: Porsche Boxster vs Ford Focus RS

On the surface, this comparison seems like it wasn’t thought out all the way through. For starters, the two cars belong to two different markets. One is a German marquee brand recognized as one of the most sought-after automakers in the world while the other is an American original that’s more of the everyday brand.
But for the purposes of comparison, here we are. Auto Express took it upon themselves to undergo a comparison test between a Porsche Boxster and a Ford Focus RS. In fairness to these guys, the whole point of the comparison test wasn’t focused so much on the car’s engine performance and styling points, but more so on which car should get you the most bang for your buck. Over in the UK, both cars come out with pretty similar price tags so, as far as Auto Express is concerned, choosing between the two boils down to preference. By numbers alone, if you’re looking for a car with more ponies in it, then the Focus RS is the way to go. But if you’re more interested in which car is lighter, then the Boxster is the one for you.

Security guard hoons a Corvette ZR1 without permission then posts the clip on You Tube for the world to see

Not that we condone swagger-jacking a car even for recreational purposes – we really, really, really don’t – but if you’re going to do it, you might as well do a good job of keeping your face seen by a camera. Better yet, cover your tracks and leave the camera at home.
Apparently, this man doesn’t have that thing we call ‘smarts’ in his little head. Working as a security guard at the Dallas Auto Auction in Dallas, Texas, the now former employee of the dealership decided that it would be a good and fun idea to boost a Corvette ZR1 – one that costs around $111,000 – and take it out for a nice little hooning under the warm Texas sun.
But as it turns out, this security guard, for whatever reason other than it was completely and amazingly stupid, decided to videotape the whole ordeal, complete with footage of himself getting out of the jacked ZR1 with his arms raised like Rocky before doing some pistol-preening in front of the camera. And to add insult to his stupidity, he went ahead and posted the video clip on You Tube where his employers quickly got a hold of the video, fired the employee, and are now on the verge of pressing charges against the security guard.
Once again, way to go to, Mr. Security Guard! You managed to get yourself fired and get arrested for your idiocy.
